I saw Gary Ritchrath play at The Button South in Broward Co. in 1990 or so. I was really sad about something and he looked out at me and in between playing those incredibly complex guitar notes, he managed to put each hand up to his face in a mime fashion like, come-on, smile! I will never forget that.
He made it a goal to join this band I'm late 1970, and soon after REO Speedwagon got attention of Epic Records and then the released their self-titled debut album in 1971, and it wouldn't've been possible without Richrath. May he rest in Peace
Listened to this song at least 1,000 times over in the the midst of breaking up with my 1st long term girlfriend. She is the mother of my only child and absolutely ripped my heart out. 💔
You can play it. I learned guitar from UA-cam. Carl brown and Marty Schwartz have almost every classic rock song lesson that you can think of available
Gary was the guitar god. The sound. Without Gary there would never NEVER been a Kevin or an REO SPEEDWAGON. All talented but fact are facts. Just watch him! He is a true Rock Star. RIP guitar slinger
Fck auto tune, it’s as bad as Fckn Milli Vaniilli Lip syncing BS fake artists, fake music for the dollar and lack of true talent like these guys and this era, end of
Never. Pretty much the best ever. For dance, pop, rock. Every genre crossed over. You could have everything. I am a proud Mother for raising kids who love this song now and they are 33!! ❤❤❤
Take It On The Run and My Sharona had two of the greatest guitar solos in a song in the 80's. Solo's that stick in your head and add to the songs highs
I am drinking beer and I totally agree. Add "Refugee" and "Heartbreaker" to the mix and we could talk all night. We may not agree on everything but good music is f**king awesome 😢
This was one of Gary Richrath's most played songs. REO wasn't the same after he left and we lost one of the most talented guitarists when Gary died. Just listen to their live album!
Happen to notice Gary's guitar solo and the pic slide!....RSpeedwagon doesn't compare to what they were when they had Gary. The LIVE album, let's just say it speaks for itself. Nuff said! R&R
I heard an interview with him, where he stated that he left, because there was no room for his guitar or song ideas anymore. They enjoyed the pop hits they had in the mid to late 1980s. They all got rich and forget about the more rockin' aspects to their music. @@oldmanJ
great song please check out R.E.O Speedwagon Album Reviews from their 1971 Debut Album , R.E.O Two , Ridin`the Storm Out and Lost in a Dream Album Reviews on my channel
REO Speed wagon, Foreigner, Fleetwood Mac , the Eagles are examples of great live performers of the 80s that stand the test of time. That’s why I and millions of followers still listen to their music. They simply don’t get old. Rock on baby!!!
Hard to believe it’s been what 35 years since this release OMG a band who could write sing and rock!!! Gary was SO underrated just like their keyboard player. You knew from the FIRST note it was REO
Gary Richrath was such a great guitarist. Highly underrated. I'm so glad that I got to live through the 80's. We had the best music then with bands like REO, Styx, Queen, etc.
What we have here folks is a perfect live performance from real musicians, no auto tune, programming or modern day bullshit. Another great band from yesterday years still on the radio today. RIP GR 😢
That song is a perfect example of why those of us that grew up in the 80's..Says 80's Rock was the best generation of music of all time & we'll go to our graves arguing otherwise..
I couldn’t agree more and i was born in 2007, 80's rock is the greatest generation of music of all time, i’ve never listened a minute of my generation’s type of music, i’ve always sticked with 70's and 80's music since i was young💪🏽
I was cheated on back years ago, played this song in my car while snorting and drinking... I'm grateful for songs like this that made my healing process so much quicker. Due to the help I've received, I've been able to engage in a super healthy relationship. GOD IS GOOD :)

Boy, fantastic REO sings the heck out of this great song, and that drummer goes to town on those drums! Never saw this wonderful video until today, in 2023.
I’ve always said he’s been an underrated guitarist. His solos were always perfect. And this is coming from someone born in the mid 80s. I’ve heard them all thanks to you tube and I stand by what I said.
Damn, that Gary Richrath guitar solo!

Hopefully you smiled every since.
Wow, so cool!
Gary was a very beautiful soul.
Gary Richrath NEVER gets his due. His guitar riffs FOREVER changed music.

One of the best ever!
Gary Richrath was so under-appreciated.
Amazing guitar solo there. Not overdoing it, Just perfect. RIP brother!
Great comment aks
Mr Gary Richrath
He's not far short of Dave Gilmore's Comfortably Numb solo.
I'm sure both have induced many MANY orgasms! (Holds lighter up!)

The guitar solo on Roll With The Changes is also bad ass.
Gary Richrath, what a guitar player!! RIP

I guess you can say she…took it on the run.
The cheater's anthem. One of REO's best tracks 💯
Nice seeing Gary Richrath playing the guitar. I think he wrote this song.
80's MUSIC NEVER DIES !
Will never die
Long love the 80’s music- certainly kills what’s pushed out these days 😊
It never will...............................
You're ABSOLUTELY CORRRRRRRECCCTT....
Gary Richrath was an amazing song writer and guitarist !!!!! Love you always Gary , we'll never forget !
RIP Gary Richrath
Love it. The good ole' days. How can't you relate to nearly every song.
One of the greatest, and most underrated, guitar solos of all time. One of those I’d give anything to be able to play.
It's not very difficult except for that last note go for it
Very good solo. Nice wide vibratos, almost Schenker like. A solo like this was not common on those types of pop sounds. Great crescendo in there.
Gary Richrath was such an underrated guitar god. And gone much too soon. R. I.P.
This and evh beat it solo are favorite of all time!
You can play it. I learned guitar from UA-cam. Carl brown and Marty Schwartz have almost every classic rock song lesson that you can think of available

Great song! Gary's guitar playing was phenomenal.
Look ! Real Music and even instruments without autotune!!!
Hi Cindy how are you
A brilliant band sound live just as good as on their CD's...RESPECT REO Speedwagon...no Autotune bullshitt. The real deal.
They don't do it like this anymore.
@@donnaleeclubb119 They haven't since 1989 either. Gary is gone!
RIP Gary!!!
This is nothing compared to that bullshit. Aha ha bailamo nos enredamo ay bamo. Fuck blow jay balvin.
Love REO. Listening lockdown October 2021.

One of my favorite guitar solos... RIP Gary!
I’m 34 but never heard this Reo song. But better late than never. Another addition to my playlist!
Wow, that's a real bummer, this is some of his best stuff 🎸
Good lord...how did you go this long without ever hearing this master piece 😮😮
My nephew is 20, he has known this song forever! but better late than never.
R.I.P. Gary one of the greats.
RIP Gary 🤘🏽

Agree 1000%
1982 I moved to Sender knowing that you 😜
I think using My Sharona in the same sentence with this song is an INSULT to REO Speedwagon!!
Two great ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was one of Gary Richrath's most played songs. REO wasn't the same after he left and we lost one of the most talented guitarists when Gary died. Just listen to their live album!

Am I correct saying Gary was asked to leave?
@@oldmanJ I can't speak from a position of authority, but I read that he left the band.

This song was and still sounds awesome!
Is this a dream? Are these actual musicians playing musical instruments? Wow!
Love the highly precise drummer mic movement. Flawless….
By far, the best version of this song. There's even a coolness of it not being in HD.

REO Speedwagon, along with Journey, are the pioneers of the power ballad.
Love Gary's solo. It slays
Gary Richrath was REO Speedwagon never the same after he left RIP Gary we miss you
amazes me how a few guys get together, form a band, and write hit after hit after hit.... true talent!
You're talkin´ about the Beatles, right? :-)
well, i wasnt, but yeah, them too!
Spinal Tap, obviously.
@Ima Noseycow OMG.....DO NOT BE SACRILEGIOUS to the MASTERS!!!
I hope their masters weren't burned up, in 2008, because of Universal's incompetence
Can’t wait to see REO Tomorrow!
Gary shredding! 🎸 2:07 😊
Rest in Peace to REO Speedwagons legendary Lead Guitarist Gary Richrath.
Gary ,, one of my favorite guitar players ,
what a awesome song for sure
Hard to believe it’s been what 35 years since this release OMG a band who could write sing and rock!!! Gary was SO underrated just like their keyboard player. You knew from the FIRST note it was REO

Wow how refreshing that there were bands that were actual muscians...great to see a real band actually playing live music.....awesome guys.
What we have here folks is a perfect live performance from real musicians, no auto tune, programming or modern day bullshit. Another great band from yesterday years still on the radio today. RIP GR 😢
This was also the 9th song played, and the 1st ever concert video to be played on MTV's debut.
I totally agree, it has to be relaxing, in the moment of a high and a reason to keep you listening, listen how tight all these old bands are.... Wow
Yeap🎼❤️❤️
Things old people say.
But just because your old doesn't mean you don't know good music. ✊respect
Definitely mate no auto tune pure
Such an unbelievably beautiful lead by Gary Richrath. What a beautiful human being.
This version’s fast tempo is so much nicer than the original studio release version. Love it!
I remember when this song came out in the 80s and I still love it today as I did back then
I love hearing Gary live! He’s still one of my favorite guitarists. The bass comes in great too. Miss him
One of the best guitar solos for Speedwagon number 1...! then maybe Keep on Loving you a Speedwagon anthem!
I didn't realise that I know 3 songs by this group ☺️☺️☺️
That song is a perfect example of why those of us that grew up in the 80's..Says 80's Rock was the best generation of music of all time & we'll go to our graves arguing otherwise..
80s rock and 90s grunge and I was born in 2004.
I couldn’t agree more and i was born in 2007, 80's rock is the greatest generation of music of all time, i’ve never listened a minute of my generation’s type of music, i’ve always sticked with 70's and 80's music since i was young💪🏽
Pretty much everything up until they started "cheating" when recording.
Too many bands now that can't reproduce their studio sounds live
You’re totally right !!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🤩🤩🤩
No man 90's grunge era with BUSH Smashing Pumpkins Nirvana etc beats it lol sorry that was the best era for music.
My favorite album of all time. Memories. I was in sanfrancisco in those days...i liked this one more than the one Journey put out
REO is my fav band. Been listening for 40 yrs!! Here’s to 40 more!!!!

BEST SINGERS U SAW THAT NIGHT
Absolutely lucky you!! I'd Love to see them in VA
Wow, just incredible. To recreate this song live is something special.
See kids, once upon a time there were mythical musicians who actually wrote their own songs, played their instruments, and didn't use autotune.
Amen!
God bless the 80s and 90s.
"Legends" is the word you are looking for, buddy.
Tengo 13 años y me gusta mas reo speedwagon, survivor y michael jackson que ver a bad bunny
Promise there are still singer/songwriters out there!
They kill this, Kevin and Gary pretty much note-perfect live
Awesome....Grew up listening to these boys, in Champaign, IL. Still listening!
the guitar solo on this song is monumental ....gary was an amazing guitarisat
You know you're a rock star when your solo ends with pick slide that drops panties faster then an over-filled bladder.
And he wrote this hit !!
This is my very first time hearing Gary Richrath and I'm with you 1,000% on the solo......
So blessed to have grown up with this music! Before things got weird.
2022 at age 26 and this song hurts me to the deepest part of my soul. So beautiful though.
Talk is cheap when the story is good ❤️
R.I.P. Gary Richrath
His guitar sound was a huge part of the REO sound and sadly missed
great song please check out R.E.O Speedwagon 1971 Debut Album Review and many more videos on my channel

RIP My old friend. You were one of the best. I miss those old times of using my 1960 Olds station wagon to try and cram all your gear in.
This has always been a classic in my book. A fantastic group
Go on Gary R!!! What a superb track.I remember when it came out,yes I am that old! 🤣👍

They were a really good band in the 70s.
The guitar solo by Gary is one of my all time favorites. 💖
what a great drinking song for real people
RIP Gary Richrath, the writer of this song "Take It On The Run". Your unique guitar sound & playing is sorely missed. 🤘

God, this electric guitar tone is exquisite.
(Another) Killer guitar solo from Gary, great vocal from Kevin

AWESOME SONG, THE LYRICS. ITMAKE ME CRAZY, SO GOOD!!!!!!!!
The drummer sings on the mike! How rare.... BTW the drummer and the frontman look the same! :-o
One of my ALL TIME favorite bands. My sister was lucky enough to go see them in France back in the 80s. Wish I was.
🎵Bruce Hall is a grand bassist🎶
🎼Gary always made their ballads powerful🎸.
