Hey zlim, thanks for taking the time to cover our project (again)! Your critique was on point, we've heard from players that an alternative to the limited save system would be appreciated so that's definitely on our radar. Keep up the great work, loving the consistent uploads!
I'm happy to see more indie developers try new things within this retro-shooter side of the industry. And it's so nice seeing how the blood spurts actually stain the floors properly. I think that responsive blood effects in these kinds of games really help establish a better feeling when it comes to how impactful your weapons can be. Reminds me of Soldier of Fortune... but toned down to fit the spy-thriller genre a bit more. Tho I'd still love to see full dismemberment if the devs have that planned.
6:17 Reminds me Soldier of Fortune 1 and 2. Graphics and gunshot like Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. I've already added it to my wishlist on Steam. Thank you.
@@ZlimBratSki Soldier of Fortune 2 is amazeballs and the MP was legendary. If you diss SoF 2 or it's MP I will have to say bad things about you to the Swedish government. And maybe a salty licorice store.
Wait, this game sounds a lot like the cancelled Deep Cover game developed by Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios who made Thief. It was also supposed to be an immersive sim, spy-espionage stealth FPS game in a modern setting. I wonder if the developers of Deep State were inspired by the concept of Deep Cover. Even the name is kind of similar although that may just be a coincidence since deep state is a real term.
I would disagree. Soldier of Fortune's (the first one, of course) levels were prettier to begin with, quite a lot of detail went into them. And they were all thematically completely unique(!), which stood out among all the other military hoo-ha shooters of the time. What also stood out, - were the weapons. John Mullins didn't wield anything even remotely as boring as an AK. His weapons were one of a kind (apparently made in a secret basement factory, exclusively for him). And they went from a basic pistol to a sci-fi microwave cannon. Next, SOF made you feel like the Punisher/Rambo, rather than some spy in the bushes with a pew-pew silencer. Especially in the earlier parts of the game. Furthermore, SOF was based on a Quake-2 engine, which meant the proper action mechanics were already a granted. Last but not least...the death animations and the enemy reactions to being slowly dismembered by 50 cal shots...that would make Jason Voorhees drop his jaw and Patrick Bateman grin like a Cheshire Cat 🤣. I highly doubt that such a combination of it all could be easily replicated. It's not impossible, but it would take a lot more effort (and creativity) than this. The only thing that i see similar - is the mustache.
Rex Stache i want. Didn't know the dev considers this pre-alpha. There is already so much polish in that version i saw you play. Good times ahead of us!

I'd say that AAA industry is in a deep stall, rather than a definitive demise. Although one could easily evolve into the other. I'm guessing they told you to use an hex editor to change the fov value. They probably couldnt add a fov slider for fear of having to update and break the demo. At least they gave you a solution, not optimal but a solution nonetheless.
@@ghost085 No, it was dnspy, which is different IIRC. Also, the solution did not work, there was no changeable value i could find. Even with assistance from the devs and 2+ hours of my time. It was terrible.

However, the original trilogy's Sam Fisher was just way too cool to skip. And there were solid reasons for that. For starters, the SC games looked gorgeous right from the first one - they were always the cutting edge tech for its time, unlike this dodo. Second, the stealth system was not only fully competent and thought-through, but it also was pretty much a copy of Thief: The Dark Project, which remains a gold standard in stealth gaming to this day. Then, Sam Fisher's actions were all unique, including the knife takedowns - and he didn't have an M16 to boot🤪. Combined with constantly dark/rain/night setting - the mundane locations didn't detract from the presentation as they otherwise would. Last but not least: Michael Ironside. To me, Splinter Cell starts and ends with him. His iconic voice was just as essential as Sam's badass infiltration suit and the signature night vision gear. Throw in a personal favorite - Sam's split jump and the inverted neck-break - the true icing on the cake (can't beat that in an FPS🙃) and it's a total, properly made stealth-action package.
