I own 5 Traxxas nitros , to turn if off, hold your finger over the exhaust tip , make sure the engine is up to temperature before making tuning adjustments, always start with the high speed needle first , your idle is high because you need to adjust the idle screw, your carburetor gap is too wide
@@NEVERGOON100 This is how I turn off the engine, and I have never had this happen. Pinching the fuel pipe is also a bad idea; your engine starts running on an lean mixture for the last few seconds.
It’s recommended to not cover the exhaust tip, but it’s a faster way to turn it off personally to be safe is wouldn’t cover the exhaust to so your engine lasts longer
@reaklyf3451 Only reason to not use the exhaust tip to shut the engine off is if you do NOT want to use it a few weeks/a month later. You always want to pinch the fuel tube so that the engine starves. If you want to let it sit a few months and you only close off the exhaust you will love the rust that gathers
Nice vid the car is rolling forward u need to adjust the idle turn the idle screw counter clockwise to reduce idle that will keep u from having to hold the brakes to keep it from rolling forward
@@DH-dt9zj Depends on temp and humidity... I got mine just now and the idle speed HAD to be lowered along with the high speed and low speed. Carbs are different for sure
Not trying to sound like a jerk but nitro is not for everyone. You need to take time and learn how to tune because you could have fixed the high idle instead of holding the brake.
@@stephenstack3292 he needs to close the idle gap, just a tad it had good power and did not sound lean at all Maybe pinch the fuel line count 3 to 4 seconds and then richen low speed needle 1/8 a turn to load up fuel lowering idle rpm
There absolutely is a learning curve to nitro. That being said, it’s unbelievably frustrating to watch someone give it a half ass effort by running around on a crappy tune and then saying all these negative things about nitro, making false claims about how you can’t drive them in snow, mud, or rain 😂 If it’s not for you that’s fine, but if you’re not gonna give it an honest effort don’t complain about how it’s this horrible platform to get into. Electric can be equally as frustrating, and that’s coming from someone who was initially an electric purist and now owns more nitros than electrics. When I drove everyday electric was hands down the better option. Nowadays I’m only able to drive a few times a month so it’s more about having the best experience on those days out, and for me, nothing beats the driving experience that nitro delivers. Also, it irks me when people say nitros are dirty. Literally one wipe with a towel and they’re clean. Electrics get just as nasty if you’re, you know, actually having fun
Exactly why I have gone to electric. I can fix tune and restore older nitro engines, but I HATE THEM. I grew up in the Nitro era, and hated it then. Electric for me is relaxing compared to fuel operated. I do small engine repair ,have for 30 years.
I have a Jato 3.3 with a modified engine, Revo 3.3 with a OS .21tm, Nitro Rustler with a Dynamite .19, and the Rustler 4x4 BL-2S electric. All are fun in their own ways! I like the electric for the low noise level, but I’ll always have a soft spot for nitros. I always wanted to get the Nitro Slash, but I ain’t got room anymore :)
I bought the same slash in the same color about at the same date as you. Also came with the same “problems”. All you need is adjust the low speed idle after the brake in and you are good to have fun. I’m super happy with my slash. I fucking love it.
YES!!!! Glad you have one!! I have had a Nitro Slash for over a year and I just take it out of my garage and thrash up the street and my older neighbors sit out and love watching it speed down the street. Love It!!! It really helps me to heat the engine up a little before i start it with a heat gun. Also use an OS LC3 Glow Plug Instead of the Traxxas one. The LC3's longer reach extends coil farther into the engine's combustion chamber improving combustion for better idling and good acceleration and it is made for varying speed. Slash ON!!! Also get a temp gun and monitor the temp to ensure it dos not get too hot and the engine will last a lot longer.:). Good Luck!
You have to tune both the low speed needle and the idle screw to get the idle to come down. Start with the idle screw that should do it, turn it counter clockwise
Idle speed needle, then high speed needle, then low speed needle adjustments. In that order. In wards is leaner, out wards is richer. Leaner equals more throttle, too rich and it will bog. Prime it by turning over the engine with you finger plugging the exahust. Hpi has a good how to tutorial on how to tune their savage. Worth the watch. After run oil is essential. Drop a drop or two through the carb and turn over. Thats the essentials
Dont need to pour the fuel in like that u can squeeze the fuel bottle, push the nozzle into the fuel, and then release it .Hole fuel up into the bottle also u should prime the car by putting your finger on the exhaust pipe same when u wanna shut it off there is also a idle needle on the carb to set
Im sure you already fixed it being this was posted 5 months ago, but your idle speed needle is screwed in too far, and your low speed needle is too lean. As for trims, ditch the TQi and get something digital, or like your friend said, get a wifi module and use it with your phone to set trims. But I personally prefer a spektrum remote to the TQi.
Just got my first nitro 3.3 slash, tuning has been trial and error. It’s not too bad though (watch something go wrong after I say this) but so far I’ve just used Reddit and UA-cam for learning. Mine runs pretty fast, occasionally stalls but I’ve noticed only when the tank is 1/4th full so idk if that has something to do with it. Ngl I abandoned the break in procedure and just drove it lightly, not going too fast. For the idle, mine wanted to take off while idling so I adjusted the idle speed, and the low speed needle. Good luck though
I’ve thought about getting a Nitro but I have a Slash ultimate and a 2wd rustler that I love but after watching this I don’t know if I want a Nitro anymore. Looks like a lot more work that my electrics. I wonder if the nitros would work better in south Florida with all the heat/humidity without over heating quickly?
That is so out of tune brother… lol. You would enjoy it so much more tuned. It would glide and sit like normal. And the breaks would work better. It’s like night and day

Im not sure how good or bad the state of electrical RC was back then, i bought a Kyosho Inferno GT like 15 years ago, AWD, "big" engine for a RTR, car was cool, i mean, i loved it, but it was a PAIN to get it "broken in" and to work as it should, when it worked it was cool, i dont remember breaking parts that i couldnt make it work after something happened with it, iirc the electrical parts of the car, had to use AA batteries, or AAA, not sure, so thats pain #2, pain #1 was breaking it in, it was hard to get it to start at first, then it comes #3, the fuel, the single advantage of it, like full size cars vs electric cars is charging times, with electrical it takes hours, depending on your charger, but the fastest of chargers cant compete with filling up a tank, same with RC, fuel was kind of hard to get, and kind of expensive i guess, with Lipo´s the cost of opperation is way cheaper, even if you have to buy expensive batteries. Nitro cars are cool, but now that i kind of got back into the hobby, electric is the way to go.
If you don’t want your truck to roll like that, adjust the idle to rich, counterclockwise and rich in your fuel so that less fuel will be feeding into the car so that the truck won’t roll itself
Put your finger on the exhaust pipe and smother it out it kills the motor immediately when you're done running it make sure the Piston is at the bottom of the stroke roll the motor over with the flywheel if you leave it at the top of the stroke it crushes the piston and you wind up losing compression faster just keep the air filter clean oiled but the motor doesn't really get totally broke in until about 3/4 of that gallon of fuel backwards starts really running good I got like 4 gallons run through mine and it runs like the date was brand new
Id get a new body over that. If I spent that I want a new perfect truck. I have had slashes and I want everything new and perfect at least before I roll it myself 😂 I love the slash and nitro sounds great but it's hard enough to keep all the brushless one together.
