    Considering how hard it is to even see a new Colt It feels like the last one they sold was to Bat Masterson ordered from his letter from Dodge city to them. It really drives me crazy how an iconic American brand like Colt who should own the single action market doesn't produce them.

      I look at it this way… since everything is “ how much money could I make “, Colt evidently feels like there just isn’t enough in it for them compared to everything else they make . The Old West is dead folks- has been for a long, long time . No matter how one might feel about trying to recreating it , just remember , the DOLLAR is king !

      @@maryconrad3168 American nostalgia for the West is far from dead. Colt just doesn't want to price competitively. Kinda like they still sell 1911s but they are so overpriced that i don't know a single 1911 owner who actually has one.

I used to be an exclusive semi auto guy but you and my father in law really got me going on these SAAs. Not sure what the magic is, maybe it’s the Americana in them but I love shooting them, holding them, cleaning them and even loading them is fun. • @dannyproctor4956
    @dannyproctor4956 6 років тому +10

    @hickok45, I suspect the reasoning behind the aligning of the screws has to do with "attention to detail" when building this pistol. An electrician told me that if the electrician aligns the screws on all the cover plates that you can be sure he wired a particular project correctly and that he will surely be rehired again by the contractor and others. Hence, Quality over Quantity. Your Vids are the greatest!

    Upon finding out the price (1895 bucks) I had to google the brand.
    Seems legit, CNC`ed 4140, bone & charcoal color case hardened, handfitted (not just assembled by hand, but perfectly fitted and timed parts, just like Colt does them).
    It is very apparent that for 1900 bucks, you get what you pay for.

    • @SCSlimBoiseID
      @SCSlimBoiseID 6 років тому +1

      +ToreDL87 The cost of a new, basic Colt Model P in 1873 was around $12.00, or two week's pay for an average buckaroo. That $12.00 translates into around $252.00 in today's money. Clearly, buckaroo pay has outstripped general devaluation of the currency over the past 145 years, but so has the cost of well-made sixguns. Not too many buckaroos are making $2,000 every two weeks these days. One constant remains pretty much intact, though - now as then, you get what you pay for. If I had the bucks to spring for one of the STD .45s, I'd do it. Looks like a beautiful replica of classic Americana.

      jerryw66 Because this gun here may well be the best SAA ever produced. Right now if you choose Colt over Standard, you're choosing name and a pony image only. You certainly can't proclaim quality as the deciding factor. For many, the pony is enough. But if you want the very best, this here just may be it, and it's priced the same EXCEPT you can buy the damn thing unlike a Colt which everyone scalps for a $500 premium after it leaves Colt. Distributor and dealer both take their extra cuts before a buyer purchases a new SAA in the $2200 range. How can you not buy this over a new production Colt? Especially when rumors are they may well not even be making the SAA anymore for the time being.

    • @tccoup355
      @tccoup355 6 років тому +3

      It has fixed sights and shoots left. That's a deal breaker for me. They should have got it shooting straight before letting it out the door. My Cimarron model p shoots point of aim, looks beautiful, fit and finish is perfect and it cost me $530.00 when I bought it 7 years ago. I have several thousand rounds through it with zero problems. The only reason to spend big bucks for a peacemaker is if it's for an investment.

      Right on fellow revolver enthusiast. Me personally I prefer single action over double action. Can't beat the feel of a single action trigger. Saa have less components, less problems will occur. Also when a double jams its over, when a single jams, with some extra added effort you can manually operate its functions.

    • @eclipsegst9419
      @eclipsegst9419 Рік тому

      @@ihitwrongbutton194 I would say that the saying that "nothing gets the first shot on target as fast as a SAA" holds true. The ergonomics of the thing are so good, it really is like pointing a finger. And it cocks so easily with such excellent hammer placement that for the first shot, that's not even a factor. It's cocked before its halfway out of the holster.

Got elephant ivory grips, they have to have tape on the inside wood piece so they are not loose...then the serial number is not straight on the frame...Can’t think right off but what’s on the left side of the frame year or whatever it is is not printed deep enough or the same depth I should say... had to have cylinder re-nickel once already because the nickel flaked off...after shooting a few times. At least they didn’t charge for the re-nickel. But for $3400.00 I think it was I was disappointed. I think I would definitely look at this Standard manufacturing if I was wanting to get a SAA

    Hi Hickok, Bought mine today 7.5 bbl. Simply beautiful, the color case hardening beats late model Colts hands down. This gun is made for the person who wants the best in the SAA genre. Will look nice in a custom rig. Your one reason why i bought the Standard Mfg SAA. I value your judgement with SA and thanks for your episode on this wonderful handgun. 👍

    Back in the late 1800's, buffalo bones, leather and shed antlers were used with charcoal from fallen hardwood trees to make color-casehardening. Lots of hides were used, worn out leather from drive belts that were used by machinery. The dynamo or steam engines used leather belts to motivate work stations such as lathes, drill stands, overhead fans etc. The belts wore out and were repurposed...

    Another absolutely perfect Colt clone is the Uberti Cimmeron Colt Bisley clone in .45 Colt. It is so beautifully machined and finished that Colt could subcontract Uberti to build them for them and Colt could put their original markings all over it and nobody would know that you were looking at a Uberti-made product. I know Colt wouldn't do this, but Uberti's Bisley clone is indeed that stunning in fit, finish and CRISP mechanical function.
    Contact Cimmeron Arms and get them to send you one. Trust me, it'll make your jaw drop. I'll never part with mine. If Colt still made a Colt Bisley, Gen. II, I would have opted for a Colt Gen. II Bisley, but a modern one was not, and is not available. Uberti's remake is so perfectly done that it's parts are interchangeable with the original should you need to replace a broken original part; which is almost impossible to find anymore. Anyway, check one out if your hands are comfortable with the Bisley Target grip. Many latter 19th century lawmen switched to the Bisley due to it's wide target trigger, wide curved-back, deeply knurled hammer spur and glass rod light trigger break (like Uberti's Bisley in .45 Colt). I would be real interested in seeing your review on that Colt clone.

    Sir Hickok, can you do a review on another single action revolver? Specifically, a Cimarron .357 magnum ?!?! Something that is a bit more in budget for most of us US Citizens....not too pricey. They're also made in color cased hardening as well!!! Thanks!!!

    The Grips are PURPOSELY made a little oversized. Quite common on Colts also and even Custom Grip Makers do that - including Dan Chesiak who made grips for Colt for many many years!

    I enjoy watching your videos , I watch them all the time your very informative on the guns enjoy watching you shoot them . On the one video on cleaning saa you was talking and did say not good to leave to much oil in the barrel possible high pressure . With to much oil can burn the edge of the lands causing premature ware on the edge and loosing accuracy. The cylinder, in the chambers with excessive amounts of oil , the brass cartridges when ya shoot and it won’t expand the brass can’t grip the chambers and there for can cause high pressure, thank you for reading

    New Britian is right down the road from Colt so you are probably correct in assuming that they have quite a few Colt craftsmen working there. They do make a quality product.

    I finally bought a Uberti Smokewagon Deluxe from Taylor's & Company last year instead of continuing to save for a Colt SAA. I'm glad I did it. It is a great Colt replica and I was pleasantly surprised by the fit and finish even before factoring in the price. I don't see any reason for going the Std. Mfg. route over the Uberti other than being made in the USA.

    I like how these came out not long after Uberti defeated their own purpose by messing with the lockwork. People bought Ubertis for the fairly true to design inner workings without having to pay the price for a Colt. They changed the hammer to have a retractable firing pin and only 3 clocks. If I want a safetied-up single action, I'd just buy a Ruger so I'd have a much easier time finding grips, closer to drop-in parts, etc. If I want a good Colt clone, it's either this or a used Uberti from before 2017 or so.

    Standard Manufacturing is growing on me. They make AR rifles as well. I was surprised at all the nice features it had. Everything properly staked, the BCG had material milled out to make it lighter and to function better while dirty, better than average furniture, and a few other things that made it seen a little nicer than an average AR-15. I originally just looking for an AR with a railed gas block because I moreless wanted a carbine style rifle, but with a flip front sight instead of the classic A. Standard Manufacturing just happened to be selling a rifle with a railed gas block that was also level with the upper and I found it on sale. Sorry for ranting. I I just really like Standard Manufacturing. All the guns they produce seem to be great quality.

    Hickok, if that gun shoots a little to the left, Mike Venturino says there's an easy fix. Take the ejector rod housing and cylinder off, put the barrel in a vice (with a properly cut piece of wood to protect the finish), and put a length of a cut-to-size or 2x4 in through the frame gap (where the cylinder goes) and (using leverage) turn the frame clockwise in relation to the barrel (screwing in the barrel) just a hair. Reassemble and test it out. Do this till you've gotten the point of impact dead center of point of aim.
