- Fort Godwin was a coastal battery built to defend the ports along the Humber estuary. It opened in 1915 and was constructed for two 9.2-inch breech-loading Mark X guns.
The battery was in use throughout the First World War and kept in use during the inter-war period. The battery was modified during the Second World War. In 1940 it was equipped with a 4-inch Mark IX gun on naval mountings and a new pair of searchlights.
The battery was kept for use after the war. By 1995 the strongpoint, coastal artillery searchlight and gun emplacement had been destroyed. The gun aprons had both collapsed, half lying on the beach, half on the cliff top but highly unstable.

Thank You for Watching :)
Excellent little video, Andy. That's some hefty slab of concrete, wedged right there. Came off clean, as well. Wouldn't try my luck going under it.
The door frame seemed to have been painted in Light Mediterranean Blue, but colour shifting on 80-ish year old pieces always makes it tricky to find out exactly. And very rarely people go for a walk on the countryside with a British Standard or Methuen color chart in their back packs. 🤣
Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it and it sure is a big lump of concrete to be held up with friction :O
I had indeed forgot to take my color chart with me lol
Fascinating as always Andy 👍🏼😊
Thank You Nick :)
like the water cooling for the ashpan of the stove Andy! 8^) Liked the video. Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it Jeff :)
Ah of course :) we don’t want the ash pan to overheat 😅
3:26 they look like barb wire stakes.
Ah yes that makes sense :) thanks Anthony
