In Pokémon OR/AS, you can talk too an NPC that asks you “where did you come from?” But the only options are yes/no. This also appeared in the original game.
Uh.... Isn't a remake's job to redo content from the original? Even if this line is a meme it's a bit redundant to call it a reference if it's unchanged lol
@@kirbyofthestarsfan It isn't a rule that every line of dialogue has to be the exact same. Obviously, there was an error that was overlooked in the original. The fact that the meme is in Alola a place that has more water than Hoenn and IGN ended up liking Sun & Moon so much they ranked it as one of the best of 2016 despite the abundance of water makes it even better.
@@PeterGriffin11 The abundance of water itself wasn't directly the issue IGN had with OR/AS. It's mostly how all that water requires such frequent HM use (and they weren't wrong about that), something that is no longer a problem with the water in Sun/Moon/US/UM.
@@dinoshotgun The claim is still accurate not just because of the obscene amount of areas that require Surf and Dive, but because the Hoenn Dex is dominated by Water-types. While Water is the most common type in Pokemon as a whole, it's especially pronounced in Hoenn. Of the 211 Pokemon in ORAS's Pokedex, 46 are Water-types. That's over one fifth of all the obtainable Pokemon before you get the National Dex! This was a problem the original games had, too. Conversely, Hoenn was pretty starved for Fire-types. Like, if you didn't pick Torchic you were boned if you wanted a Fire-type; the only other choices being Numel, Torkoal, Slugma, and Vulpix (and Primal Groudon in Omega Ruby). The japanese version of street fighter X tekken actually still references the meme in that scene. This is because in the original japanese version of dragon ball Z the power level is claimed to be over 8000 instead of 9000.
There's a psychic trainer in Pkmn XY that once defeated, states that the player's Pokemon's power level is "over 9000". Also, in Nickelodeon All Star Brawl, SpongeBob's taunt is 1:13 the mocking SpongeBob
The original english dub of Dragon Ball Z upped the power level to be 9000, in the original language it was over 8000, so the Japanese dialogue in Street Fighter x Tekken is pretty spot on in it's own way.
In Pokken Tournament, you can have your human character say "Show me your moves", a reference to one of Captain Falcons taunts in the Smash Bros series.

The best meme inserted into a video game is definitely found in Skullgirls. Using Peacock's "BANG! BANG! My favourite Zero Wing reference is in the Spider-Man 2 game, where Mysterio says "You have no chance to survive! Make your time!", implying that he himself played Zero Wing and used it in his persona 😂
The Street Fighter X Tekken interaction could still reference the meme, as the original Japanese line from Vegeta (and the one used in all dubs after the ocean one) is "It's over eight thousand"

To be fair to the “over 9000”’s Japanese version, that was likely still a reference to the scene too. The original line was actually “over 8000” in Japanese, America just changed the line in the dub, so the Japanese number being slightly higher than 8,000 was most likely the same joke.

Also funny enough, "A Winner is You" get hilariously but subtly referenced in the latest No More Heroes when a certain masked character shows up.
Forgot to mention Ace Attorney : Justice for All's memes. Maya says in case 3, "You're the man now doll" which references the YTMD meme "You're the man now dog". Phoenix Wright also says the phrase "Excuse me princess" to Franziska von Karma" which was a reference to Link saying that phrase in the Legend of Zelda 80s cartoon.
Paper Mario Color Splash is full of memes. One of them is by a Toad, saying: "'"Join the Rescue Squad," they... "It'll be fun," they said...'"
Who the fuck datamined a Kiss Dreamcast game?
Guile's Theme playing over a Manscaped promo talking about ball deodorant is pure genius lol
nice Last Window shoutout btw...amazing game, I'm glad I imported it. Too bad the Trace Memory sequel was on Wii or I'd have imported that too...
i think my favourite meme is 'are you mad at me for some raisin' and its a picture of one of the california raisins, that shit cracks me up every time
Playing Guile's theme is a great way to stop people from skipping the ad. It worked on me, and I almost always skip the ad!
Aww man- they discussed the shorts meme but not the top percentage rattata meme from the next games?
People who do localisations seem to have a lot of fun. In the original Link‘s Awakening you can find an enemy which starts to talk and looks like a dong if you sprinkle it with magic dust. In the German version it the says things like „give me your juice and I‘ll give you mine“ or „never without condom!“.
300 WASN'T ORIGINALLY A MOVIE?
I knew I would enjoy a video about memes, but I unexpected found another reason to like the video with HCBailly's gameplay footage being shown at 8:02 because, as we know, that the reference you know is the best reference. Absolutely!
speaking of memes "all your base are belong to us"
Dead meme
Ok?
Dead meme
Dead meme
“…with video games being a prime source of culture for Everyone (except boomers).”
I can’t.
Out of all the Spongebob memes Mocking Spongebob is the worse one but yet somehow it's the most popular.
If Felicia fails to make a dish in the kitchen in Fire Emblem Fates, she says, "I had one job!"
So you're telling me there were memes before there were memes? Sounds like a meme in the making.
Always has been but someone made up a gay name for them that stuck. Thanks gen z
Yo, I’m a HUGE Kiss fan, how did I only learn about this game now?!
It's awesome, I think it was on the dreamcast, there was also Heavy Metal Geomatrix (yeah, it had WASP, Megadeth, Motorhead, Halford...)
Check out Brutal Legend too bro
I love SpongeBob so much, thank you for mentioning Rehydrated in your video!
Always nice to see Phantasy Star Universe get some recognition
To add to the pokemon and shorts bit, in Pokemon Masters EX, the youngster trainer class sometimes say "ill show you what the power of shorts can do"
Don't forget about Fawful in Mario & Luigi: BiS where he also proclaims "A winner is you!" to Bowser.
The original MegaMan Battle Network had an "all your base" reference, too.
Street Fighter X Tekken still has two more memes that reference the 1994 live action Street Fighter movie and the 1995 Street Fighter cartoon.
the 1st meme has M. Bison's main taunt has him saying, "For me, it was a Tuesday" referencing the "But for me, It was Tuesday" scene from the 1994 movie and the 2nd meme is M. Bison's victory quote when he defeats Hugo says "Yes, This Is Delicious" referencing the "M. Bison Yes Yes/M. Bison This Is Delicious" meme from the 1995 SF cartoon.
Ah yes my favorite nick character. Spongbob
To be fair to the “over 9000”’s Japanese version, that was likely still a reference to the scene too. The original line was actually “over 8000” in Japanese, America just changed the line in the dub, so the Japanese number being slightly higher than 8,000 was most likely the same joke.
"Disclaimer: Not Real Balls"
Oh thank God, you scared me for a second O_O
I mean, the Street Fighter X Tekken meme could still be reference in the original Japanese because, in the original version of Dragonball Z, the line was “It’s over 8000”
6:05 You guys forgot to say that this is also a reference to Sparda, the name of the father of both Dante and Vergil from the Devil May Cry franchise, also from Capcom.
Seems more like a coincidence to me
This is a list of memes, not references or trivia. Dante and Virgil's fathers name is hardly a meme
I love that this video's music is actually a reference 😂😂
Got to love the amount of comments bringing up Zero Wing references as if you couldn't easily fill a video much longer than this one with them.
Also not seen anyone mention the one in Spider-Man 2 where Mysterio quickly says "There is no chance to survive! Make your time!"
