Its the brushes, knowing what to use for certain strokes and lines and the best ones.

This is so helpful. I was actually hesitating on buying expensive brushes because I feel like my skill level does not deserve expensive brushes yet. So happy that I'm on the right track. Thanks for this 😍☺

Great video, Syndia. Actually, I decided to stick to oil pastels after trying to learn watercolour with cheapo brushes and supplies. Oil pastels require minimum investment. Happy to see more videos from you!

I guess when you're not brand new to brush buying and you can see them in person in the store, you can tell if a brush will serve its purpose for you or if it's too low in quality. 😊 With acrylics/oil you can get away with cheaper brushes. With watercolor it's a bit different I think.

I was picking them off like a dog shedding

  • @bluewolfspirit9713

Great tips. I had the shedding problem too... but luckily I was using an ink wash at the time and could just let it dry and then brush it away. (picking them off before dry left fingerprints) So if you try your brushes out with watercolor or ink wash, you'll see if they shed or not and can wash them out and use them with other stuff.

The cheap ones do the exact same job. I still use cheap brushes and I'm a professional artist and sold more than 60 paintings .

Good, comon-sense advice. Having expensive paintbrushes might seem a good idea for a beginner, but in the end, I believe that a master artist can achieve better results with cheap brushes, than a beginner with expensive ones. As you said, it's what you do with the brushes, how you use them (and clean & store them of course)

It's an interesting video but what is the main difference between Acrylic paintbrushes and brushes for watercolour and oil paints are the brushes all the same for each type of medium

I kind of curious whether the price increase is worth it for cheap brushes bought online. They cost about $5 for 6pc many different type of brush.
