Still here in this tutorial after reaching 7k mmr. I realized I still so much have to learn in dota. Its fun to see how others see approach heroes and situations.
As a 6.5k mmr midplayer i see this video very great not only for lower mmr players but for everyone that likes midrole Learnt and fixed my thaughts on many scenarios on midlane thanks a lot.
I am actually an immortal player that wants to switch to mid from pos 4 and this is golden advice. Thank you for the guide it includes so many useful tips for laning and matchups!
The "knowing when to farm and when to fight" sounds similar to what I'd always told myself which was "itemize to not die", but a bit nicer. Also known about the range creep giving vision to aggro for a while, but never seen anyone share it, so that's cool. Thanks for the awesome video, it was long but wish it was longer!
I would suggest not always building "not to die" this reads like playing not to lose. The endgoal of the game is killing the ancient which is made easier by killing heroes. Topson is so famous for his builds and playstyle because he rather kills than survives, thats why had THE most deaths among midplayers TI8, literally THE most, but guess who won TI8, Topson. Becuase he created so much chaos and killings in situations that should be "tame"
Thank you, I used to play mid back in 2013 but the game has changed so much since then, I tried playing mid again a few times recently and I got absolutely destroyed in lane. I knew I needed a guide on how to play mid in 2023, and this is exactly what I was looking for. It's great that you include a mixture of general information (like how to choose a hero) and concrete tips like what starting items to buy or how to check if the enemy has a ward. I will watch this video and try to learn as much as I can.
This video helped me out a ton. I only play mid and I've been going on a lose streak. I haven't done much research since this patch and this helped put some things back into perception for me
Thank you pain, i hit immortal a month or 2 ago and dropped 600-1k mmr in 2 weeks. I just wanted to thank you for all your thaughts and input. It has helped me achieve immortal :)
Good guide very useful for new players. One thing I'll say for aggro is if the enemy is missing you can global aggro creeps by using enemy icons at the top of the screen this will allow you to aggro creeps when a hero isn't there
Super dense and informative. Very good work. I havent finished the video yet but so far the glaring lack of invoker mentions is somehow both a brilliant troll and great advice 😅 I learned more about the game than any other period learning invoker, but also completely tanked my MMR. Invoker is by far the most flexible mid, and can fit into virtually any of the categories presented in this video.
Really grateful for this! I am a mid player myself, around 3.5k mmr. Feel like I'm a bit stuck, as I tend to throw games often. Thus, I am trying to "relearn" the mid lane, and this really helps me out!
this guide was incredibly useful. I have only 20 games of dota but I win most of my lanes, the only problem is that I struggle after laning phase. Maybe a video focused on that would help other ppl as well
hey! i love your videos and have been starting to re-learn dota again after playing very infrequently for a long time. one small criticism i'd offer to keep in mind is that you sometimes make assumptions about what enemies will do that aren't very accurate in MMR brackets below 4k or so. things like enemy midlaners blocking, or enemy supports rushing to ward the river, and mid heroes always picking last, aren't really very applicable in my experience, since everyone is less skilled and most people aren't doing things the way you'd expect from higher MMR games. personally, i'd love a guide like this from the perspective of the 2-3k bracket where enemies aren't as predictable and don't follow the same 'rules' as you lay out here
I can not thank you enough for this video man! Keep up the good videos and let us know how we can support you. This is the most detailed data 2 video I have ever seen.
Really great guide my man! I've been for the longest time stuck between Ancient 3 and Devine 2. I'd roll between these two ranks, sometimes dropping lower for a game or two, or the other way, stepping out, but being sent back quite fast... for me I was always playing mid or hard supports. Both roles are super important and what my friend likes to make fun of as "autism" I'm overanalytical so I enjoy playing the chess game of DotA... anyway, I've been lately since the 7.33 update trying out different weird picks on mid, Shadow Demon, Venomancer and Ancient Apparition are my most picked heroes. The most success I have is Veno (around 68% winrate). I play these characters because it gives me freedom in terms of how good or bad my cores are doing. If my Hard Carry is struggling, is 0/4 and needs time to farm, Right-click Veno is actually good hero. Same with AA, that build with Scepter, Pike and some attackspeed is bonkers. But if my cores are doing okay or outright dominate the game, I'll take on a role of pos4, you can get auras and other helpful items much faster. The only problem is, that people don't trust me (I mean, yeah why should they right?) it almost feels like I'm playing with League players most of the time. Nobody even tries to communicate, sees Shadow Demon mid and instantly give up, but especially SD has one of the easiest match-ups you can get. You reall don't like heroes like Storm Spirit, Qop or Viper for example, but seeing Viper mid is unlikely nowdays, It's still played don't get me wrong, but not so much. Storm spirit once he has ult It's really unpleasant game for you, especially if he has some of their supports ganking mid and Qop will do nothing at first, but she can just sit back and in the end the mid has became a WW1, where neither of you wanna start the fighting, so you just sit back, farm, once in a while one side tries something, gets pushed back but can't do anything once they are under tower. She clears your Illusions super quick with E, keeps you in check with Q, She's just pain in the ass. What I was trying to ask... I love playing these unusual picks, I know what's good for me and what's an unfavorable matchup for me and Iove playing like this... pickinf regular heroes only makes them more likely for the enemy midlaner to kniw how to play against me, but if pull up on mid with Veno? Most of the players get overconfident really quick. Is there some really weird picks, that just looks and sounds wrong? But are possible to viable? I've been juggling with the idea of Underlord or Treant on mid, still need some tuning, but I start to like these two on mid. You are essencialy unkillable like Timber or Necro, can always go the route of auras or carry and both have global pressence even if they are still on mid. Treant can heal others and towers, Underlord can snatch a rune and Portal somewhere, get a quick kill and return... I'll need to fine-tune these two more tho'
Wow the aggro mechanic using own range creep as vision was new to me, i kinda hate when enemy doesn't have ward in mid, because i can't control the wave as well. Never thought to use the range creep. Awesome
I've been playing dota for 8~ years, and 6 of this years in the mid lane, I say that Im decent at it, (even tho my rank is not the best, but who knows maybe with this video I improve!?), but there were also plentiful things that I learned from this video, while some were already in my knowledge, overall that's an amazing video guide for the midlane, enjoyed and learned something every single minute, you got a new sub here sir! Good work :)
There is an easier way to center the camera on yourself when blocking. Use the "Hold Select Hero to follow" option, and just hold your "Select Hero" key, which is 1 for me. It doesn't require tinkering with console, and it's more convenient than double-clicking.
I maybe wrong but SF doesn't seem like someone who needs their team to create space for him. He can solo kill, take towers , push lanes and create space by forcing enemy tps all by himself
I'm tired of being pos 4-5 and my core sucks. I set up kill after kill after kill and make plays you don't even see at TI yet somehow we lost. Now I'm taking matters to my own hands. Thanks for this guide, I'mma spamming meepo day and night until I get my MMR back.
Dk is another good hero for new mid players, I go a 2:1:2 build before 6 then max he's passive and basically am unkillable to most mid heroes. If you can manage to get a decent timing with blink and shard you can pressure side lanes and have all tier 1 towers down really fast, especially if you got good synergy and push potential with your team.
Really like the ideas just two things i noted while watching this video: you repeated a lot the fact which items you need as puck. Would've loved you to elaborate maybe for different heroes (I understand if you wanted to do so for simplicity's sake but me personally I would've appreciated to hear about multiple different kinds of heroes strenghts and weaknesses and how to fix/play around them. Second I would've loved some time to breath mentally because you arranged the video to be a constant flow of information.. fair enough I could pause the video for myself to get that room to breathe but I think it could be nice if you also think of that for your next longer video :) only good vibes
i learn from him when it comes to greedy heroes and it really true if your hero on mid is greedy also the game is like finish under 30mins below! and result as lose easily.

I think there's also the mental part, most of the time when midlane players lose their lane they don't know what to do they tilt or whatever, yes you died 3 times move on what are you gonna do next? players play rank even when they are not in the right mental space, most of the time you have to really be focused and on synch with yourself when you play rank and mid, so yeah just be constantly thinking on what is your next move. with the bottle info, Id also strongly reccomend not buying bottle if you are versing a hero that auto gets it like ember spirit. unless you plan to rotate often for bounty runes. an example of this if I picked a greedy hero. Im not buying bottle against ember, because i dont yet have the ability to rotate, nor do I have a chance to get the River runes
if he's getting water runes for his bottle and you're not, how do you stay in lane? A half-decent player will force you out because you don't have enough regen
@@TR-78 you are essentially building to leave lane to jungle and return to mid to defend tower. that way the enemy hero has limited opportunity to kill you

16:15 that is not the best block position for radiant, since the creeps split left and right on the tower. the best spot is shown in a video on my profile. it blocks the creeps all to one side so you can block harder earlier.
I have a question.... so i played lol before and there we can pick a role before the game even starts, how do people decide where to go? I want to try mid but there is someone in every game. Is there a mode for that? Or ranked is diferent?

Hi. Is there anyway you can comment on the playstyle of clinkz as a mid hero?
new paindoda vid 🍭
With this new att, invoker without healing on quas, need to take bottle?
Thanks!
16:15 that is not the best block position for radiant, since the creeps split left and right on the tower.
the best spot is shown in a video on my profile. it blocks the creeps all to one side so you can block harder earlier.
That used to work before, but it's kind of random now or at least i'm told so thats why i gave the position thats easier to block from for beginners
@@PainDota still working for me 100% of the time
Perfect video
you can play whatever u want in 3k, it's either 5v5 or 1v9
Thoughts on Techies mid?
