- We picked up this abused 2005 Honda CRF450R for $1000 off the local classified ads. With a price tag that low we were expecting some wear and tear but since the engine that wouldn't run, we didn't know the extent of the carnage until we started tearing into it. We knew a full rebuild was in order but after finding a transmission gear that was stuck and bugs inside the cases, it confirmed we had to go over every nut and bolt on this bike. So in this video we show off all the parts we put on our 2005 CRF450R to turn it from a roached out $1000 bike to a purpose-built desert racing machine.

What are some parts you have on your CRF450R that we should've included on this build?
Seal savers
Rekluse clutch but weighted basket w/hyd clutch was a good choice as well. Boyesson super cooler w/ ported water pump. Tokyo mods carb bowl w/ AP fix & pilot delete. That kick starter really makes the red accents "pop", not much of a powder coat fan cuz of it's durability but it turned out very nice. Well done.
Bruce Simmons I live up in Canada, and was wondering how Tokyo mods is for price, quality and time wise? I’ve heard good reviews but am on the fence ?
Been slowly building a 02 450r Crf, all parts coming off the Rocky Mountain site! Great how to videos helped me replace top end and all valves ! Thanks !!

I have the same one. Been stored for about a decade. Going through the fluids now. Got new plastics/graphics kit from Decal Works (Stars and Stripes theme). Looks great so far!

Joseph Pittala he literally made a list of exact parts and prices for everyone, read description next time. Also you average joe can afford this bike, all parts were under $2800

What mods were done to make the Acerbis skid plate work on the 450r? From what I can tell it is only supported on the 450x. Thanks for doing the videos.

That's the Acerbis 3.2 gallon tank. There is a link in the description with most of the parts we put on this bike!
What was the reasoning to not adding the dual pipes ? I’ve rode 450’s with single and dual ( both carb) and the dual pipe seemed to add more torque and over rev
This bike is a 2005 so before they came out with the dual exhausts for them. But the dual pipes look and sound sweet though!

Oh my lord. That is my dream bike. I've been trying to same up for one but it's hard seeing how much they cost. I love riding my honda xl350 in Colorado. I can't jump it though, it doesn't have enough power or good enough suspension.

I believe it's a 110/100-18 rear tire on this bike.

What did you do about overheating in rocky or single track?
Ride faster ha ha. To be honest we didn't have any overheating issues after the rebuild. I guess we weren't riding gnarly enough terrain. As long as you have your jetting dialed, and your coolant flowing the bike should be ok. There are a number of different things that you can do to combat overheating but we didn't do anything special on this bike. - Wes
@@rmatvmc awe ok, yeah mine runs around 150-200 on hard trails. But it may be that my jetting is off
does anyone make a plastic restyle kit for this bike?
The downfall was the shitty powdercoater that coated the bike... paints coming off everywhere. Besides that awesome build
"The 4 stroke revolution started with Yamaha" ever heard of Husaberg? 4 stroke force, started winning alot of races in the late 80s and stopped production in 2013 but by that time they where basically KTM
Those late 80"s Bergs were definitely BAD ASS. In some cases, way more advanced than the early 90's YZ400's.. but I've never even seen one in person - super rare in the states.
Good point. I owned a 1995 Husaberg Fc600. Crazy power, hard to start, difficult to sell on resale market. Cool factor was big, until Yamaha yzf400 rolled along in 98.

Always my question when someone does a full rebuild. Only reason to do something like this is if it is significantly cheaper than just buying a new bike...otherwise who cares if the 15 year old bike can now keep up if it is $2k more expensive than a new bike to get it there.
If you can pony up the cash to buy a brand new bike go for it. Some people's budgets require they start with something old and slowly get it where they want as the budget allows.
It boils down to whether you want to be riding or sitting at home saving pennies.
I may add that many really enjoy building up a bike like this.

Crazy Driven Honda has gone through several generations of CRF450R and has changed a lot over the years
Should not have powder coated. And all that bling stuff is horrid. Nothing more beautiful that a factory looking bike with brushed aluminum stock pieces

FALSE ... the "four-stroke REVOLUTION" ... started with Husaberg.
I had old husberg 640. monster....hard to start. forget about finding parts. if you did find parts, it would cost you your first child, crazy. Husabergs are very difficult to sells, expect a year to sell. lastly knowbody even knows what a berg is, unless hardcore MX dude or a swede.
