I so love this record. Have been looking for it for years (literally decades.) So rare, and when I do find it it's exorbitantly priced. Pleased to learn it's been unearthed, though still bit pricey as via Analogue Prod. The bass was always fab on here, right up in the mix, which so many jazz albums minimise for some reason.
Herr Michael, your glasses are so German - fashionable, functionable und sturdy. Have you equipped them with mini speakers connected to your sound system via Blue Tooth for the ultimate efficient listening while you're on the go?
Thanks for your inside to the From Scratch albums. I love the Berliner Meister Schallplatten series and these two are on my pile of shame waiting for the listening. After your great review they moved up the ladder 🙂. Always enjoy your review of albums and I am looking forward to the example song from Chico Freeman, that one sounds very interesting but normally I am no avantgarde/free jazz fan so with these names on the rooster I need some listening in before I may buy it.

If you like that Chico Freeman, you could try Cecil McBee Sextet’s Music From the Source and Compassion recordings on Enja label. Amazing music and good sound as well.
As a huge Chico Freeman fan, I would strongly recommend "Beyond the Rain" as well. Elvin Jones is a huge influence of mine, and his drumming on "Beyond the Rain" is some of the best of his career!
zum Glück auch mal einen Monat wo ich überspringen kann, nicht wirklich meine Musik. Stattdessen geht die Kohle aktuell in die Sammlerboxen von Placebo und dort wo es keine gibt halt die Firstpress. Das Album "Without you I´m nothing" als Firstpres von 98 klingt besser als meine Version und schlägt die CD auch allemal, leider waren das 220€ aus der Pulle. Ganz überraschend war dann die RSD PicturePlatte mit dem gleichen Song als Maxi zusammen mit David Bowie, die klingt sogar bei weitem am besten, aber ist Live und das Album ist ja die Studio Version. Leider ist Placebo in einer Zeit groß geworden wo Schallplatte nicht wirklich im Fokus war und geniale Neupressungen gibt es glaube ich auch nicht, dazu sind die CDs auch teilweise nur Durchschnitt. Dennoch ist man 100-200€ los für ne NM/M Firstpress 😪

Amazing album. A crossover with The Leaders band members. All of those Freeman, Oliver Lake & Arthur Blythe albums were so good in that period.

Analogue Productions first released the Chico Freeman album back in 1995. I have the vinyl.
