Hello everyone! We are smoking the oldest ever recorded cigarette out of a Korean War-era Accessory Packet Can from 1951.
This thing is 65 years old, extremely rare, and will probably never be filmed again upon opening and enjoying - at least not quite like this.
This is a relic, and not to worry, this one wasn't the only in my collection, the other 2 are now in a respected collection and will be displayed soon. And this one will be sent off to a display as well.
It was certainly a pleasure opening this and enjoying a nice old Chesterfield cigarette and Topps brand gum. Both were still perfectly fresh and enjoyable. Something that I have been anticipating for about 5 years now. And this cost some hard earned money and time to locate. Worth every second and penny put into it!
Thanks so much for watching/subscribing. Hope you folks find this video interesting and hopefully a little entertaining as well.

@@mattyboi7491 I know you wrote this comment 4 years ago but... If you only smoked very old cigarettes, their rarity would mean that you'd struggle to smoke enough to develop tobacco dependence. Obviously, it would still come down to your will power to not smoke habitually. Which means, if you could do that, you might as well just rarely smoke regular cigarettes.

There's a part of your brain that never forgets cigarettes....like riding a bike. The Nicotine Buzz.....your heart rate just went up, along with your Systolic blood pressure. Paradoxically, your Central Nervous System just went into 'Calm and Focused' mode.....just the sort of thing a cold, scared and lonely soldier needs....steady the nerves. That's why you need water proof matches. If you think a smoke will 'steady you up' and you can't get a light......

Holy cow, that thing was amazingly preserved! It wasn't so much like opening a time capsule as it was like opening up a time machine! I really can't believe that the gum was not only fresh-tasting, but soft! It's funny to think that technology has advanced so much over the past half-century, but an old tin can is still such an effective way to keep food and materials fresh. We've seen how bad MREs can be after "only" 30 years. It's incredible to think this thing is more than TWICE that age. Sure the coffee is a mess, but when you opened that can it looked like it had just been packed yesterday--no stains, leaks, nasty smells... I know this was just an accessory unit and that an actual food component (like Spaghetti or Pork & Beans or whatever) would have most certainly been bad if it were that old, but it doesn't take anything away from the amazingness of the condition that this stuff retained for all these decades. Thank you for sharing the experience with us Steve!

Hey Steve! My dad served in Korea during the war and we had a great time watching this! These are indeed very rare as he said they only issued his unit SURPLUS WW2 K Rations out in the field - he never saw this one (normal mess hall on base when not out on patrol). His friends in other units coveted their 5-man ration boxes similar to what you had in another video. Interestingly on the 5-man ration you cracked open - he said the bread was about the same color he remembered for a barley (?) bread.

I'm in my 30's and I tell myself that maybe a few years before I know i'm going to go like 30 or 40 years from now if i'm still alive, I'll smoke at least 3 or 4 everyday till I pass. Thanks for your videos, I really enjoyed this one...even as a non-smoker. I completely agree with your idea that cigs should be included in rations today. Even though the number of non-smokers might lead most people to think otherwise the fact is that the non smokers would be able to trade their cigarette rations (in some countries 2-4 cigarettes would get you an meal twice as nutritious as any MRE).
