I’d personally have to throw in a spoon if you fish somewhere like the Texas coast. When drifting most of the flats, the grass is 12”-18” tall across the bottom except for intermittent “pot holes”. I use the Yo-Zuri surface minnow and Bugg’s lures myself. The Yo-Zuri caught a 31” redfish last week plus several 22”-25” reds. The Bugg’s is excellent in the marsh or where you can pull it across the bottom such as oyster beds. But when the grass lets go and is floating thick plus it is knee deep, giving you a 12”-18” window in between the work a lure without getting grassed up, a spoon is hard to beat.
Since you like the wake bait you need to try the Yo-Zuri SS Minnow. They have been discontinued for quite a few years but can still be found new in package on EBay in both the 2 3/4 and 3 1/2” versions. They did release an updated surface minnow but it just doesn’t quite run like the original. It is another cast and crank (2-3 inches) that just catches fish.
Great job again,Nathan. You have a good thing going and appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience. Just moved to Orange Beach from Southwest Louisiana and trying to learn fishing the area, you have made the journey a lot easier. Fished fresh water Toledo Bend and some salt water at Big Lake, Lake Charles area for over 50 years , so have some great experiences fishing. Can't wait for things to settle down in Bama gulf area to start fishing again. Would enjoy meeting you one day.
Thanks man it means a lot to hear that the content is helpful! Toledo Bend has been on my bucket list for awhile, heard there’s some Monster bass in there! Would definitely love to meet you, I’ll be holding a seminar very soon.
Hey man I like your videos on tips and tricks on catching redfish. I'm new to red fishing and alot of people recommended watching your videos on red fishing. As I'm making a list of things I should get, what are your three go-to colors on the 3DB wake bait and Buggs Jig?
The 3DB was discontinued in the us by Yozuri if you can still find them get the Tennessee Prizm color. For Buggs jigs get black and gold, white and chartreuse, blue crab
Thank you for your videos I usually use 1/4 oz strike king football and structure bass jigs and have done pretty well with these lures do you think buggs jigs will outperform regular bass jigs? Thanks again for the great videos
Love your videos, dude! Good tips and information. Have you ever tried changing the treble hooks to single inline hooks? I've done it on top water lures but never the wake baits.
I cannot believe that you did not choose the Stike King Redfish magic and the Heddon Swimin image! Brother I hope we can fish together someday so we can figure out which one of us is wrong! I like my two choices for the same reasons so I will have add yours to my mix. Great video!
Awesome video man. I'm telling you man you're an awesome teacher. My coworker was watching the video with me and he say he learned a few things. I think I got you a subscriber. Question brother? I was in Mobile last night for 10 hours until this morning at the Love's truck stop on Interstate 65 exit 8 at Highway 45 St Stephen Rd Whistler, AL. Just curious do you live close by there. I was just wondering how close I was to you man.

Good tips and advice. Helps a lot. Keep up the good work man 🤙🏻
Thanks man!!
Try clipping a spinner bait to that buggs jig. I have had great success with that combo
Looks good! Anything to get me off of gulp. I have a love-hate relationship with 3” white mullet.
Thanks man, yeah gulp is in my box most of the time but I hate to use it for sure. Try these and let me know what you think.
You said that you reel the wake bait as fast as you can? Is that right? I’ve been reeling them so they stay on the surface and make a wake. Too slow?
I reel them in pretty fast and they are killer for redfish. If a slow retrieve isn’t working for you try a fast retrieve.
Love your content man! What colors on the 3DB?
Thanks man! My personal favorite is the Tennessee Prizm. It’s got some orange to it with a copper tint on the halographics
@@southernsalt Awesome! Thanks!
I agree with the buggs! Gotta try that yozuri!
Man that Yozuri is hard to put down. The redfish can’t resist it man.
@@southernsalt definitely gonna try them thanks
Freaking awesome info brother! I need to get 1 of those hats off you when you come down!! 💪🎣🐟💯🔥
Very soon my friend!
Great info. Any idea what the difference is between the 3DB and the 3DR?
Thanks man I think it’s just the finish on them.

I think they will because the rabbit fur is extremely light and fluffy in the water and moves very naturally with the current.
@@southernsalt thank you for your response I’m going to try them out
@@gregoryperez3623 let me know what you think

I haven’t tried it but it’s probably something worth looking into for sure!

Man that sounds like a good video fight there lol.
Where do you find the Buggs lures? Thanks!
I get them on their website
I kayak fish and go out on Calaveras near San Antonio Do you think the lures will work on the Red’s in the fresh water?
Absolutely! Their attracted to the vibration, rattle, and flash. Should work anywhere.
Cool, thanks for the reply.
nice breakdown
Thank you sir!

I’m actually out in West Mobile. A little further from there.
@@southernsalt oh okay. Well I wasn't too far from you.
Next I’m goin to say take those trebles off and get the Owner replacement hooks for it!
I swap all my hooks over to owners. I use #4s on the Wakebaits
Aww I see you got that buggs! Lol for real try the others like the click bait
