- Which is better? The Nitro or Electric version of the Traxxas Slash. On this episode of 10th Scale Garage, we take a look at two two wheel drives RC short course trucks and put them head to head. We compare their off-road performance, speed, and price. We test the top speed, durability and look under the hood at what makes them tick as well s a few upgrades.

Could you imagine Nitro heli’s as a hobby? Jesus Nitro planes and Trucks are bad enough with everything breaking, nitro heli’s it’s like 1% time flying, 99% time fixing
I am team both I have two nitro's and four electric they all require maintenance little bit more on nitros I enjoy all of them
Same. I think we have 6 nitros and close to 100 electrics. Of those nitros, only 3 of them are in running condition. Haha.
Nitro all the way! The only electrics I own are my scaler trail trucks.

I would love to get a Nitro at some point, but just hesitant because I know nothing about them. Looks like a blast, and they sound freaking awesome. Was thinking maybe a Revo 3.3 would be pretty sick.
Nitro is fun when everything works. But only recommend if you like tinkering and working on R/Cs more than you like running them. I had a Revo 3.3 and Jato 3.3 back in the days before brushless & lipos got cheap. But now there's really nothing nitro does better than electric except make noise.
I think Traxxas makes the best nitros for beginners.
@@blastarrow5938agreed. I just got back into the hobby after several years. I bought a revo 3.3 and hate it. It breaks itself all the time between chewing up spur gears and servo’s deciding to just go wacko all of a sudden. I’ve even had it almost runaway on me a few times when it was only like 50 feet away. I’d give it a brake command and it would just not receive it for a few seconds still going full throttle before finally stopping.
Next paycheck i went and bought a maxx and have zero complaints. Gonna throw that revo on ebay or something.

excellent! took me three days of cranking on my nitro it finally roared to life in the house cus i just wanted to see how strong my battery starter was.i just kept her running. house smelled great for a week.wife not the happiest.

Can I suggest something pls, is that you consider editing the music to be a little lower volume than how they are usually on your vids. The difference in volume between when it's your voices and when the bgm comes on is large and might be less startling to the viewer if were better synced. Thanks for taking in the suggestion, and the music you pick is dope fwiw. 🙂

I'm been thinking of getting a slash for Christmas, but been on the fence of ether nitro or battery, only thing i can think of is nitro is better cause I don't have to wait for battery's to charge and they have more power.
electric have more power depending on setup and the warmup/tuning would be the equivalent of charging batteries sometimes, I say this being nitro 100% gotta go in with the right expectations

So im getting the vibe of Nitro are for the process and appreciation of the work. Not for the people that arent mechanically inclined.i bought a bigfoot and then i decided to get a rustler and also got a entire upgrade kit to all metal. Im thinking about my step which is gettin way to far ahead since im still waiting for the rustler. But im already getting ahead of myself and wondering what I think is next. I was considering a k5 blazer high trail. Or the k10. Idk what do you fellas think? Live in illinois flat lands of hell.
I think I'll get a nitro. Have one at least and can also have the elect for when things go wrong lol😂
I recommend Traxxas nitro vehicles for your first nitro.
@@10thScaleGarage I stay with Traxxas for sure. Got a bl2s slash and a slash VXL. Man that VXL is extreme. I may get a max this week or a t max. Idk yet
Update. I have two MAXX. Just sold. My Maxx. Slash. Got the new hd stampede.and the slash ultimate. Now. I'm about to order a nitro slash.
Nice comparison! I always wanted to get a Slash, but I have nowhere to race around here, and monster trucks IMO are better for general bashing. Also my Rustler VXL stock out of the box goes 50mph on 3S so maybe you should've left the VXL in the Slash to give it a better chance hehe.
The slash is pretty dang durable for being a short course truck. I talk a lot of trash about Traxxas, but the slash is pretty legit.

Nitro is great, got me back in the hobby after i quit because 2wd buggy went mid motor and I just don't like it. Hard to beat the smell and sound. Traxxas nitros are a decent starting point but you don't learn as much as you would with say the kyosho mp10 rtr. I have both the nitro versions of the rustler and slash. I prefer the slash. The 3.3 feels more reliable. I also like that nitro feels like it gives power like a real car.
Side note: you can prime the engine without having to dry crank it by pinching the exhaust line at the tank connection and popping the tank lid several times. I do it until i see fuel enter the line and then i do it 2 more times.
Ppl make Nitro harder than it really is.TRX are not that great but for an RTR not that Bad but needs upgrades.i have JATO s and Tmaxx s. But when you have 8th scale Nitro Engine's to choose from it's a different ball game !! Very Fun and more Engine's to choose from . Nitro All the Way!! No disrespect to the Channel for saying 8th scale !! Side note upgrade the carb on TRX and it makes a World but then you'll split the con Rod!!

my nitro slash ran for a day now i cant get it to start. the idle was set too high so it would roll when i started it. i adjusted it now it wont start at all.
Reset to factory settings. Adjust the idle once ot gets hot?
Love the content but 👎 nitro. Way to much maintenance. Electric is just to easy and won’t piss of the neighborhood. Nice video guys!!
This is a perfect comparison. I was hoping the electric slash was a lcg chassis, but a 3s might’ve been better. The nitro slash is pretty much 3s performance.

The electric is for someone that isn't mechanically inclined or a 12 year old. The nitro is for someone who likes tinkering

Pointless comment, there are still plenty of 12 year olds with nitro rc cars just like in the 90s. 12 years olds have different interests, some like video games, some like music, some like nitro rc cars. stop acting like the older generations are somehow better than the newer generations. It’s childish behavior. We are different, yes, but that is something to be celebrated, not something to be ridiculed.
Been researching these. EVERYONE says nitro requires lots of maintenance, but NO ONE says what that maintenance entails.
Same here I got my eye on the nitro slash did u happen to get one yet if so what's you opinion from one beginner to another?
Suck the tank out, start it again and Run the tank dry every time you are finished for the day. Charge the receiver battery after you are done for the day. Clean and oil the air filter element every 10 tanks or so depending on dust levels. If you are going to store it for more than a month, put a few drops of after run oil down the carb and turn the motor over. Discharging and charging batteries for electrics is a bigger time commitment. The question is more about your mechanical competency when things go wrong, than whether you are willing to do the preventative maintenance, which isn't a big deal.

Hell yeah nitro 100% I'm all electric meow but I started with nitro and want just one to keep in my stable. You're making think a slash. If you had to choose one nitro to have just to have and run for the fun, what would it be?
I would just buy a slash roller and get a brushless kit with wheels a body and gears, generally cheaper

My nitro will be ripping before your lipo is charged. I hate that I have to plan to play with my lipo models. I run my crawlers on nimh so it is truly grab and go.
Team electric all day! I started the hobby nitro. Made a whole bunch of dumb mistakes. Eventually understood what the hell I was doing. I was playing with the truck less and less. Between the nitro fuel expiring, finicky high speed low speed needles, glow plugs going bad, glow plug igniters dying, pool cords hurting my hand, any little thing that could go wrong with a nitro setup, I almost quit the hobby. Thanks to my son crying about me trying to sell my HPI trophy truggy, I decided to convert it into electric and have never been happier.
Nitro is just fundamentally such a poor unreliabile system. If these rcs had mini 4 stroke gasoline engines they'd be 10x more reliable in every way. Even 2 stroke gasoline rc's are far superior. Nitro is just absolute garbage.

@@jamesfranko5098that is absolutely baloney. Nitro is actually very reliable, i have one myself. I have an engine with over 30 litres through it and it starts so easy om the starter box every time. The problem with the 2 and 4 stroke gas engines is that they are big, heavy and make low amounts of power. For example, a 50cc gokart engine makes about 4 horsepower. A 3.5cc nitro engine makes 2.85 horsepower. The power to displacement and power to weight ratio is far more on a nitro engine. This is also because of the fuel, as nitromethane has far more power potential than gas. As long as you know what you're doing, NITRO is far superior.

i turned my my 2wd nitro slash into a monster slash with just about all aluminum under the body. i still need to install my bell crank and rear shock tower then its good to go.

Have had both electric a nitro I'm nitro guy I like it play with mine not sit there and watch it charge I can run tank of nitro sit down have cold beer then play with it electric you'll be there watching it charge that's no fun so bought extra batteries and it melted the wires at motor BOO
