Wow i didnt even know that lol. I came here because i saw this car in karate kid movie and didn't know what it was. Looked like a beefed up version of a ford tempo from the same era. That reminds me of something i was thinking earlier, what is romans car from gta iv?
@@Shyzah In GTA IV, Roman's car was based off the "Esperanto" (In game name). The car was based off a mixture of the 1982-83 Chevrolet Malibu, 1982-86 Pontiac Bonneville and 1976-79 Cadillac Seville.
RoundenBrown It's called a midsize Ford LTD. The engine is a 3.3-200. The transmission is a C-5 3 speed. The carb. is a Holley 1945 1 barrel. The choke is on the carburetor. Chrysler has a 1946 with external choke.
Oh man. My Grandparents bought one of these 1983 LTD's back in the early 90's. They had an accident with it in 1997 and it sat abandoned in their back field for over 15 years. They replaced it with a 1985 Grand Marquis. LOL.
They don't make'm like this anymore. My 1st car was a 78 ford fairmont with a 3.3 ltr straight 6,she was a dog but solid as a fucking tank. I once ran the radiator slap dry along with it being 2qts low of oil. It got so hot it valve rattled till it shut off, i added 2qts of oil a gallon of antifreeze and drove it 20 miles home. I paid $200 for it in 1996 drove it till 1999 and it still had mostly all o.g motorcraft shit on it..😎😎
Very first one I saw with the straight six in it. I knew they came with them but never saw one cool. My parents had a 85 with the 3.8 v6 though. You are right they ride great. Feels like you are sitting at home on the couch. My parents had the same issue on vacation one year. The exhaust fell off. At the cat. Sears fixed it.
Hahaha! I had the Mercury version of one of these! The Marquis! Mine was newer, an '85 with CFI fuel injection, the 3.8L and most all options including power seat & windows. It was a smooth cruiser let me tell you! Rode better than my previous '79 Volare with the HD suspension, that's for sure! Unfortunately the CFI 3.8L's mpg was no better than my Dad's '76 Monarch 250 ci (it had all the emission crap removed except EGR) and worse than the Volare's 225ci slant six. But it always ran smoother and ALWAYS started up and ran like a dream!
We have a 1985 Ford LTD with a 3.8 V-6. I have a 1983 Mercury Marquis with a 6-200 3.3. It looks just-like that body-style. It has a C-5 transmission. The carb. is a Holley 1946. The choke is on the carb. The mixture isn't adjustable. The idle is set at 550 in Drive. The camber is 1/2 ° Positive. The caster is non-adjustable. It has Modified struts. The drums are 9". The tires are 14", P19570R14. 1983 tires are P18570R14. The transmission bands are adjustable on the outside. The forward band is 4 1/4 and the reverse is 3 turns. It has a C-5 transmission. Timing is 10° BTDC. The ignition is Dura-Spark. It has ported vacuum switches hooked up to the heater hose to the water pump. The heater is manual control. The needle-valve is replaced externally at the fuel line to the carburetor. There's a fuel filter at the carburetor.
I love LOVE these older well used survivors. Even the 1990s stuff. But this is sweet. The Fox body Fairmonts and LTD's are NOTHING like the Aussie fairmonts and LTDs
The old inline sixes are fairly reliable you may want to replace the points if it still uses them. Here in Australia the early 80's fords had switched to a crossflow design with alloy head.
Yep they are well built I used to have an AU ex-taxi with nearly that may KM's on the clock the AU and BA I6's shifted to a much stronger bottom end. Its a shame Ford stopped production of the Barra in October 2016
87 hp from 3.273 litres. One of the lowest amounts of hp per liter, except for the 1981 5.0 Crown Vic, 1982 351M Bronco, 1976 500 Cadillac or, the 1932 65 HP 3.6 liter flathead Ford.
is this the same platform as a Fairmont. I wonder how similar they are to the aussie ford's we have in NZ. I test drove an 85 falcon ute the other day judging by acceleration they are similar.
+Clint Collins Collins Yeah its a fox platform. Its even more foxy than a fairmont, because a Mustang nose will bolt on this thing and actually fit the body lines.
Anyone who dislikes this car...F you. Anyone who is deeply in love with older vehicles and the desire to restore them is a passion and takes heart. Keep up the good work👍
Cool shit, whatcha planning for it? I figure just cut the nonexistent exhaust off and straight pipe it out the back since it won't be any louder lol, will probably make it quieter. Oil, Coolant, Spark plugs and shake out the floor mats? figure thats probably more than that car deserves. Check atf level? Maybe bleed the brakes to see if they get less spongy, probably has more water in the system than brake fluid. You going to sacrifice it to the sloppy gods on the next dyno day after the rally or is it joining the horde?
The police car from GTA: Vice City.

Really does look comfortable. Hell, I wish Fords were still as comfortable today.

It's honestly in pretty ok shape. You honestly don't see a lot of LTDs sadly.
well, this version was pretty bad. Basically a Fox Mustang or Ford Fairmont with a standard 2200cc engine (although you could get bigger).
it's a fox body!

Damn I now I want one

Mine has the 3.3l in it 83 was the last year for that engine and also the only year that had it!!
I just bought a MINT white on blue LTD grandma owned with a 3.8 and c5 yesterday for 800!
Is it still running?
this makes me miss the 250 I6 that was in my biscayne
I love my 83 Ltd mine has the 3.3l also!!💗
Nice video!
What is the steel coil in the engine bay? Part of aircon or old emissions equipment possibly. It's on the passenger side of engine.
I'm about ready to have 2 of those LTD
If I’m not mistaken this car was replaced after the Fairmont’s were discontinued. I also remember Station Wagon versions of these cars. My childhood.
Odd I thought they were all 3.8 v6 powered. Both mine were. Never seen 1 with a straight 6.
I got an 83` from an old lady for 900 she was the only owner it has less then 100k and it's pristine

Not easy to find one with that wonderful Falcon six.

Cant find them anywhere and when you even try to search. Nothing but the crown vic comes up
I saw one at my local junkyard yesterday. Brought back a lot of memories from driving around with my parents in the mid/late 80's.

Moran Taylor and we got the BARRA
I have a BA ute and a Territory powered by the Barra 😎
I6 Barra 190, dual fuel with over 900k kms on it..
Yep they are well built I used to have an AU ex-taxi with nearly that may KM's on the clock the AU and BA I6's shifted to a much stronger bottom end. Its a shame Ford stopped production of the Barra in October 2016

Steering wheel comes from the Crown Vic/other panther cars of that area
Hi there Justin,
What do you use for video and audio in your uploads; Audio sounds wonderful. Is it all one rig or a recorder mounted on a tripod?
+Jeffrey Rainey Either my Samsung S7 cell phone or Canon HD camcorder. I forget the exact model. No other mics.

that steering wheel had me in RP... fucking filthy.
Future turbo build?
Looks like an 1984 Thunderbird dashboard
24 hours of Lemons potential.
"ok, so its like a shitload of pumper"
Very nice car, wouldn't be too hard to restore. Get a fan shroud otherwise it will always be running hot.
Premier Beater
Is there a website for that lemons race?
Nvm found it on roadkills web site
just to note hes just doing the rally not the race. the rally is just the gumball rally but with clapped out hoopties.
What is going to be the purpose for this vehicle I was just wondering
It was used on the Lemons Rally, there's videos on my channel.
those fucking buzzers........
Wow i always thought those had the 3.8 v6! i had an 84. Maybe that was the first year.
+Zac Goode 3.8 was also an option
Well, you know it's a Lehigh Valley area car if it's got a Jaindl sticker on it, they used to and still do own everything south of Nazareth.
TheMr6507
He said he drove it down from the Poconos
If you got sick at the Grime on that steering wheel
Anyone who dislikes this car...F you. Anyone who is deeply in love with older vehicles and the desire to restore them is a passion and takes heart. Keep up the good work👍
Rashad Marie >>> Yes put me in the 2nd category. Save & revere the classics!

Isn't this the same car that Cody Ace had?
Indeed it was!

1983 Ford LTD 4 door inline six
My question is where to get hoses and stuff for it
Last line of great cars before they started making fwd garbage.
Those cars are ugly
