I actually teared up a bit when they started cheering for Andy. He’s such an important part of why the show works and it’s so sweet to see him get the appreciation he deserves
Why? I mean, I like Andy but he made some terrible decisions. He left the sidekick roll twice to make it as a movie star with flopped hard. Have you seen Cabin boy and the other movies he made :) Anyways, Conan was kind enough to take him back twice...I don't see how Andy should get more than minimal recognition for his work.
I have been sad seeing this clips. For someone who never got a chance to see conan live or on tv as I don't live in a country that telecasts the show, it has been fun seeing and in a way exploring the world of Conan since the last few years on youtube. Andy and Conan and the entire team has been the greatest show I have come across. My only wish was to fly to LA just to see it live once. Hopefully I can one day
I saw conan live once in nyc, for the first nbc show. stood in the standby line outside the Rockefeller building, got tickets, waited a long time and sat in the audience for what was an extremely boring and unfunny episode. I know there are good episodes of conan but that wasnt the one I attended. So if your having regrets or FOMO due to missing a live taping of conan, know that I attended one and it sucked. No offense to conan cause I know hes cool and all. Same with me. I met him a long time ago, at a restaurant in New York. But I actually never watch his live show. I was always delaying while keep telling myself, I'll see it next year. Soon. And then the pandemic happened which made me unable to travel to the United States. I'm very sad to see him ending the show. I hope I would still have the chance to watch his live show in the future.
Andy is legitimately the definition of what a Co-Host should be. He is a professional sniper of precisely timed comedic interjection and retort. He is also almost as tall as Conan which shocked me when I went to a show once lol.
He talked about it on his own podcast "3 questions with Andy Richter". He's perfectly comfortable being a sidekick, it's just his personality, he doesn't really want the limelight. And when you listen to him talk with his guests on his podcast you instantly notice the focus is on them, he never puts his own ego in front. Conan does that, but in a funny self-depreciating way and that's cool too
The fact that celebrities are actually *offering* to come onto the show during Conan's last week is truly a testament to the monumental impact this kind oaf of a man has had on our cultural lexicon.
It's rare that you get a sidekick that was already a very talented stand-up comedian, able to make up material, Andy even had a tv show for a while. It's really been a great combination.
@John Micheal Kane you're right. I know he had done performing and he also had a TV show. He wasn't really known for stand-up, apparently he did more in the way of sketch comedy, so I stand corrected. He also worked as a writer, he also had his own TV show for a while. He did bit parts in other TV shows and got a job working with Conan.

Ron Swanson has only ever cried 3 times in his entire life 1 when he was a boy and got hit by a school bus 2 when lil Sebastian died And 3 when conan left television
Andy Richter’s timing, wit, and seeming ease in delivering both off-the-cuff and pre-written lines are unparalleled. I don’t think we truly understood what we had all of these years. Thank you, Andy.

I'm glad Conan gave Andy a little "thank you" in this. He's hilarious, always was. When he left the show for those couple years you could tell it wasn't the same(the show was still hilarious) but it was just missing something. And what ever that something is, it def showed when he came back. Those two are great together. Some of the best TV ever. It really is the end of an era and kinda sad it's done. I'm certain the new HBO show will be great but I'm gonna miss this format.
