I'm sure you've been sitting on the edge of your chairs for months, but finally the Harbor Freight Predator swapped Yugo hits the "roads".
There's a lot more work to be done though.
This is what peak automotive engineering looks like.
Yup, think the performance has significantly improved over the original commie design.
I like the shop towel as a gas cap. You don't see that anymore. Great job sir!
That’s the last ditch, light it and leave it 🔥
Gee that old LaSalle ran great those were the days.
Haha I remember somewhere picking tons of red fibers out of a drainable/serviceable fuel filter/water separator setup on some diesel every few months somewhere I worked cause of the red rag fuel cap.
Actually he shoulda stuffed that gas soaked rag in the blower motor 😂😂
The malatov cap.
lol
It still might make more power than my dart. drive it long enough to get us some fuel figures. Sure it might be considered a form of self-harm, but all 17 of us would be thrilled to see it.
Love all that shifting. It's like you're stirring soup in there.
The linkage is mint actually ,that's about how they were when new. 😂
Why is this not at 8M views? This is awesome! It’s like a fun, kooky go cart. This should be viral worldwide!👍😀
I used to work with a guy from the former Yugoslavia, who had been in the US for years, that insisted that the Yugo was "a very good car".
...and he worked in engineering. To this day, I'm not sure if the guy was pulling my leg, but he seemed pretty serious about it.
🗿it was basically a Fiat👍
Good car gets you from A to B …
He's working as a janitor now
@@talltom1129 what?
Usually guys that smart get to building super
Most understanding wife ever!
Gotta keep her around for something.
Dude this is amazing! I’m totally hooked, get this thing on the road!!
I never thought I'd say this, but your Yugo sounds like a riding lawnmower. ;)
You might be able to put some kind of cable operated "band brake" on the rear pulley on the torque converter and hook it up to the old clutch pedal so when stopped you can stop or at least slow the pulley down enough to get it back into 1st gear.
Take it to the max and instead of a band use an old school toothed “dog clutch” like on an industrial winch.
Now that’s a sick ride!!
i have been subscribed since your beautiful turbo ls winnebago that thing was fun to watch i loved the sound it had.
the factory emblem should've read "you go ?"
i'm glad see one again . always thought they were neat looking .
That screeching was the ghost of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.
I actually was waiting for another video on this. I wanted to see it drive, and you made it happen. 👍
Epic! Nice to see it moving on its own power again!
Really ain't much slower than stock 😂
Good to see it up and driving around 😊 That connecting shaft may have to be the most expensive part of this conversion to remove vibrations. Fingers crossed a bit of DIY lathe work cures the issue though 😉
Omg yes you guys are awesome 😂
Edit: damn haha ,off the bat that thing looks in real good shape.
I'm not embarrassed to say the first shop I ever worked at, they bought out a Yugo dealership and I spent the summer taking 12 cars and making 7 of em saleable.
Swapping used clutches around, foaming holes in rockers with expanding foam, yeah haha the good ol days.
The back of the factory service manuals had hop up parts for em like cams and carbs and intakes.
Oh don't forget the early days of the internet , Dave Yugo and Underdog.
I believe he was running 14s or maybe 13s with his.
4:20 was hoping for an attempt to make the tires rotate before the car moves, much disappointed 😞😂😂😂
13:39 - My personal favorite part, seeing the remnants of 30 year old PA Inspection stickers from an emissions county on a Yugo. LOL!
A centrifugal clutch on this would do wonders. Take the foot off the gas, pause, change gears, foot back down.
Chopped, cheers for the vids and the yugo is just the gift that keeps on giving.
Very impressive you have persevered and it’s working
The good old 80's!
Hashtag nohoodgang
😂
Will you be mass producing these? I'll take one but only if there's an upgrade option where both doors close.
It appeared that you had to drive it like a semi automatic somewhat since you couldn’t go through the gears as normal . There were more complaints of exhaust fumes than water leaks , since it was raining so that’s a plus . Well , the misses was optimistic so that’s cool .
Guess the only thing to do is forge on . Special thanks to the misses for her optimism 👍 not for nothing , but it’s a clean looking body and somewhat interior too .
I have been waiting for this!!!
I knew this car would get you some sushi
These "industrial engine" automotive swaps are SO much fun!
I bought a new in box 11HP Lifan engine for a young friend here in our tiny town of 200 in the boonies of Northern Nevada, and he got it running in an 1980s Nissan pickup that came to him free, with no engine (but did have a 5-speed trans).
The blue Lifan I bought was branded Harbor Freight, before Harbor Freight was sued into stopping the sale of this too-exact Honda clone. The newer "Predator" line is apparently lax enough in their cloneiness, or perhaps Honda's relevant patents have expired by now?
How difficult would it be to stick a Hayabusa engine in this thing? Ive seen it done on smart cars and it looked like a blast to drive. The hardest part would be designing a good shift linkage and rerouting the clutch.
No reverse in a busa gearbox
@@Vaino_Hotti electric reverse is a thing.
@@watsisbuttndo829 I don't if it's thing in the budget world of lawn mower swapped Yugos :D
@@Vaino_Hotti busa in that thing would be terrifying!.
I always enjoy your video's dude.
The door just gives it a nice touch. 😅
It's now a go-cart with a roof! Sounds exactly like the go-carts at the local fun center. Probably goes about as fast too.
I mean, you could probably weight reduction bro it down to a really heavy go-kart 😂
This is fantastic. Someone HAS to do it...why not you? Thank you.
This is usually how I live my life.
@@FuelInjectionSucks I can't wait till you put a turbo on it 🗿👍
Giving it the ole college try, Kudos sir !
🗿 you made a Fiat into a gulf cart and I love it😂😂 Thanks for sharing
8:06 This is how you shift a Yugo.... and the encore at 9:16!!!
This is my favorite yugo of all time !
That thing needs a whistle comrade
Could look into getting yourself one of those manual line lock buttons that Jegs sells for a cheap parking brake.
I’d love to see what one of those Chinese 400cc diesel engines with a baby turbo would do in this.
Keep thinking of going more like a motorcycle clutch system…
Oh and first gear for traffic.
Nice exhaust!
Wives putting up with their crazy husbands. 😅
Would it be possible to put a brake on the input shaft of the transmission(or on the secondary pulley) to make it shift better when standing still?
I was thinking of something like this. Maybe a go-cart or mini-bike drum brake setup.
@@FuelInjectionSucks could double as a parking brake 😊
Man that thing sounds mean
This thing rules.
Also I’m sure @agingwheels would totally help you with the Yugo wiring.
Hi, so I saw you put a eco boost into a 80’s Ford and I was wondering if I could put a 5.4 engine into a 86’ Bronco XLT? The transmission exploded on it and we figured it would be somewhat cheaper to do that than to buy a transmission.
Full build
Yeah, shaking the magic shaft too much might cause problems. 😛
Some directions I had for a model car had a bad translation.
They used small screws to secure the body to the chassis and it said : don't screw the screwing hole too much or it'll become unavailable 😂😂
How true ,how true 😝😝
haha
I want one.
Or similar project.
A regular 12 volt battery could work for minimal lights.
Just as a plug in battery maintainer and small solar panel.
If you can get something that operates from the engine power, that would be cool too.
ludicrous speed
awesome
Is there water in the transmission or sand?
Disable 1st and second. Use 3rd, keeping 4th as overdrive
Sounds like its begging to be sent to the crusher to put it out of it's missery.
The lights might stay on because the relay wil stay switched on as long as there is power on it. If you disconnect the sensor circuit the power wil come of. Just check the relay wiring and maybe hook it up differently
I bet if you put a Wisconsin 4cyl like used on old tobacco Harvesters, that car would be back to better then factory condition. I would love to get my hands on one. Back in the early 90s or late 80s my friend had a dark blue one he got on a trade, then after jumoing hills and racing around through the woods with it he sold to guy that used it for a fishing trip car. I think it was burned up in a forest fire.
I about busted up laughing once the odyssey to find first gear began, and then when she said "its the communist screams for help" I just was sent into low earth orbit
Do you have a way to chat back and forth? I need some serious help with my project car. I believe it’s a fuel issue
I love it. Please continue to pour your UA-cam dollars into this. Or not.
Cool. Im building a seat arosa whit a 15 hk honda engine. How much fuel/100 km on this? Sp
Does the yugo have a positive ground electrical system
Would handling be better due to the lighter engine?
How fast does it go
Speed is a relative term, relax man, and have a groovy trip 😂😂
I'm only asking because I want to make one
I think you might need a slightly higher primary drive. Though, you roached that belt in 4th. Once you take the governer off, put the high RPM flywheel on it, and put some hop up parts on that thing from go power sports, i bet this thing will be about as quick to 40 as the stock yugo was lmao. Look at the cars and cameras various tuning kits for these. You can make some silly power out of these. Theres cams and everything for em.
I think a big thing you can do is lighten the rolling stock up too, if you can find 4 original honda insight spare tires and some wobble lugs you can run them on the 4x98 stud pattern. Or run some 13" alfa or Fiat alloy wheels or something. The lighter you make those wheels, the faster this thing will get up and go.
do a hidden cam and take it to walmart for an oil change.
The biggest problem to me is having to bang it into gear with a moving input shaft.
Its awesome 🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙😂😂😂😂
"Communist screaming for help..." 🤣🤣
Can I buy it from you
How is that ford edge holding up? I have one and am wondering if that hoe gonna go past 200k miles.
0-60: N/A
So, same as stock 🤷♂️
😂😂
Even the commie cars had rock crusher 4 speed transmissions, or at least a gravel crusher.
Deburring was overrated,it'll wear in 😂😂
Bro lets get a new video
throw a 670 v-twin in it
well, thats socialist engineering. The car, not your changes. ;)
This kind of stuff is exactly why I come here. Have you checked out the swaps by @robotcantina8957 ?
How fast does it go?
