Lyrics:
I've been around for you
I've been up and down for you
But I just can't get any relief
I've swallowed my pride for you
I've lived and lied for you
But you still make me feel like a thief
You got me stealin' your love away
'Cause you never give it
Peeling the years away
And we can't relive it
I make you laugh
And you make me cry
I believe it's time for me to fly

This song went through my head a thousand time when I ended a relationship
My father passed away and I found out today. This was his favorite song. Will be playing it loudly for him graveside. He was old school and died on his own terms. He built a table a couple years ago and carved speedwagon lyrics into with his knife. I’ll miss my best friend
🕊️💗🙏💗🕊️
I'm so very sorry for your loss 🙏🕊️🙏
I'll be praying for you and your family 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️
Sorry for your lost may He RIP.. 😢😢😢😢❤
I am very sorry for your loss. Your Dad had great taste in music. He’s singing this now!
So sorry for your loss bro 😢😢
So sorry for loss
This imo is one of the best songs for breaking up with someone that is just taking you for granted. The words are perfect.
This song is really great, It makes u ask ur self questions, when u feel taken for granted. I have felt this way a few times, and we broke up. The last breakup, was a 20 year marriage.
BUT LISTEN TO THE ROCK, OMGOSH!!!!!! THEY ARE AWESOME, RIGHT IN THERE WITH THEIR MUSICAL TALENT, VOCAL TALENT. AMAZING. REO, IS THE MASTERPIECE... ROCK ON !!!!😂😊
There is a song by Tony Bennett.
The good life (I wanna be around).
If you do karaoke and she's in the audience, it's the perfect song!
Get it, kid
Yes indeed and that is precisely what I did to this song in 1981 - she was my first love but this is exactly what she was doing, taking us for granted! We had broken up and gotten back together and broken up and I was done and this song came on... and I said this sums up what I need to do!
I get it, sweetheart..I am sorry. Somehow this effects and affects our view of the proceeding interactions with the world. God Bless, kid, that could not have been easy to relive ❤😂😂😂😮
.
I mean, these were actual musicians that played together live and sounded phenomenal. Reo Speedwagon is one of the best bands of all time.
I worked their show at Piere's in Fort Wayne as the liaison. They were freaking hysterical I have all kinds of memorbilia❤😂
Criminally under rated
Yet no rock and roll hall of fame smh
Agree 100% saw them many times in the 1970's and 1980's. ❤❤
As a 🇨🇦… This is one of my favourite ballads (definitely a breakup song), back in 80/90’s I think…
Man I'll tell you...Kevin Cronin is one of the most underrated voices of rock and roll. He's a national treasure.
I look at all the list and he’s never in there .. rigged !
Agreed! His vocal range is phenomenal!
I agree Kevin is underrated. In general REO isn’t given the credit they’re due. It didn’t get any bigger than these guys at the height of their career. Fantastic band.
So Fnnnnn, True

You Can Tune a Piano But You Can't Tuna Fish is one of the more clever album titles ever. My maternal Grandfather that couldn't give a rip about REO Speedwagon loved that!
This band's story, REO Speedwagon, is actually an iconic rock and roll re-telling of "The Little Engine That Could".
From day one, they never, ever, EVER gave up, even in their darkest moments. When I was a kid, barely 9 years old, the local music store in the town I grew up in, had "bargain bin" sales, 50 cents, 75 cents, or a buck - for opened, unsold records that honestly, the store couldn't GIVE away in most cases. One record that looked kinda cool on its cover, was a half-bucker titled "This Time We Mean It". I didn't comprehend why an album by any rock and roll artist would be titled as such back when I was that young, but I still wanted to hear it. In time, that same artist would eventually have at least one more quirky project title, something about "tuna fish"...
Back to "This Time We Mean It" - to the public in general, there was an insane, world record breaking amount of just plain non-interest it seemed. It truthfully, hardly sold at all. But a few songs on that album, namely "Reelin'" and "Candelera" ... I can still hear in my head plain as day - they had an awkward 'catchiness' to them (IMHO).
And maybe, the core of the band knew it too, because they kept on trying, until songs started to get more airplay, and then 1980 rolled around and this "little band that could" - REO Speedwagon (with a few changes in personnel, notably their lead vocalist), would eventually come to unleash their world‐dominating masterpiece called "High Infidelity" ... and the train had reached the top of the mountain finally, as HI was the biggest selling album released that year, globally.
It's what you get if you follow your heart and nothing else, and you believe in yourself, not caring who else does, and not being discouraged by the masses who never did.
"TIME FOR ME TO FLY" is a gem, one of my favorites, and it almost seems the band just 'lights right up' when they perform it live. It's a testament to the glory of this band, their deserved success, and their rightful place among remembered icons of a bygone era, making ANY gen-X-er out there think, know, and believe that old catchphrase, "They just don't make 'em like this any more."
Of that, I have zero doubt, and this all comes from a piano player of 40 years in the music business, and not ONCE did I ever tune a piano, and I'm not a fan of tuna either, while I'm at it.
The point is ... nothing. Nothing at all. It DOESN'T MATTER.
Kudos, REO Speedwagon. 💯
My fav REO tune. Back when musicians had to have talent. No autotune, no gimmicks. Just pure talent.
Hello Teresa.. how are you doing?

I'm in a nursing facility recovering from a broken hip and subsequent hip surgery! Sitting here trying not to dance in my chair. It's hard!
"I've had enough of the falseness of a worn out relation, enough of the jealousy and intoleration, I make you laugh, and you make me cry. I believe it's time for me to fly." Goddamn, that's all time best songwriting.
It’s amazing
Greatness !
Wonderful
I believe it was the song, "Roll with the Changes", that first caught my attention with REO. I thought, damn. Those white boys can write.
And we can't relive it!
I have seen a lot of bands live and I can honestly say that reo is one of a very few that sound just as good live as they do on albums.

My very first concert was REO Speedwagon, 1980, New Orleans Super Dome. This brings back so many amazing memories, what I wouldn't give to be 16 years old again.

Yep, but I've been listening to REO Speedwagon since Ridin' The Storm Out (1973). They were the first concert I ever went to, Mar, 13, 1981 at Hampton Coliseum in VA, the Hi Infidelity tour. I was in the navy stationed in Norfolk. April Wine and 707 were the openers. Good concert.

One of the best songs Kevin Cronin ever wrote...and it took 10 years to finish it!
Such a masterpiece. Back when bands actually cared about the music. But the best part about music back then is the fact that you could understand every word they say. I'm 52 now and not a day goes by that I don't think about how nice it would be to go back to these days.

YA GODAMN RIGHT!!!!!!!!
THAT´S RIGHT MY FRIEND I´M ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU
You are absolutely right!!!!
Not to be argumentative.. b'c I agree with you about today's music sucking!! It sucks. So.... so bad. But it isn't a dearth of talent. The talent is everywhere. It's the garbage-dump crap music that we are programming the youngsters with now, and the garbage that main-stream media and society is pushing now. The younger ones don't have a clue about how it used to be - and how we waited for this incredible music to come out. Man... we loved it. We lived it. It's so sad now, to see where it has all gone. I hope the good stuff will come back. REO was, and still is, such an awesome band, with great songs that live forever!
The 70’s and 80’s CLEARLY had the best music.

They are very well known all around. More kids today can recognize an REO power ballad faster than they can stairway to heaven. I'm dead serious. Kids know their songs.
No lip sync, no auto tune.... just real musicians....
Auto tune when used properly isn’t a crutch, it’s merely pitch correction. And it’s rarely used live with rock and metal acts today.
You can be a phenomenal vocalist and still benefit from it because simply put: stuff in perfect key sounds better.
I will agree that the guys using it for vocal effects or actually using it to sound good are just dumb.
Minus Gary and Alan
