Howdy, folks! This time we've got 2 B-Unit cans from a Ration, Combat, Individual from 1951 and 1952. The first can didn't hold up well at all! Second was AMAZING and everything in it was perfectly preserved! Witness the most incredible Ration yet with perfectly edible and palatable food made 65 years ago with the B-2 Unit can!
Also, witness the terror of the first can (B-1 Unit) and it even cutting my pinky.. ouch! (really wasn't bad glad I didn't need a tetanus shot! hah!).
Hope everyone enjoys this one, and thanks so much for watching and subscribing. You are all so amazing, and thank you for the inspiration as well!

LET'S GET THIS OUT ONTO A TRAY, NICE™
NICE HISS™
I'LL BE COMING BACK AT YOU WITH SOMETHING NEW OR OLD, ALRIGHT COOL SEE YA™ - Розваги
These videos make me feel strangely at peace. I think it's the fact that we live in a world that grows increasingly more chaotic and confusing every day. But then there's you Steve, getting excited about vanilla cookie from 1951, and it somehow makes everything alright.
Well said....
Dave B Fucking Aye.
i think part of it for me is his voice/tone, its pretty calming
Oh my god it delicious
Hear, hear.
You would be a menace around archaeological dig sites... "hmm, dinosaur, nice, good texture, a little rocky"
xD omg
Petrified dinosaur turd.... savory.
LOL!
".... let's eat it."
Cool..neanderthal man...lets get it out on a tray.. nice..
Historians hundreds of years from now are going to consider Steve's videos a treasure trove. Imagine finding a Roman text that talks about the taste, texture, and storage of Legionnaire rations.
Tasting History with Max Miller here on UA-cam has a couple videos on that specific topic. He cites his sources, too.
its actually pretty satisfying to watch him open the cans... anyone with me...?
lol yeah
hell yea it is. i love watching them open these old MRE's
thats a p38 can opener and for authenticity reasons he uses it to open everything. that is the same can opener the troops would have used back in the war times. the fact it "irritates" you just goes to show how ignorant you are to the history of these MRE's.
ejmac11 it takes literally 10 seconds to open the can a p38. why in such a rush? i definitely agree about the history of war being of far greater interest but this isnt a ww2 history channel, its an MRE info channel. To be honest with you i have no idea why he uses the p38 for ever single thing but for some reason i really enjoy his videos.
ejmac11 =D
What makes Steve's reviews the best are his little side comments, sounds of disgust and joy, and the fact he will nibble on just about anything.
Conan C For me its the catch phrases, "Lets get this out on a tray. Nice"
ill give steve something to nibble on lol
Chris Hayhurst Nice!
@@dankburrito4219 agreed. I ♡ the comfort of his company and comments
Doesn't look matured enough - I would give it another 65 years.
+Steve1989 MREinfo U would make like 100,000 if u take the oldest mre that's in good condition and save it until it like 60 and sell it
+Cole Jackson well that's what I think would happen?
Cole Jackson
And in the worst case the nuclear war happens and you are forced to eat it yourself.
It'll make a pleasant change to the Soylent Green we'll all be eating by then.
i think my favorite thing about your videos is when you find un spoiled food, and its better than modern food :)
the sound of utter disappointment when old food is bad from you is great like if it's a personal attack against you haha
The can even dared to insult by slicing him!
Todd Caloiaro at the cost he probably paid I'd be ticked off too.
The really interesting thing is that food can last indefinitely if canned just right. The second ration is a perfect example of what happens when you package things correctly. You probably could have opened that in 2051 and it would be just as fine.
@@s.walker5574 The second can didn't contain any fruit product. All fruit has acid in it. Canned fruit reacting with metal = Time Bomb. You're welcome.
I love the old sunshine cookie I work for Kelloggs and it's a treat to see our old product😊 thanks for these awesome videos!!!!
I love those cookies!
"Ugh why do I always have to smell it too what's wrong with me"
hahaha
I super lol'd
docsadao what?
That B2 unit defied the laws of the universe
Seems like its always the jam that explodes.
Yeah, That surprised me. Looked like it was packaged this year.
+Corrosion37 Probably due to the sugar and fruit combination of the jam fermenting due to the age. If you taste old jam it has an alcohol taste, usually because of the yeast in the air.
Jam Bam
@Grumpy Cat lack of oxygen
Is it pun intended
"Oh my God, it's delicious"!! Greatest reaction ever. You sounded like you just found gold at the bottom of a hollow tree.
No matter how much I yell at the video "Steve, nooo!! Don't eat it!!!" you always eat it. You are a brave, crazy man.
A.E. King you're pretty
trebor sel omg stfu thirsty boy
Some of it is good like the last ration.
“Ok so, what service does your company provide?”
“Packaging services.”
“And what is the name of your company?”
“Packaging Service Company.”
“Uhh.”
like calling your cereal making company 'Generic Cereal making-and-packaging company'.
the fact that the first one was so bad made it so much better when u opened the second.. these vids are amazing. everytime u crack a can open it's like a time capsule. so cool.
My theory, and if anyone else already said something similar... apologies to them;
From the looks of things, the B2 unit was totally edible & preserved since there was no jelly or jam can to putrefy and pop open, which inevitably would lead to everything else going bad.
Your videos by far have the best comments section. Never any arguments.
Your old ration reviews are the absolute best man!
I love Steve’s surfer dude talk.
I don't even know how I found this channel but god I'm addicted to these. They're so fascinating.
The way these cans are opened is so satisfying to watch
I love how into it he is. Great video!
I once broke open a mason jar full of plums around 1995, which were canned around the 40`s, or even the 50`s. There was no pooch on the top. They tasted just like you would expect. Overcooked, but just as tasty as a modern packed plum in a mason jar. I ate the whole thing. I attended a university seminar on canning and the lecturer showed a canned potato which was 100 years old. No discoloration to the spud.
potatoes are notoriously resilient, reminds me of that one video on the Super Size Me DVD where Morgan Spurlock kept some McDonald's fries in a glass jar for like six weeks and they looked exactly the same weeks later.
You know by not tasting the first ration you create dramatic tension for the second ration. It's thrilling!
It also made me reconsider the can hiss and if that means your can is more tightly sealed. The second one after all was flat and somehow perfect.
+Suspicious Tumbleweed* Fermentation creates gases and pressurizes the can somewhat, the pressurized air escaping creates the hiss, i.e. the more rancid the stuff inside the can is the higher the pressure will be and the more it will hiss. Though if it doesn't hiss at all, it probably does mean that it isn't sealed (because the can isn't pressurized at all).
I love how disgruntled he is by this nasty old food. This is great content!
2 years later.......................gruntled gold (fact)
Every single one of those chocolate disks that I've seen has had really severe fat blooming. Like they look completely rotted through and inedible, but they're actually perfectly fine.
Are you the player character in a Fallout game? I feel like this is what my character is saying every time he goes to eat some random old shit he found in a radiated wasteland.
+Kao Eclipse i am worried he mite turn to eating peoples brains like a zombie
+Steve1989 MREinfo I actually finished a playthrough of Fallout 1 just last month. I tend to do a playthrough roughly every year. I promptly spent the rest of the month playing Fallout 2 though. I say, they don't make 'em like they used to. I haven't tried it yet, but an indie game called UnderRail is supposedly a Metro 2033/Fallout lovechild in isometric style. You might want to check it out.
+Steve1989 MREinfo Please, I can only get so erect. You're already my current favorite youtuber, now you also like the classic fallout games? This keeps getting better and better.
*****
Well, now I have to play some Fo2. I love all the politics between New Reno, Vault City and the NCR you can get into, with all the intrigue and whatnot. Then there's this 50's Mobster-theme in New Reno that just feels so unique, more than The Strip in NV where every quest feels more isolated from the rest of the world. For example, where NPCs comment on certain things you did - none of that in the newer games. You're always the newb Vault Dweller, they seldom acknowledge you killing that one named raider or one of the faction leaders.
I remember when FoT came out and people disliked it because they wanted practically Fallout 3 - I actually liked it. Looking at it now it was kinda ahead of its time, Wasteland 2 is really similar and was a big hit.
You must have a really strong stomach, my friend. Hat off to you!
“Packaged by Packaging Service Co.” 😂 Canned filled at Can Filler Co,food prepared at Food Prep Co,can made at Can Making Co.....it’s the joke that keeps on giving!
Hey man, love your content. It's really theraputic to wind-down at night with a couple of these videos.
Thanks for your service and praise be to your iron stomach.
"Why do I always go to smell it? What's wrong with me??" ROTFLMAO!!!! That line made my day!
Have you ever been nauseated after eating any of this old food? I just love these videos, thanks for making them.
I found a little about natural vanilla extract, it contains a chemical called methyl paraben that has been used as a preservative, I wonder if the cookie out-gassing this chemical could have been the reason the other items stayed fresh.
monkeyboy4746 I think vanillIN is fake vanilla flavouring but I could be wrong
+emilyge0rgia
Vanillin could either be organic or synthetic. Vanilla extract obviously contains more than just the vanillin, but you can get it in different purities AFAIK.
I love how happy you get over a nice old ration!
Your personality is so infectious! Love your videos Steve!
Okay I'm obsessed haha, super dope channel! I'm sad I can't sho this to my dad (he passed away), he would have loved this to as a military guy ^^
I'm loving these videos....love it when you find something that holds up after all the years...fascinating. Looking fwd to more!
"I can smell something weird already." -Steve 2016
I just wanted to say that your videos are awesome and they actually inspired me to start looking into these vintage rations
I love that whenever you try something you always say "mmmm"even if it turns out bad seconds later . Really amazing though that the second ration didn't spoil , probably because it didn't have jam in it! lol
I'm so glad I found this channel because I love war stuff like this.
Boy that first one really pissed him off lmao
Thanks Steve, first time I saw these videos I didn't think I'd like them, but they're really entertaining.
Sticking your finger on a metal can from 1951 Korea and black mold... nothing like lockjaw and intestinal infection to bring you a UA-cam video. Now this guy deserves a platinum viewer award! I hope your still around to receive it Steve.
yeah wearing gloves when handling these things is the smart play.
Please never change, Steve. You're an absolute delight.
Steve you need to setup your main page, It's set to say you have no videos, you can change it in the settings and add whatever you want people to see when they first visit the page, Theres also a button to press so you can switch between what visitors see and what you see so that you know what it looks like for everyone else, Btw love the videos man, keep up the good work!
No worries man, The main page is looking a lot better now!
When I hear "I can smell something weird already" I know I'm in for a treat, keep up the good work Steve, awesome videos!
he risks life and limb to bring us quality revews. man steve u need ur own tv show lol that cookie tho make us want smell o vision.
Wow that second ration was amazing! A true time capsule.Awesome video!
Love the old school video! Amazing that a 65 year old canned ration could be in such great shape. That thing had to be stored in some old guys climate stable basement for all these years, having zero heat damage. Extremely satisfying to watch you open and enjoy it!
I love the music you compose for these videos, they are so nice and nostalgic somehow. Your videos are so relaxing to unwind to at night before bed.
This is incredible! A 65 year old canned ration that has food that didn't go bad! And exactly! The ration looked like it could've been packed a mere month ago dude!
wow that b2 ration was shocking! Amazing that it was so good. After all you've said about spoiled dry milk, I didn't expect you to try that, props. Wish you had used hot water for your old school mocha, I'm not a fan of room temperature coffee.
That can of grape jelly was really jammed in there. that first can was a real disaster.
As always, good video and I can't wait for more.
Dude you rock, I am sitting here eating out of the same mess kit. Except I have modern food. Anyway this is my favorite channel on youtube. Hope to see these vids for years to come.
I just found your channel and love it! You're hilarious! Very interesting topic, too. I never knew there were guys like you that did this! I just subscribed. :)
"I don't know... it looks pretty weird. ahhhhh. let's go for the whole thing, lol
Always a good night when Steve uploads! :D
Welp, this was truly crazy and fascinatingly awesome. I just sat here eating fresh doughnuts with coffee and watched the whole thing. Nice job.
I love how he has the can opener on his keys lol
Why lol?
Just going to say at first i just watched these vids because they're pretty interesting but i subscribed because your a really cool guy, keep on rocking and making vids man!
The Tao of Ration Reviews - Yin meets Yang. Great vid!
These videos are a masterclass in how to make something utterly mundane totally fascinating, who of us out there doesn't wish they were there to try a 65yr old biscuit??.
You're a brave man.
I love your enthusiasm
Awesome video (as usual) Steve! It's so interesting to see what will be lurking inside of these cans after the contents have had a half-century of waiting to see the light of day. How amazing is it to see the difference between the conditions of the contents of these two cans? And, how perfect is it that you just happened to open two to find them in these opposite conditions? Two perfectly preserved cans or two completely spoiled cans wouldn't have been anywhere near as fascinating! Well, I suppose two totally spoiled cans WOULD be pretty fascinating, but you know what I mean... Thanks for sharing this history with us!
Your videos are awesome, keep going!
love your vids man keep it up!
Excellent reviews!
Great video, as always!! Kickin' ass brotane!!!
Very impressive! Was really surprised at that second half. Shared! :)
Packaging Company, We pack stuff! That's as bland as bran flakes. Sorry ya cut your finger, those tins can really fight back sometimes! Hope the Sunshine Cookie was worth it though~! ^.^
+Puffy Tops I'm so sorry, but I can't help but question your profile picture.
+Warregory ™ I'm a strange person...Is that Simon Belmot from Castlevania as yours?
+Steve1989 MREinfo The cookie seems really familiar, like a bargain brand cookie sold in some stores where I live. I wonder if it's the same company...
Puffy Tops Actually, no: It's High General Turalyon, from the Warcraft universe of fantasy. wow.gamepedia.com/Turalyon
+Warregory ™ Ah, I don't PC game, I play a ton of Nintendo stuff so...of course my mind goes to Castlevania
The fact that you say "let's" and "we'll" in your videos makes me love you even more c:
These videos are awesome. So entertaining!!!!
I don't care what it is....I respect anyone that is so into something like you are with these crazy rations!keep it up Steve! love your videos!
watching you eat that b2 ration was strangely mesmerizing, don't know why but I like it.
Man, always a surprise to see one that edible! That B1 unit was to be expected. Glad you didn't try any of that. Don't need you dying on us!
Awesome as always! Very happy to see your new videos pop up in my feed!
+Steve1989 MREinfo They are welcome to risk their own ass any day if they want. I can easily say I won't be eating food that looks like what came out of that first can! I have eaten a lot of weird food from the locals in both Iraq and Afghanistan, doesn't mean I will eat bad food haha.
Haters are gonna hate though. You earned my support and continue to remind me every video man. Don't let the crazy people mess with you.
Watching these old vids, it amazes me that Steve is still alive
Man I love these videos
Awesome vids man!!
Loved the sunshine cookie review.
awesome !! it really is like stepping back in time !!
This video was an emotional rollercoaster!
While i know its impossibly insane to believe, i cant help but feel you make these videos specifically for me lol.....i get a weird excitement when i see youve posted a new one...god bless ya steve.
awesome videos Steve...😀
Absolutely awesome content.
I'm having Tuna past its expiration date, and cookie flavored eliquid in my vaporizer. I'm ready.
Lol those sounds you make, oue uuh ! Keep em videos comin
Those cookies are older than the vast majority of people watching this video 0_o
Yes dude
B-2 was a shocker dude, excellent.
That's amazing everything in the ration was still good that goes to show you even the canning back then was done with pride and care for everything to hold up this long
Why is this so enjoyable to watch?
Awesome work you have gained another subscriber.
lol why is this my favorite new channel. this is why youtube exists.
my grandmas brother was in the US air force during Korea. he is still alive today and tells me about his days getting drunk in Piccadilly square in the UK way back when and having to take buses everywhere.
why did I go in for a smell what am I doing with my life... oh god I sliced my finger... carries on.
your a legend man.
Thanks for another classic video, Steve! Not sure if you've answered this question in a previous video, but I'm curious as to what you do with the wrappers and packaging once you're done with them. I know you mention that you save some of them, just wanted to understand if you actually put them up on display for the public. Thanks!
Wow it's unreal how perfect that second can was. I wish all food was canned like that.
You always try to open the can with the key without lifting the tab. And everytime you never can do it.
I always think to myself "Is he gonna lift the tab this time? Nope there he goes again."
Great stuff.
awesome love the videos buddy keep it up Steve
