I can watch these videos all day, you're passion for the vinyl is contagious. The price increase on these pressings once they go out-of-print is simply mind-blowing...
Another wonderfull video - thankyou Michael. I was fortunate enough to see Roy Orbison in concert when he toured here in the early 1970s .. an absolutely wonderfull concert . The audience was an interesting mix of every age, plus a mix of every type, Including full on rockers and Melbourne "sharpies" . Lobby Loyde (Coloured Balls), Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs , Carson and Chain were the usual type of music our "sharpies" were known to prefer. Them being at a Roy Orbison concert supprised me.
Several years ago I picked up Classic Records John Coltrane's One Up One Down. It was a test pressing that was part of the President of Classic Records collection.
Hi Michael 😀. Thank you for adjusting the volume on your channel. Sounds great. That Chet Akins album looks interesting. I am a big fan of his. Back in the mid-sixties my father and I were able to meet him at the RCA Recording Studios in Nashville Tennessee. A wonderful soft spoken gentleman and brilliant guitarist. Best regards, Brian.
Michael very very nice Classic Records collection that Led Zeppelin 3 sounds so amazing I remember buying it when it first came out and running home to spin it so mind blowing and that Quadrophenia so detailed the instruments so clear. I would love to find that Roy Orbison one day and yes it does reminds you of Blue Velvet great song " in dreams ". Nice blue note Bennie Green one I don't have but definitely would buy if I run across it love it Michael take care . Lovellandrew
I am glad I am not the only one who thinks of Lynch and especially Blue Velvet when Roy Orbison is on the turntable! Gives me the shivers too, almost a ghostly/haunting quality to his music. Great selection, and great video.
Yes, drill a new hole it is actually very easy. I would practice with an album you don’t care about first and use a clean drill bit that you size up using a well fitted album. Liking the Led Zep 3. My “Classic Records” plated UHQR Aqualung shipped yesterday.
Hi Michael I have a couple of Classic Records recommendations for you to keep an eye out for: 1. Manassas self titled 2. David Crosby If I Could Only Remember My Name (the 4x45 version is out of this world) 3. Buena Vista Social Club - the Classic Records is by far the best version - they did an 8x45rpm Box edition which is like a religious experience😊
Your collection is amazing. Hendrix rules. That Voodoo Child seems wonderful. I love the album Axis Bold As Love as well. Zeppelin 3 is killer. Tangerine is one of my favorite songs. Random question...what inner and outer sleeves do you use? Take care😊
I thought Classic Records were out of business, I presume Michael you are buying on the secondary market Several years back I had purchased about 25 titles at an audio show in Montreal, they were priced from 15.00 to 25.00 and I thought that was expensive. Little did I know. I primarily bought them for The Who and Led Zeppelin. Then on a recommendation the seller said take these two John Coltrane - Blue Train, Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue. I bought therm reluctantly and I said to him I don't collect jazz, he said you will one day and this is a great starting point. He was obviously correct. I am completely addicted to jazz now. These days it's the only genre I have been buying in volume.
Thanks for the review! Does Bernie Grundmann make mastering in Jimi Hendrix’ box set release? And is there any info about a source - is it from master-tapes? Thanks in advance.
Yes, Classic Records were known for the quality of the sound of their reissues, but not the pressing quality. I heard back in the day of many copies having excessive ticks and pops, off center holes, etc. I bought Led 4 years ago when I saw it in a shop, but didn't play it until a few years ago. Loved the sound, so I sought out Led 2 & 3, as they are my favorites. Found sealed copies for around $200 each, but, oh well, they sound superb!
Hi James, I've got Classic Records box set (200gr)Led Zep l-IV. The sound is so outstanding. My question is, I've got a Classic Records sealed copy of the album 'The Song Remains The Same'. I've had it for awhile and it's still sealed. I'm battling within myself whether or not to break the seal on it. As a mega LZ fan and collector, I fear opening it would cause it's value to go down. Out of curiosity, what might you do with a sealed CR copy? Would you take it out and listen to it or keep it sealed? Thanks.
@@MJEvermore853 I would give it a try. You'll never know until you play it. If it is as superb as all the rest, then you are good. If not, well, you're average isn't too bad. :)
@@MJEvermore853 I also used to think like this. I'm sure there are exceptions where some buyer's just want sealed record, but I logged this comment because I feel there are a lot of other reasons besides the "music is meant to be played" argument (which is still a very good one). The dude from the Too Many Records channel posted this video which changed my mind: ua-cam.com/video/XpI_bWwKn78/v-deo.html It's rare, but I've had flawed and warped new records (we all have), a record with a second sticker pasted over the grooves (= unplayable), limited sets missing ephemera. I think there was an RSD variant of the High Fidelity soundtrack that some people received with the wrong music (from another artist) on one side. One commenter on the aforementioned video referred to this as "Schrodinger’s Record. It’s simultaneously both mint and flawed" lol...the point being until you open it, you never really know. EDIT: I did see that you went ahead and opened sealed copy of the Classic Records 'The Song Remains The Same', it's just that your previous comment is what made me think of that video...post for others with the same dilemma / mentality.
Do you collect any DCC vinyl releases? Enjoy watching all your audiophile pressings.Wish i had some of the classic records but started collecting after they went under.
To make the centre hole bigger what I do is insert one arm of a pair of scissors through the hole and gently turn it half a revolution. Then try fitting the LP on the turntable. If it’s still too tight repeat the process.
It took me until the late 80s to get into Roy Orbinson. I considered him rock for old people but in the 80s he put out an album called Mystery Girl that sucked me in and then I began to look at his back catalog. I have never seen the movie Blue Velvet but I did have the soundtrack. I am surprised there is not more High Fidelity recordings of Hendrix coming out. May e his estate is making that difficult as they really seem to want total control of his music. Okay Ibought that Chet Atkins for the art work. I did not really like it but it was used and not in great shape. Thank you for showing a bunch of little kids some great looking candy. I did buy the JT box set. Enjoy your week Michael. Steve I had a record that was too narrow and I took a sharp knife and put it in the hole and turned it around shaving off some of the vinyl. It worked well and did not damage anything.
Yes. They’re actually produced by Todd Garfinkke. Recorded on location around the world using local artists for the cover photos. They have a lot more CDs than vinyl , but the vinyls are great. www.cnet.com/news/is-it-possible-to-record-the-worlds-best-sounding-music-without-a-mountain-of-gear/
Also glad you like the Classic Blue Notes - they were all valve cut by Bernie Grundman and they sound great. I have around 40 titles and they are all good. For me Bernie Grundman is the mastering guru. Kevin Gray, Chris Bellman, Ryan K Smith, Krieg Wunderlich are all great but a notch below Bernie.
Regarding your hole problem . i've had that on a few newer albums if you just get a drill bit a little bit larger than the hole for me a 9/32(not sure the metric ) you don't even need a drill just work it in by hand and it should open up enough . The drill size would depend on you spindle mine is a Rega
I do agree with the remastered Jimmy Page issues. I bought the full catalog and I am disappointed they do not sound good at all. The classic records or for that matter even the original pressing of the led Zeppelin issues sound much better than the Jimmy Page re-issue
@@Michael45RPM oops i hit enter before i was done... I love that Orbison lp. I didn't know Classic did that one - add it on to the many records you've led me to. I love hearing that reminiscence to David Lynch. I am a huge Lynch fan so that connection is great. I also have the Atkins In Hollywood Classic pressing! Same as you. It's a true gem to be sure. I wish more of Atkins albums were reissued via an audiophile way. I agree 100% on Classic. There are SO many great reissues. If I ever come across one, especially sealed, it's hard to turn away. I've found one seller on Discogs selling a lot of the classical Classic titles. I'll send you the link via email. Happy Sunday evening to you, S and your little guys.
Micheal the issues with the hole too small is something of an issues with many records. You should know that clearaudio (from germany) sells something that looks like a small screwdriver that specific design and sold specific for the issues of holes on records been too small. I believe I paid $50 for it. It was the best buy ever because even many records from Analogue Production the holes are too tight. Look for it
The smooth end of a 7mm drill bit is perfect for the job. Push in and wiggle around slightly will do it. No damage ata all and perfect. Obviously not connected to a drill though 😂

DCC Compact Classics Vinyl Lp's. They did audiophile analogue vinyl pressings in the 80's and are well more known for the DCC gold compact disc's.
