Shortly after quarantine started, I made it my mission to transform our dirty, unfinished basement into a cozy, beautiful, inspiring art studio. And I gotta hand it to me -- I did a killer job.
There was a bunch of cleaning, lots of patches and caulking, endless rearranging, and tons of elbow grease. But in the end, everything looks amazing and functions beautifully. I've been down in my new studio for about a month now, and it has been peachy!
Here is where I bought my furniture:

Desks -- Ikea
Hammock Chair -- tidd.ly/980a7453

Very nice I love the pink couch
Shelby, I LOVE this space! Having just moved into my first house that is mine just this past December I am learning to do DIY projects, too. Your 'new' studio is lovely and inspiring and you did an awesome job!
Thank you so much! I hope you have a ton of fun with your new house ❤️
That's a fabulous space!
Thank you!!
I love that your cat is so involved in supervising everything!
It must be sanctioned by the kitty supervisor!
Awesome renovation! J can barely stand straight up in there!
He's already bonked his head on the beam a few times 😂
Looks amazing 🤩
Love the furniture and rugs
Thank you! I love a good rug, it makes such a difference
BEAUTIFUL so happy for you
❤️❤️❤️
You did such a great job!
Thank you!
Good job really cute ❤thanks for the inspo
I love the transformation! That is so my style and I could totally hang out down there ALL day 😬
❤️ We must be cut from the same cloth!
Oh wow, this is awesome! I'd personally probably have more closed storage (where the old mic stand is etc) to hide stuff, but man that looks like a cool place to work!
I'm definitely thinking that I'll add some closed storage as I grow into the space and get a feel for what fits!
@@Foxsy_Official Super good idea! I keep forgetting we (and our businesses) evolve with our spaces, plus this gives you time to save up for options that'll last for a long time :)
ps, love your journal spreads!
Very nice! Thanks! I appreciate you.
❤❤❤
Happy for you!
❤️❤️❤️
I love it 😊
This is an AWESOME transformation! Thank you. Your furry family is darling!
The one person to dislike this is just jealous they don’t have an awesome basement studio like this...
Haha maybe they think the couch is far too pink 😂
This is what I want to do with my future basement except I’m thinking about adding a glamping tent
Ohhh! That would be so coooool! You should totally do it!
sooo beautiful
💖💖💖
love it!
Awesome!
It’s fantastic!!
Thank you!!
Looks great! Can't wait to see what projects my husband and I can do when Big & Small DIY launches!
Thank you!! I'm so excited to get it launched!
Beautiful
❤️❤️❤️

So excited for you! Your space really came together and it was so fun watching you with the drill. ;D
Thanks! It was fun putting it all together!
Gorgeous!!! The idea for a DIY site is wonderful. Thank you for sharing.
What a transformation, love it!!

Stunning - and so inviting!! Congratulations; all that hard work certainly paid off.

Thank you!!!
I love how cozy it looks! The rugs and couch are 😍😍😍
❤️❤️❤️
I love how you did this with your husband! Love the results!
He was so helpful! Especially with hanging the lights 😆 he didn't need a ladder or anything!
OMGosh, what a beautiful, inviting way to transform a usually dungy, damp, bug infested basement into a homey, relaxing, comfy private area for you to do your beautiful artistry and journaling work and record your live videos, etc., that you seem to do so effortlessly and just ZEN OUT!!! Did you set up a diffuser for enjoying Essential Oils?? That will just add icing to the cake on your masterpiece!!! (I'm sure you already know this, but just be careful which oils you use around your precious fur babies!!)Absolutely love your swinging hammock/chair and the cutest lighting!!! You did an absolute stunning job!!! High 5 to you both and now I can't wait to watch your upcoming DIY channel!!!
Thank you so much, Melody!! ❤️❤️❤️ I don't have an oil infuser, but I do have an incense burner that I use regularly to add that nice aromatic bliss. I might bring the one from upstairs down here, though... 🤔
Thank you for showing the entire process! It sure turned out great!
Thanks for watching! It was fun to put together 😄
Nice!!
💖💖💖
I turned out great Shelby! Thanks for making the video!
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️ It was super fun putting this video together!
You are such an inspiration! Your studio is wonderful! Can't wait to see what you and John will do next!
Thank you!!
Stunning!! Thanks for sharing! Looks like your cat and dog made themselves right at home :)
Oh they LOVE the new basement. Jon complains that they never hang out with him during work because they're always down here with me 😂
Love your new space! Great job!
Thank you!!
I so love this and such an inspiration for my unfinished basement 🤩🤩🤩
Thanks! It's exciting to imagine an unused space as something more special.
It looks so good! I am both jealous and inspired ❤️
Thank you!!
Looks lovely!!!! I'm buying a home and can't wait to do my DIY projects to make it my own.
So adorable, congratulations!! You did a fantastic job! Thank you so much for sharing the process ❤️
Thank you!!
Love the space!!! It looks so good. It would be amazing to have an office/work area like this. Lots of creativity can flow here.
Thank you so much!!
You guys did a great job! Really looks relaxing & colorful. Enjoy your new studio♥
Thank you!!
Oh its so pretty! I wish my basement was nice and not leaky. I have a very similar wall and concrete floor. But....it would need a lot more work. But its nice to see it can be done! :)
Thank you! It's definitely worth the effort.
We had a bad leak that would stream in under a wall after bad rains, and we were finally able to find the source of the water on the opposite side of the house in the garden about a foot under the earth. The mortar between some bricks was worn away, leaving a huge hole where water was getting into our crawl space and then into the basement.
Eventually we had to dig into the garden, patch the hole, and that did the trick! Basically, just try looking in unexpected places. You might find the sources of some of the problems you're experiencing!
@@Foxsy_Official Yeah we know where the problems are and part of it involves digging up the carport concrete. We sure bought a fixer upper! Ha! But getting new downspouts and gutters on the house helped tremendously. I think, for the most part, it has fixed the issue. We've just literally had to redo the entire house. I'm really wanting to put my studio downstairs to give myself plenty of space. It's just going to be a while I think. Love the transformation! So much work! Just wanted you to know that I completely appreciate the scope of what you've done :)
@@nicholewade8233 Sounds like you've done a ton of work to your home, that's amazing! We bought a house that needed a good amount of work, and now I appreciate little renovations much more. It takes a lot of dedication, frustration, and time. Good luck building that studio, you deserve it!
This is gorgeously designed. I envy your talent so much. It really inspires me to be more creative💕
That is such a sweet thing to say, thank you!
I love love loooooove your couch!
Thank you! I'm so in love with it. My mom thought I was crazy for ordering a pink velvet couch 😂
So happy for you! This is a beautiful work space. And yes, I love that your cat is in the middle of everything
She's definitely a helper 🐈
This is amazing transformation. Love the lights and couch and can't wait for the new website launch. I am sure its going to be fun
Thank you!! The lights really completed the room in a big way. 💡
Love the chair! I have a whole loft area I have as my craft room and study room. The problem it’s just a loft room, not a place I can breath and create. You have done this here. I’m basically now going to my Pinterest to start on my own craft room. :D
I've drooled over some gorgeous loft spaces on Pinterest, so I hope you find lots of inspo to get it started. For the basement at least, I've found that good lighting was the key!
Beautiful!!! I hope this means we will see more of your beautiful art work!!!!😁😁😁💚💚💚
Me too! I will say that having all this space makes it much easier to leave recording equipment out, which in turn makes it easier to film/photograph stuff. Hopefully that means more fun stuff to share 😉
@@Foxsy_Official YAY!!!😁😁😁
It’s so nice to follow a midwestern gal in the journaling world! Doesn’t seem to be a lot of us! I’m in west central Illinois.....on the Mississippi River. I’ve been watching you and following your site for a long time. Just never introduced myself! Congratulations on your new studio and good luck with your new venture!
Thank you so much, Wendy! It is always nice to hear from someone in my neck of the woods ❤️
Omg I love it 😭 and I love ur pets too they’re so cute 🥰
Thank you!!
everything turns out amazing. I'm so jealous :))
❤️❤️❤️
You have made wonderful DIY of you new studio, I know the feeling of having a studio with in another room, my is in the lounge... Well done you..
Thank you ❤️ It's so great having a special place just for creativity!
So pretty!!! My hubby and I just moved into a new house back in March...my art studio is also in the basement! It's workable, but this definitely inspires me to find the perfect rug...and more plants ;)
Congrats on the move! Couldn't have timed it any better with quarantine and all. Also, there's ALWAYS room for more plants 🌵
Ah yay another video! Your studio looks amazing now, and it feels like you didn't have to change that much! I thought you'd need to put in new flooring etc, but you totally didn't :D looking forward to the new website!
Thanks, Liz! The floor is definitely a bit rough, but with some rugs, it really kinda adds to a grungy chic feel. Maybe one day I'll repaint the concrete, but I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out!
"rude" 😂😂
What a beautiful transformation Shelby! And your cat is adorable!
Also, do you think your plants will thrive in the basement? My workspace is in a poorly lit room and I would love to brighten it with some plants but I am worried if they will survive the low light.
Thank you! I ended up relocating the big monstera to a brighter room, but I still have two pothos, an asparagus fern, a snake plant, and a large spider plant all happily living in the basement. I think for the basement, you just need low light plants to ensure they'll do okay.
@@Foxsy_Official Thank you for replying! I think I willgo look for some plants for my space now 😊
Looks great! We want to make one so my partner has her own art space. Where did you get the tables to along the edges? We would like the same kind of thing, too! Cheers!
I got both of these tables from Ikea! You can build your own custom tabletop and legs combo at Ikea. I love the tabletops, but the legs are super wobbly. I'd suggest you skip the white squared legs and go for something with a connecting beam between the two back legs so it's more stable.
I love it! What a great project--and what a nice place to work. Question: I love the plant you added, but do you think you'll get enough sunlight for it in a basement?
You're right! It's a monstera, and while I initially thought it might work with that east-facing window, we've since decided that it should live upstairs. I'm now on the hunt for a plant to better fit that spot.
Very nice job! Any Radon issues?
Thanks! And none that I've known of!
Me and my friends made a hangout spot down in my unfinished basement so we could smoke in it 😂
Did you add a dehumidifier?
Nah, I never did! That would have been a smart move.
Please tell me where you got your sofa ? Please
I got the sofa from Article!
Hello ☺️
Could you tell me how many square meters your basement is...?
I want to reno mine also to do a craft room and this could help me see how much could actually fit into it!
I don't know what it is in meters, but I believe the room is approximately 20 feet x 15 feet. It's pretty darn big, which is great for all my filming and lighting equipment!
@@Foxsy_Official thank you very much for answering! It’s pretty cool by the way! Good evening/morning
