I was supposed to take delivery of a T120 Bonneville this spring, but I then made the "mistake" of having a go on the dealer's Street Triple RS demo bike...
So a few days later I had to sit down for a chat with the sales representative about a slight alteration to that contract.

Know the feeling when looking at the bikes on offer... my brain, that still operates as if I'm 18 where biking is concerned desires the latest Striple RS...however my 1946 body says otherwise... l guess, like you l will eventually head down the 'classic bike' route.... then a walking frame with ''Gofast Stripes''....

Had the yellow for 3 months now. Get the suspension dialled in for your weight and set it right and it’s plush yet firm. Absolutely perfect and doesn’t get out of shape like my old R. I had the 2018 R previously which has the same suspension and brakes as the new R and its a nice step up I think. My 3rd Street Triple and the best. Yes TFT is same as Tiger but smaller and is the weak point with the bike but it’s a minor disappointment and I owned a Tiger so knew what I was getting 😂 And if all else fails I can just stare at it because in the yellow it looks great to my eyes.

It makes me laugh when people moan about the suspension and the screen . 1 who stares at the screen for hours on end 2 Set the suspension for your weight and 3 the price difference (RS to R ) is negligible, I had a ride on the Street Triple it’s amazing 🤩 9/10 it would be 10/10 but I felt it a little bit cramped

As a side note, if you do commit to include the Street to your garage, there is an anodized brake reservoir as an optional extra for not so much money. Yes, I agree it should be there as standard, as should a radiator cover.

Triumph made this bike lighter than the previous. This was imaginatively done by making the fuel tank smaller, genius!! Either way its a cracker and a great colour too. "I've run out of bottle", the words of an honest man. Thanks again TMF.

I went for the RS for colour choices, brakes, suspension and it just feels more premium. Stock suspension is a bit firm for our bumpy B roads which I normally ride but I changed it to the Triumph comfort settings and now it is plush and just perfect for these roads. @karlosh9286 Рік тому +1

I completely agree the T plane crank is a major mistake. I tried one when they came out , I think about three years ago. It just felt "rough" and "lumpy". Unlike 120 degree "classic" triples.
I could have been vaguely interested in a Tiger 900 , if it had a 120 degree crank and 17 inch front wheel . As it is I'm more interested in a Yamaha Tracer 9 GT , for a 2 up tourer type bike.
If Triumph really wanted to make a twin adventure bike, why not just make a twin ? I guess a bit less effort to just make a silly T plane crank, and matching cam shaft , and keep the existing way of casting of the block. The T plane crank to me is a gimmick.

Great review as always Andy...l did watch the R review...Couple of observations. With the best suspension in the world its still set as a compromise isn't it. l have the suspension set up for Er' spirited riding... but its only relevant for good surface roads... move onto a more agricultural road and it becomes painful.... Coping with UK's bumpy, pot holed roads demands respect...Secondly my Striple was initialy fitted with Pirelli Corsa's. Here in Spain they stuck to the hot roads like they were glued, unfortunately they soon wore out, so now l use Pirelli Rosso Mk 3, which again is a compromise, in cost and possible grip, albeit a small one... The Triumph Street Triple 'IS' the benchmark of the genre, always has been.... l still ride my 2014 version, it's immaculate to look at and rides beautifully... If my pension would run to the latest RS l would do it...

I rode both back to back as well starting with the r. I agree the rs is plusher. I couldn't notice the extra 10 bhp either, you'd have to be reving it high to notice that which I didn't do on the test rides as both bikes only had around 30 miles on them. For me it was the colour /nicer spec and the fact it's my first ever brand new bike that made me opt for the rs.

I'd love your opinion on this compared to a BMW S 1000 R? I had one of them when they came out here in Australia in 2014 and absolutely LOVED that thing. I loved the power, the handling and the ride in general. I did find it could be a very harsh ride on roads that were a pretty old and patched many times but, mostly it was great. I wound up having a very bad accident thanks to a dill launching his 4X4 wagon out into me at 100 kph which has had me too wrecked for too long but now, starting to really want another one but, this is a fair bit cheaper, I'm getting on at near 70 and may not even be able to do the sort of miles I was clocking up before. I know I loved that BMW but maybe this could do the job and be just as exciting? I SHOULD probably be looking at a big tourer but, I have always hated great overfat things with big but sluggish engines, I DO love light, high performance and great handling machines. I also have a completely stuffed left knee so that weight issue comes in to that too.
I am really liking the way this seems to go, despite the hp and torque difference of the BMW having 165 hp and 114 NM of torque compared to this's 121 hp and 79 MN torque which suggest it's probably going to pull pretty darned good at revs but needs those revs to go much more than the BMW. I haven't ridden one of these either so a comparative ride description would be really appreciated, especially considering age and many many injuries suffered over many years of riding and racing.
    Thanks in advance.
EDIT: You quoted 128 HP. Mine figures are from the AU dealership and maybe they're slightly different emissions or state of tune. Odd that they'd differ though. As for riding modes, stuff them. On my S 1000 R I put it in dynamic pro, turned off traction control and anti lock on the rear and kept it like that, rain hail or shine. When new, first rain I tried their silly rain mode and it was so doughy it was difficult to ride in some ways. It's called THROTTLE CONTROL BMW!! Just tell people to ADAPT to conditions!

One thing to correct; the R has separate function Showa BigPistonFork with preload on the left leg and compression and rebound on the right. The RS has upgraded combined function Showa, also BigPistonFork but with adjustments for preload, compression, and rebound on both legs. The RS front fork has more flexibility in adjustment and compliance across road and specially track riding =)

A well balanced review Andy. Excellent.
Your comments about the difference in ride quality between the R and RS are pretty much evident in your early onboard shots, simply by watching the ‘shake’ of your helmet cam. I think it would have to be the relative plushness of the R for me, with my slightly dodgy back

It's got fully adjustsble suspension, including fork preload. You can dial it in to any characteristics you want, and get it set just right for your weight. It's quite firm setup from factory, but you can get it very plush and comfortable, while still being sharp.

As much as the braking is sharp and the rear end under control, it's just too sporty for me pottering around the way I do. I'm still not sold on the look of either of them.
