- "The first way Counting Crows ever sounded, it was me and Dave in bars and coffee houses playing open mics, doing this song this way. The song begins with a guy walking out the front door of his house, and leaving behind this woman . But the more he begins to leave people behind in his life, the more he feels like he's leaving himself behind as well. The less and less substantial he feels like he's becoming to himself. And that's sorta what the song's about because he feels that even as he disappears from the lives of people, he's disappearing more and more from his own life. The chorus is, he sorta keeps screaming out these idioms these lessons that your mother might say to you when you were a kid, sorta child lessons ya know, 'round here we always stand up straight'..'carving out our names'."
These are the words of Adam Duritz, Counting Crows and Himalayan front man, and co-writer of the song.
This is the Original Music video for the Counting Crow hit 'Round Here'
My mom and dad danced out side in the rain to this song on their anniversary. Well God bless my dad soul and RIP, we miss you dude, and your spirit is always in music.
unbelievable group, If youve never seen them live i highly highly recomend it. Their stage presence and music puts you in such a music high that no drug could ever do to you its a great feeling that you just never want to end. Thanks crows for doing what you guys do!
One of the greatest albums of the 1990's. Perfectly timed.
So much emotion comes through this man's voice.
" Would you catch me if I'm falling!!! "
My best part.. the guy runs as if he's trying to catch her.. heart warming with shiver all over my body..
One of the all-time great songs in music history from one of the greatest bands ever. BEAUTIFUL STUFF!
This man has a voice that you cannot compare with anyone else. It is so great that it would be hard to try to top it! It grabs you by the soul! WOW- gives me shivers every time I hear it!
Since the first time I heard round here, like, REALLY heard it, felt it, i've never been driven to tears. not like sobbing, but tears. He's the best lyricist ever, period. All of his songs are darkly beautiful.
I think the beauty of this song is that everyone interprets it differently... song is different to each person. And thats just good writing
This song is amazing. It tells a story, a very moving story. Anyone who does not understand this, needs to appreciate music a little more.
Adam Duritz is too complicated to fit into any category except one. He fits perfectly into this one. - - - - - - ICONIC - - - - - - - -
This is the best band ever. My boyfriend got me into the, because he grown up listening to this amazing music. I LOVE IT!!

Just like you remember how lucky you are to be alive, and the people you love in your life when you hear this song.
One of the Crows' best songs.
And Counting Crows is the best band ever, so that says quite a lot.
this song is simply amazing. One of the best songs from the most underated band of all time.
he has such a cry of passion and anguish and fear in the quavering notes. Just haunting!
simply the greatest song ever written. the lyrics that adam writes are astounding- he has such a brilliant mind and you can tell hes been through alot.
these songs bring back memories, provoke feelings and continue to astound me everytime i listen to them.
One of the greatest songs ever written. Brings back a lot of memories. Thanks for the post.
what i like most about music is that it takes you back in time for a sec, makes you feel all tingly for a sec, lol
Yes u make perfect sense. The word you are looking for is "bittersweet" It's that feeling u get when looking back in your life and missing something but though it hurts the memory still makes u happy.
this is one of the few songs that can actually make me tear up..
it reminds me of my dark days in depression..
"she says shes tired of life she must be tired of something" best line ever
This song is as close to musical perfection as i can fathom. It's amazing in it's simplicity and the way Adam seems to talk to us, every time I hear it I think it has a different meaning!!
A musical genius!!
My favorite Counting Crows and love his distinctive voice
Love this song. Never gets old.
This is DEEP. Like, seriously, it even makes a jerk-face friend stop and listen and consider himself, amongst other things.
panic at the disco cleans the bathroom floors at the restaurants that the counting crows own.
crazy jack, your name fits you perfectly
one of the greatest song ever written!!!
wow, this song never fails to make me cry. loove it.
I loved the video myself, seeing "maria" fall into the water was a huge emotional impact for me, and the man in the desert was powerless to stop it...
the older i get, the more i listen. i seem to connect words to meanings, and feelings to mind. this song reminds me of that. when i was younger, i never actually "heard" this song, until recently.
I only watch the video to see the parts where he sings.
He's always such an emotional storyteller, I love it.
this song, live in raleigh last night, was utterly amazing. 12 minutes of pure eargasm.
Man this songs brings back memoires...Love this song
Excellent song... Good ol' summer of '94...
I love this song. Counting Crows are awesome!
this song always gives me the chills even though i am 25 and was only in junior high when counting crows were at their peak popularity this song reminds me of so much of my past from childhood, highschool, college years to adulthood. one of the best songs of all time
And in between the moon and you the angels get a better view
Of the crumbling difference between wrong and right...
This song is so perfect! It reminds me of my teenage years, of a woman who slipped through my hands... Thanks Michelle... You tought me a lot about life, love and about the dangers of a voice who can make a dragon cry...
yeah I miss the 90's too...so many great bands that we had...
This is Counting Crows at their best. The opening song of one of the best debut albums in the 90's.
this song brings back a whole lot of memories
I always loved this song...Reminds me of all the cranksters in my neighbohood who are fading away....
I love this album; it feels like the entire record is about heartbreak.
i miss the 90's sooo much!!
one of the best written songs from them
I can't imagine any album ever knocking August and Everything After out of my top 10 greatest albums. I love his words.
I found the song beautifully interesting more than a decade ago, but now it has a full meaning to me and is one of the most strong and strange feelings I've felt and will ever feel in my whole life.
the most beautiful song of all time
brilliant!!
no one makes songs like these anymore..
so much feeling and thought expressed in words. excellent choices of words and Imagery.
This song have hundred times made me cry...
Beautiful song with lyrics we need now more than ever. I love the poster "Nobody moves and everyone gets hurt".

Best album they ever made.....And this is they;re best song IMO
Good God, I miss the 90's!
I too saw them in Raleigh on the 29th. Absolutely amazing. Based on Adam's lyrical additions to this song live as well as some others, it would seem he has found himself a very special girl. His additions to this song were quite beautiful, as well as his additions to "Good Night Elizabeth". Simply amazing. Adam and the Crows rule. Period.
There's so much emotion in this. I love it.
I love this song so much. it's almost ridiculous how amazing this sing is.
great song, brings back perfect memories. top top band, and what a timeless album 'august and everything after' 14 years old but stills gets played all the time.
One of my favorites by Counting Crows.
I Love the Counting Crows!!!
i ABSOLUTELY love this song soo much. my friend says that when he talks about everyone looking the same, that he is drunk then i explained to him what the song is about. he was embarrassed :)
my!
i forgot how much Counting Crows makes me cry...
I think that this might be my most favorite song ever.
An amazing song from the most amazing album.
Possibly the most emotional song ever.
I truly don't understand why they don't have more recent music out. They're lyrically amazing.
this is one of my favorite songs of all times! whoever plays guitar learn this and play it to this vid! amazing...nuff said
I agree with you. As with all art, it is nothing without emotions. The artist is expressing his emotions and allowing us to use our perception of his art to validate our emotions. That is what art is, and music is an art. As a card-carrying "clinically" depressed person, I embrance this part of being depressed. Sensitivity to what is going on around us is what makes me different. If I can attach my own schemta to a song, then so be it. From these posts, I see what is wrong with the world.
Nobel price for the writer. Really.
Brilliant Song & Album...................
my favourite counting crows song . the lyrics are amazing ! great tune
Where is this beautiful band today? Indeed, another band that made the 90s great. :)
wow flash backs of great high school times!
this remnds me of living/working in greece - one of the few cds i took - amazing songs and fantastic memories!
love the climax of this video and the blue pool at the end contrasted with the desert sky in the beginning.
there is a lot of passion and meaning behind all of the counting crows song you just have to listen for them
the best song of 90's
beautiful,
just beautiful
ogni volta che sento questa canzone mi vengono i brividi.. veramente fantastica..grazie
Man, I love this song.
Cheers!!!
Round here we talk just like lions
But we sacrifice like lambs
May 1994. I can remember it like it is yesterday.
Awesome lyrics, one of, if not the best crows song
Applying this incredible song to a moment I'm living right now, I could finally find a meaning for it:
It tries to put on words how's to fall in love and be emotionally related to someone who has lost his/her mind long time ago. It is the hardest thing you'll ever live, to fall in love with a psycho you didn't know he/she actually was, until you sadly discovered it...
this song helped me make it thru rehab. its my rehab anthem
I miss the 90's too... and some of the 80's.
He's a lyrical and melodic genius!
Counting Crows is one of the best bands ever
This entire album is awesome.
Even the Crows don't make em like this anymore.
Round Here, for some reason. It reminds me of my father lol
RIP MAN
dude... the funk part in the song its one of the best parts... because is in that exact part where he's able explode with it and leave his emotions to flow... is in that part of the song where he's able to explain how he really feels... how he feels about his life slipping away
GOD I LOVE THE ORGAN PLAYER FROM THIS BAND!!! Always been a fan since '93. Eat your mom's heart out Kanye!
Adam is an artist, and this song is a masterpiece. I am at a loss for words on how fuckin great this song REALLY is.
"she parks her car outside my house and takes her clothes off, says shes close to understanding jesus, and she knows she more than just a little misunderstood, she has trouble acting normal when shes nervous"
thats my absolute FAVORITE PART!!
remind me of myself.
I heard this song for the first time in years on my way across New Mexico a few days ago and went to this great used CD shop and bought it again, just to do it....
man this brings back some good memories.
Only 800 thousand views? I don't get. This classic should be well over a million!
love this one!!!! makes me wanna go back on time!!
