    So I watched this the other day... I used to think I painted a pretty good sky... then I had a look at a painting I'm working on that I wasn't so happy with, I just couldn't finish it... I realised the sky was definitely not well done.
    So with your tips I just thought I'd start all over again. The result after listening to your video makes me very happy. It does take some practice though! You make it look so simple... it was a real balance of finding the right amount of water, brush pressure indeed (I was pushing too hard), and washing the brush. I get lazy there and had to do those parts again. Thank you again for your tips. You're a good teacher.

    • @SyndiaArt
      @SyndiaArt  4 роки тому +18

      Hi Christie! I'm really glad it helped you! Acrylics are really really hard for blending... That's why I try to paint in a more expressive style most of the time. If I preferred a very realistic style (which I don't) I think I would have switched to oil paint by now... A tip that I didn't mention in the video, especially if you want to paint clouds and shadows, is to dilute the paint with matte medium instead of water... to create a translucent paint mix (the glazing technique). The blending process might be more vibrant in some cases with that technique. :o) Have a great rest of the week!

      Same with my art teachers. They never let you do you and let you explore your style. They just want you to do EXACTLY what they do which makes art very very boring. I actually almost slept in one of those classes and I never sleep in classes in general.
      They really made me dislike art so I’m happy that I gave art another chance and look up videos for tips from really good UA-camrs like her!

I loved how you were able to get the reflections from the boat into the water! Wonderful! That's my biggest challenge is water. I learned some important things today. I'm recently retired and live on a fixed income now, and although I have not painted it 25 years, I feel it's something I can do from home and I have sold a few painings in the past. I prefer doing the blending part of the background first, because then it helps me to know what I need to change beforehand. Gradients are really hard to achieve, but I recommend thick paint with dampened brush, you first paint the lighter part and put a drop of the paint above/below it where you want the gradient. Then without cleaning the brush from the lighter part, start spreading the drop. This has helped me get some perfect gradients, especially while painting horizons.

    Wonderful teacher! Addressing the everday issues of painting that everyone encounters is something not many teach. Too many are caught up in the glossy, glamorous presentation that doesn't teach the basics. Thanks!

    Love this video.. creating a pattern for a family member. Using Acrylic light gray covering the entire canvas lightly not thick.. let it dry and paint a few bold streaks of titanium white over the gray. Making it very minimalist.. Question what acrylic paints are good for feathers stokes of the brush ? And what type of wide paint brush works?
    Ty love your channel
