It's a nice boat. I prefer cats. They are easier with guests and for the type of cruising that 98% of owners do, its perfect. It also helps that the resale value on cats is higher.
I've gotta wonder why you'd suggest a monohull over a catamaran when you show it heeling like that. It's almost like the primary goal of adding hulls is to prevent heeling because a heeling boat sucks to live on.
because if Bluewater sailing , while unlikely the risk of capsizing might be to great.l if you don't reef soon enough, also surfing down waves can be a hazard. another thing, is overloaded the risk of capsizing increases. a good Bluewater sailboat is just safer.
i like the boat but all the video was showing them about 30 degrees heeling...i hate standing on my ear all day at 72 that is very tiring. On a trip that would get very old in a big hurry.
@@abcgang8048 i'm surprised with all the high tech we don't have something to automatically pay out the main sheet to make the heeling angle less. I have no clue how much more boat speed you can get heeled at thirty degrees.
The question that needs to be answered is "At $500K+ is that the ready to sail away price?" Or do you still have to add another $100K or more to sail away?
Nice boat! Question: Can you do a video on running costs comparison. I know you talk about it here and there but a dedicated video by class size 22 to 80 ft. would be great.
Hey Chris - sounds like we hit the mono hull sweet spot with everything ever needed. It's really a one boat checklist of the best things found on every other vessel. Really love it. I am going to study the Shiitake out of it and keep it as my new ultimate. Thanks as always for your insight & expertise.
Since the Annapolis sailboat show, I have been sold on the Beneteau Oceanis line and the Jeannau. After watching this particular video and doing a little more research I will make sure I get aboard a Defour, and a Moody DS before I pull the trigger on any deal.
The Moody I saw there was very nice and seaworthy/strong feeling for sure, but the space of the Dufores was over the top from what I saw there this year.. Cant wait for next!
I know you hate the living quarters length vs overall length.... But I'll stick to Island Packets for fulltime living and open ocean travels..... Not a fan of bolt on keels.... Plus I like American over engineered designing.
Capsize rating means absolutely nothing, capsize rating doesn't even take into account location of keel, type of keel, hull type, weight, nadda, useless measurement
I saw this boat at Annapolis as well. It was amazing. And I think you're right, cost-wise it is comparable to a 40 foot cat. I thought the Dufour was also priced very well for this size of boat. Nicely equipped versions of this boat list for the mid $700k new.
But but but, the 40’ cat doesn’t require the user to live life at an angle…. Waaaaaa Someone for sure is thinking about this as the benefit to the cat over the 470. The 470 would make a wonderful family cruiser! 😁⛵️
I need for you to make more content. I mean, churn in out bro. Otherwise, I'll need to pay for your patreon, sail with you and hire you... I'd rather the free content though.

I have no idea why you are such a fanboy of this boat. And what is so unusual about a 15' beam?
Please change the title to Dufour advertisement. its misleading
He's not kidding - the Dufour 470 is ENORMOUS. Makes you wonder if it will fit in a slip....
It's huge right lol

@@jefftroy1 Wild right, that DuFour 47 was something else
Does it have also a cabin in the bow? For crew?
Yes it does
Within the Dufour line, I liked the 520 more, it offers more than the 470 and because it is used, it is much cheaper and more complete.
I was at the Annapolis show too - I was so impressed with all of the Dufours - and this one? just gorgeous
Yeah they were really nice
I liked the Dufour 470 a bit better than the Beneteau 46.1. Loved them both but if I had to choose it would be the Dufour 470 in a heartbeat.
Thanks so much! Wow boat; how would Dufour 47’s compare in order to fit a more moderate budget?
What would it cost approximately to purchase one in Europe and flag here in the U.S.? Import fees
Thanks for the video today, really clarified and answered my question!
Did you write the wrong title??
Thought you didn't like teak decks?
I hate them
can you cover their smaller ones? that was lovely...
Yes sir , will do

Get what works best for you
that crew cabin would be great my my stepson and nephew. could bring both brother in laws family and mother in law. awsome boat
💯Agreed. The Dufour’s at the show were awesome. Really love the midship split galley concept.
yeah I didn't think I would like it but I actually love it
Impressive!! I’d imagine 500k range to start
Dufour is really knocking it out of the park!😃👍👏👏👏
Chris, go test out a Garcia 45 ft. explorer, and let us know.
I meant to at the show but couldn't find it
@@ChasingLatitudes Damn! 😡
Awesome vid! Thx
Thank you for watching

Wow what a boat but way out of my price😜😜🤙
Mine too

$700k 😳
Wonder what the insurance rate is …
@@vvm101 You ask a good question. Insurance is high for everything these days and I fear this hurricane season with increase that more.
This is just an advertisement full of superlatives
