  • Starting from Mansfield this is day 1 of our 3 day trip. On this day we visit Bindaree Falls, Bindaree Hut, Pikes Hut, head up 16 Mile Jeep Track and Bluff Track to Bluff Hut, across to Lovick's Hut for lunch before taking the scenic King Billy Track to Howitt Rd and ultimately Howitt Hut, our camp for Day 1.
    On this trip we have Matt in his Silver Prado 150, almost stock, and first time trip participant Luca in his twin locked GU Patrol.
    This was an epic trip and Day 1 is just the begining.

    Oh guess what 4wd we used to travel in all them years ago 😜

    Great drive Jason, just love this part of the world. Have you heard the legend of Button Man? Said to be a very experienced hermit bushman who lives in the area where Bluff tk, King Billy tk & Brock's Rd meet. Hunts using spears made from deer antlers, which he also uses to make buttons & ear rings... If you google him there's some interesting if eerie details... Always enjoy your videos & commentary Cheers

      Hey Ian, yes definitely heard some stories and legends about the Button Man, moreso closer to Wonnangatta but it's not that far from where we were anyway...
      Sounds like an amazing guy from what I've read and heard, also apparently helps out police sometimes with missing person cases.

    Enjoy your videos, and your commentary in particular is fantastic. Just want to say though, your GoPro or whatever is on the roof, has really terrible audio. There is a constant rumble/booming sound that really detracts, and if you listen using headphones or earphones in particular it almost makes your videos unlistenable. It's in other videos of yours too. In this video, when you switch to the footage taken from the Prado, it's like chalk and cheese, the sound difference. I do look forward to more videos of yours, as the scenery and your commentary is top notch. Just not the GoPro rumble sound!!

    • @OffTheBeatenPathAus
      @OffTheBeatenPathAus  Рік тому

      Thx for the feedback, the difference in the footage is some was from Luca's Patrol and taken by a camera mounted inside. My GO Pro is mounted externally as the windscreen tends to get dirty. In the past I've edited the sound of the car down and other viewers complain that you can't hear it then.
      I do try and balance so the voice over is at a good volume and the car sound is audible but not too annoying. That said, on headphones I get it could be annoying.

    Hi, enjoyed the video, useful for convincing my wife to allow me to drive these hill, I'm an old geographer, interested in the geology/geomorphology/vegetation and the history of the area. been a long while since I was last there. . Re your Talus/scree question.. in my view it is either both or neither. In my old geomorphology texts from the 1960's talus/scree are interchangeable (maybe depending whether you trained in Britain or North America?) Talus cones form at the base of a cliff. created by rockfalls as the cliff disintegrates due to weathering. The talus/scree deposits build up over time and form a steep slope, approx 35% in a fresh deposit, so steep and loose it is hard/unsafe to walk on (as I experienced on the north slope of Brinkley Bluff in the MacDonnell in the 1980's) Another possibility (more likely by the look of the feature from your video) is a 'felsenmeer', a 'rock sea' a German term... common at altitude or high latitudes, and in basalt rocks especially, the exposed lava flow cracks into large angular blocks. Looks a lot like what your video shows. I would like to get up there to have a better look, but it doesn't appear to me to be a talus/scree slope. Hope this comment is a useful starting point for you. Aasupport.google.com/youtube/answer/1646861?topic=3024170&hl=en. R
