Actually, that first riff (00:25 - 00:52) combined with solo, is my favorite Metallica's riff. Solo is misleading to think it is going 1,2,3, 1,2,3 instead of 1,2, 1,2... For years i was mislead (until i started playing guitar and started focusing on some things). Simple and gorgeous combination. Sounds so good.
I looked at a bunch of live clips and they never look like they do 7-0-6-0 in frayed ends. It looks like 6-0-5-0 throughout the whole thing, Ben Eller also stated that in his lesson. I also love how damage inc is simply mashing low e
Those live clips aren't from the era in which the song was written. They also play the pre-solo riff in Disposable Heroes wrong too in modern day. It's entirely possible for them to relearn their own song wrong.

Some really good hidden riffs are from the black album. Most notably, there’s the galloping rhythm in the bridge of “Holier Than Thou” and the backing riff of the bridge of “Wherever I May Roam.”

So...just how MANY rhythm guitar tracks did Hetfield throw in those early recordings? There was the main riff, then...what? Another rhythm guitar superimposed over (or tossed in underneath) it? How many total? There had to be at least two to three, from the way things look. Am I bloody missing something? I always suspected there was more than merely ONE rhythm guitar playing.

Important fact: the rhythm for the descending lick on "Hit the Lights" is in 7/8: dotted eighth - dotted eighth - eighth - eighth eighth - eighth.
