You killed it. I'm 64, long time surfer, most of my friends have transitioned to sup, and they're still ripping. I've been thinking about making the switch. Great video, very inspiring!

      Hi GtG, thank you!
As a surfer since 1964, I chased waves all over the world, as surfing has been the driving force in my life.
I had zero interest in SUP, although I had no ill feelings, it simply didn't interest me.
Failed rotator cuffs prompted me to get a SUP "just for the little days"
ha ha... I had no idea how much SUP would engage me!
I became a born again Grom at 62 and have love the entire journey!!
I spend much of my time helping people to learn about boards, sizes, volume and which one would be the best option for them.
If you decide to give it a go, the board you choose will make the experience a good one.... or a bad one.
There's a lot of poor advice out there, so use due diligence.
Contact me if you want to get some ideas of where to start

      Hi Arnout,
I ride my bike in high gear, peddling hard and 80% of the time I ride "no hands" because it is easier on my lower back and wrists to sit up straight....
and I never wear a helmet.
Just the carefree, 50's kid in me, I guess.
Plus, my neck really hurts when I fall hard on my back.... some kind of "whiplash" left over when I got rear ended at a red light.
I don't think my neck could endure a heavy wipeout with the added resistance of a helmet.

      Thanks for asking!
      I have had 3 sizes: 8'10, 9'1 and 9'4
The one that works best for me is the size I designed it at; 9'4 x 32 at 148 liters
The Creek just seems to function best for me with in a little bigger size.
I recommend going a size bigger than you would normally think, but that is probably age related.
Younger guys totally rip on the small sizes:

    • @rickweeks
      @rickweeks  Рік тому

      Hi P732
      Thank you for asking!!
It has been a whirlwind of everything housing and nothing SUP!
I bought a "fixer upper" house south of Cocoa, Florida.
ha ha.... more like a total teardown to the floor joists and rebuild.....While I'm living in it!
Plus I'm basically doing it all myself, except for two awesome SUPsters that have been helping me on weekends.
They have been invaluable to me with their knowledge and skills.
I am starting to check cams again, cuz I know I have to get back in the water!!!
But when you have no floors in the whole house.... priorities rule 😆
I think I'll make a surf/Rehab video as soon as I get the entire floor ripped out.
It was 8, yes EIGHT layers of flooring that I had to tear out, and 3 of them were ceramic tile. A beast of a job!

So shocked at how fun SUP was.... after a life dedicated to surfing, I actually never wanted to go back to a prone board.
SUP has been a gift that not only kept me in the surfing game.... I became a born again grom.

I hope you get some clean swell soon and rip it up!
Not sure where my winter will take me.... I don't have a place to stay in sunny Florida this year.
Hopefully see you at some point in the not to distant future.... and get some surf together!!
