FILM DESCRIPTION:
"Grease," said the poster and the Barry Gibb song, "is the word." Transferring its setting from Chicago to sunny California, and adding a dash of disco to the ersatz '50s score, producer Allan Carr and director Randal Kleiser turned this long-running Jim Jacobs-Warren Casey Broadway smash into the biggest blockbuster of 1978. 1950s teens Danny (John Travolta) and Australian transfer Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) spend their "Summer Nights" falling in love, but once fall comes, it's back to Rydell High and its cliques. As one of the bad-boy T-Birds, Danny has to act cool for best pal Kenickie (Jeff Conaway) and their leather-clad mates Sonny (Michael Tucci) and Doody (Barry Pearl, in the role Travolta played on-stage). Despite befriending Frenchy (Didi Conn), one of the rebel Pink Ladies, virginal Sandy is "too pure to be Pink," as the Ladies' leader, Rizzo (Stockard Channing), acidly observes. Declaring their devotion in such ballads as "Hopelessly Devoted to You" and "Sandy," Sandy and Danny split, reconcile, and split again amidst a pep rally, dances, drive-ins, and a drag race, before deciding "You're the One That I Want" at the climactic carnival. With Travolta white-hot from Saturday Night Fever (1977), Grease soundtrack singles climbed the charts and summer movie crowds poured in. With the presence of Joan Blondell, Eve Arden, Sid Caesar, Edd "Kookie" Byrnes, and Frankie Avalon appealing to grown-up memories, Grease became the highest-grossing film of 1978, the highest-grossing movie musical ever, and the third most popular film of the new blockbuster '70s after Star Wars (1977) and Jaws (1975). Its sequel, Grease 2, did not exactly set the world on fire in 1982.

I am a Grease fan and I like all the songs the actors sang and dance, this is my thing I like and love to Do. I watched Grease often but now I don't anymore, I watch this musical video before.

I like how Frenchy runs after Sandy- she is the nicest of the Pink Ladies.
And the ugliest.

Absolute perfection 😂
I think she was using Sandy to punish Danny for breaking up with her.
That victorious, satisfied look on Rizzo's face after Sandy ran away....Danny knew he had been beaten.

1:00 - 1:15 Has always been one of my favourite moments in the film. That exchange between Riz and Danny is intense.
I know! I was thinking the same thing!
Me too !
What were they doing. Did they go out?
anna I oop- they used to date but during the movie they were broken up. Rizzo set up Sandy running into Danny because she knew this would happen (at least imo) and that’s why Danny looks at her like that after Sandy runs away.
@@brooklynj.4276 They never dated
Is anyone else here completely in love with Olivia Newton-John's accent?
ditto.
She was born in England.

Sorry babe promise I won't act like that
Don't worry John found Samuel L. Jackson later.
Bitch stfu its a movie and they don't do that in real life stupid
Totally uncalled for and completely unnecessary in this film. This film is so lame and stupid and such a weak plot. I can't understand why this movie is popular much less considered a classic.

RIP Olivia-Newton John. She was outstanding here!
And in Xanadu
I don't understand why Danny made such a big deal of going out with Sandy (even when they were at the ice cream parlor), he tried for his friends not to see them, yet when his friends join them, they never once say anything mean like "go away , you don't belong here" to Sandy, they are just like "whatever" -_-
my guess is cos of the fabrications to his story. the song 'summer nights' told two different stories; danny implying to his homies that he either boned sandy or things got steamy between em (which was false); and sandy telling her girls how he was such a nice guy and a gent. him being with her and his friends would at some point not only show that he lied but also that he was hell over heals for her....and as the co-leader of the group, (with kenickie), they always wanted to give the impression that they weren't "suckas for love"......that's my take on it anyway, i cud be wrong
el84oro idk about that cause there are cues in the movie that showed that his friends already knew how he felt about her, Kenickie even asks him if he’s still thinking about her
Leslie Perez Cliques....Danny is in the “cool” bad boy crowd, sandy is a goody goody. Well, tell the end when she sexes up for him.
Yes that is the whole point, no'one had problems with her (except Rizzo mocking mildly during that girls night). It was more in his head than it was real.
Yup, i hate that happens...
Omg how happy he is when he sees her again😍 that gets me
Yeah
Yeah Me To! 🤩
Right they’re both so happy and then he realizes he has to “act cool” in front of his friends
I LOVE the way this scene plays out & he switches up for the fellas, then the look he gives Rizzo
Through the entire movie I don't know why Sandie even bothered with him.
Me either..what a jerk, smh
she didn't, he pursued her
Nah she thinks I can manage him that’s y

I love how they just take her pompoms. XD "Welp, two perfectly good pompoms. Gonna go have fun with these later…"
Lmaooo
Wtf 😂
Until Danny starts fronting for his friends, this is a really sweet scene. You can tell how totally freaking genuine and real he and Sandy were with each other during the summer and how each one fills in what's missing in the other too. Their romance isn't under-appreciated and yet-somehow it is.
The vulnerability and trust in his voice when he first see's her always gets me. It's the REAL Danny.
I couldn't agree with you more. I was disheartened to hear about the demise of Olivia Newton John. She was a classy lady and a great singer. What is your favorite Olivia Newton John song?
They are the beating heart of one of the most popular musicals ever written! That’s impossible. They can’t be underrated. Plus I love a good opposites attract story

0:51 is just one of the best reactions in the movie. This is also one of my most favorite scenes in the movie. Also Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta go together great!
coolcupcake 145 were they really in a relationship in real life?
@@twinsylvia17 they weren't, at least from what we know because they've always been so close to each other (and still are), but they always publicly said they didn't date and were just great friends
I can't though when Danny blinks at Rizzo, it looks like he's apologizing and telling her to look after Sandy and he hates himself and I have a lot of rewatching to do.
I get it..... In that moment it breaks my heart too
He's not telling ger to look after Sandy it's more like a, why did you do this you knew it would hurt her
Rizzo is being a total bich. Why is she enjoying interfering so much?
Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. Rizzo simply could not allow Sandy to carry the delusion in her head that Danny was such a wonderful guy. Sandy needed to see him for what he really is, and Danny showed her who he really is.
Nah, she enjoyed that too much. She wants everyone to be as miserable as she is. I do think she and Sandy are symbolically the same person, really. No one is all bad, and Sandy is just annoying, no wonder they laughed at her. Yet, most of us want to be a princess like her, too.
The look he gives Rizzo at 1:02
Sam Rifkin abba
Yes😌
Danny have so much love for sandy but he doesn't want to show it
That's right. He loves her but is ashamed to show it
Beta Male Syndrome
I really love how he reacts BEFORE he is surrounded by his jock friends. He seems so excited! Until he realizes what it will mean.
I love Kenickie and the boys look on Danny when he is "woowing". As if to say "WTF dude, you actin like a pussy!" I never get tired of this movie.
+gutz1981 I wouldn't have cared what they thought. Sandy is hot
Rock God Sandy was one of the prettiest girls but she didn't fit in at the time bc she was known as miss goodie two shoes she didn't put out that's what high school boys want but after that's over and they mature a little the girls like Sandy is what they want bc they're trust worthy.
I’ve seen it 8 times as of today in the course of 15 years
The fact is Danny did what a lot of teenagers his age would have done... showed out for his friends. That doesn't make him a phony in my opinion, just someone not strong enough to resist peer pressure. If anything, Stockard Channing's character and the others should be ashamed for embarassing him.
You're totally right. It's obvious that he was pressured by his friends. I always thought Rizzo was rude when I was a kid.
Yeah
Most guys in my HS would have caved as well. I can see why Danny did. But you can tell from his expression to Rizzo that he hated it.
Nah, Danny and his friends were just dickheads.
@@dieterwashere You: Sees perfectly reasonable comment relating what happened in the scene to things that really happen
Also you: "Nah, Danny and his friends were just dickheads."
Haha when she says she has a surprise for him, kinickie gets excited. When sandy pops out his head turns in confusion!
I genuinely wonder if this was because Jeff had a huge crush on Olivia as he should.
The best and highest grossing musical movie of all time.
Jensen Castro Well, not anymore?
Rip Olivia….she will be missed 😭
R.I.P. Olivia Newton-John you will always be Sandy Olsson be an honorary Pink Ladies to me.
Rip Olivia Newton John 1948-2022 She will be remembered as Sandy in a 1978 Musical Film called Grease
And Kira in Xanadu
That look from Stockard Channing is pure acting.
That intense non-verbal exchange at 0:58 between Danny and Rizzo after Sandy storms off... when I was a kid I wanted to create dialogue for what they are saying to each other as if they were communicating telepathically, but I could never quite put my finger on it.
When I was five I used to believe him about them being two of them LMAO I remember being so confused!
I was confused by it at 8.
My mother explained he was trying to be cool. lol
OMG I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE
I ALSO WATCHED IT WHEN I WAS FIVE
SAYUNDEE!
This scene is brilliantly directed... and brilliantly acted. John Travolta's range of reactions in this scene is amazing.
His walk is priceless
Im obsessed with grease. Seen this about 381520932 times already!
The way kenickie starts smirking at Danny when he gets excited seeing Sandy was the highlight for me
My favorite part about this scene was the way Travolta looked at Stockard Channing and the way she "evilly" smiled at him.
Yes, I initially thought she was just giving him a dirty look for what he did to Sandy. But it looks like she planned this.
@@dansmith1474 u really think she planned it?
@@javonmccovery3081 it's possible
Oh she definitely planned it and knew how he'd react in front of the other guys. She wanted to humiliate him/ruin it for him and Sandy probably for revenge at him not being interested in her.
while protecting his reputation as a cool guy, it was killing him inside to treat her that way lol. i like how he gives that stare of despise to rizzo "you got me good bitch"
Sandy's teeth scared me a little xD
Me too!!
Yeah they are really weird when she says "Danny!"
What do you expect from a piranha human hybrid lol
RIP Sandy
Love Frenchy running after her! So cute!
Rizzo's face after Sandy left.
Jan's confused face looking at Marty after Sandy left.
Marty's "don't care" face looking at Jan
And then we have Danny, with a face between the "what have I done" and "curse you Rizzo"
And Kenickie's face after Sandy runs off as a "Okay. That was a bad idea"
Kind of looks like Jan was thinking, "I didn't sign up to do THIS." Marty is just thinking, "Rizzo's the boss."
0:10 scary

The face when he Saw Sandy was Just Amazinggggg😂🤩
This scene paved the way for that adorable scene at the burger joint, when he tried to make up with her--- so cute!!! I love this movie
I’ve seen it 8 times and been a fan since 2008
RIP Olivia Newton John
I love how you can tell Danny was mad at himself after the way he talked to Sandy.
I have always loved the vulnerable look he gives Rizzo after Sandy storms off and their eye contact
One of my favorite scene. She got her heart broken😢
and so did he, he just tried to cover it up
Well she did break his heart at the drive in AFTER he screwed up AGAIN. It's kind of a game between them. "Hmmm, how can I get even?" I know that's not the point but after this scene she goes out with Tom, making Danny jealous. Danny winds up having to dance with Cha Cha (to save face). Then at the drive in Sandy is giving the cold shoulder while Danny wants to put his arm around her. So comes in the ring, then the attempted boob grab, attempted make out, his balls getting hit with the door, Sandy running away, and then Danny with a broken heart singing to Sandy. But I think what makes me like, "are you serious?" Is when he is "confused" as to why Sandy ran out of the drive in on him....really, Danny? You attempted to grab her to induce a makeout and then you wonder why she runs away from you? Geeeeee dude.....sorry for the long run down.
@@helpfulreviewer1984 he wasn't the smartest cookie in the bunch
@@russkate88 No, he wasn't. ;)
I feel bad for Tom because Sandy never gave him a chance. She was obviously using him to make Danny jealous because the moment Danny gave her the slightest attention, Sandy dropped Chisum like a bad habit.
It comes to realization that we're all will eventually be in the dead 💀 road, keep in mind, it's not a matter of if, rather a matter of when. R.I P THANKS 😊 🙏 FOR YOUR GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT. GOD BLESS YOUR SOUL 🙏🙏🙏❤❗
The way Sandy's face just lit up when she saw Danny was the cutest I cant

You still here
You can just see the pain in Danny’s eyes.
Serves him right for putting up a front for his friends & hurting her.
"Rockin' and rollin' and whatnot", iconic line from the film. John is so talented as an actor and was sensational as Danny. Olivia was sensational as Sandy and will be missed. Danny's guilt at the 1:06 mark looks authentic. Peer pressure is terrible. RIP, Olivia. You will always be Sandy to us. John, thank you for your kindness to Olivia while filming. This is one of the best adaptations ever of High School life. And the most popular guy in school is faced with one of the biggest challenges ever, choosing between keeping his reputation as the most popular guy that everyone looks up to as the "coolest," or choosing to ditch all that because of how in love he is with this girl. I mean no sarcasm here, that is really a difficult situation to be put in.
I blame High School Musical for making me a fan of Grease
