- The Rainbow Road is the final course in every Mario Kart game. Aside from having great music, the course is also well-known for being quite difficult to master. In this episode of 'Evolution of Gaming' we're going through all incarnations of the Rainbow Road from Super Mario Kart to Mario Kart 8.

I think Double Dash is when it started looking really good, the reflective cube map really adds to it, not to mention the city environment below.

I've always adored Rainbow Road. To me, It was always a big "Thanks for playing!" Track, where they go all out. It's usually the most complex and difficult track, saved right at the end of the other tracks.
And It couldn't be any better. It's the perfect way to end any Mario Cart game. The music is upbeat, the stakes are at the highest, and the entire atmosphere oozes joy, and fun. And with the fireworks, again It's like an interactive credits scene, at least to me.
Damn when Mario kart double dash came out, I thought the graphics wouldn't get any better.

I find the Wii version of Rainbow Road to be the hardest, but also the most fun. I've been playing Mario Kart for around 8 years now, and I've gotten to be really good at it. It's not even the entire track for me, it's the set of turns right after the two holes (before the cannon-star), because around 30% of the time I turn too sharply and fall off, sending me really far back in races or making me lose mushrooms and time in time trials. Also, the best music to me is by far the music in the Wii version, with the Mario Kart 8 SNES Rainbow Road remake in second.

Was anyone else really disappointed with Mario Kart 8s rainbow road? I always thought the whole essence of the rainbow road was minimal walls, narrow roads and sharp turns to make it hard to not fall off. I feel like MK8 rainbow is just another track

I do. I love it. every day, I race and continue to improve my time. Acceleration is key in this course for a fast time.

Plub 64: The reason it's in the video is because that track was inspire by Mario Kart 64's Rainbow Road. Take a look again and it's pretty much the same layout.
it's because the track layout for the f-zero one is the same as the Mario Kart 64 one.
I love Rainbow Road because of the high risks, especially since I always take the fastest paths.
And in my opinion, MKWii has the most fun rainbow road, MK8 has the best looking one, and MKDS was the most memorable

N64 was my jam yo, I was so happy to see a tribute in the newest Mario kart
The N64 Rainbow Road was by far the best one. It was first and foremost a endurance track, and while it doesn't have the extra bells and whistles of the later ones, it was still visually impressive.

I remember when I was at school once and someone did a charity event by bringing in mario kart double dash. I remember once he put on rainbow road and counted every time someone fell. Out of the 4 of us, I was the only one who played this game and didn't fall off once. I can't remember exactly but I know the count went into the 40's by the time the race ended.

For looks, I'd say that 64 is my favorite, with MK7 being close. For track design, I think that Double Dash and MK8 are my favorite.

Mario Kart 8's Rainbow Road was UTTERLY DISSAPOINTING. It's too modern, half of the track is rainbow, the rest is buildings. I find 7's and Wii's the best rainbow roads.
Rainbow Road 64 was the very first Rainbow Road track that I ever raced on when I started getting into the Mario Kart series back when I was a kid. It's music always gets to me, and now, whenever I listen to it, I choke up, and shed tears, because it's such a beautiful, and nostalgic piece of music from my childhood. TT_TT

One of my favorite moments of MK8 was the n64 rainbow road. It brought back the train from Kalimari Desert and it basically made you feel like all those neglected levels were rolled into one here.

This video made me realize what was off about MK8 N64 Rainbow Road. They divided the course into three laps. I always felt it was too short. This was the reason why. (Still like the music and look of it.)
Ace They did it so that the course could look almost the same, while also shortening the track by making it a point a to point b course (like Mount Wario), though it looks like it still loops around.
