Over the past 2 months I've done "OMAD" drinking 'bulletproof' coffee first thing in the morning and electrolyte mid-day, followed by my meal at 6pm, usually wild-caught salmon and a medium bowl of salad with fruit salad and Greek yogurt for dessert. I've lost all the fat, my waist went from 35" down to 28"... My Skin looks a little crinkled. Should I start eating more meals a day?

I'm now taking the Euvexia electrolyte drink every day and am feeling great. I compared with some of the other similar mixes and as far as cost for what's in it, this IMHO is the best. The others always seem to leave something out, one mineral or another, and I'm a fan of Dr Sten and I know each of these ingredients are very important.
Especially, last summer, when I was camping and sweating a lot, this mix was so rejuvenating. 👌😃

@@Lisa-mr7pj I did a 72 hour fast a few weeks ago. My reason was that I had some lingering Covid symptoms and I was aiming for that reset in my body in the hopes of letting go of those symptoms. And I am happy to say it worked, which is remarkable and I am grateful. I have to say, I never reached that point of "not being hungry" that I hear so much about. I'll drink water with an Activated Charcoal supplement between meals.
I'll add later Himalayan salt with potassium, Vit D and a magnesium supplement.
Or I'll use an Orgain Keto product powder adding about 20+ vitamin supplements.
I still manage to measure a trace of Ketones daily by eating OMD. If I fall asleep and push towards 30 hours without a full meal, I'll get a small ketone reading.
Adding Psyllium husk also helps feed the millions of microbes in your gut to limit hunger.

I am pretty sure that the coffeols in coffee are digestible and therefore do not have zero cal. I like a glass of water with a little powdered vitamin C for its nutrition and taste. As a beginner two tips to get going are 1) fast only on the weekend or when on holiday so you can get warm and sleep more if you need to - it can get you over an initial lack of energy situation, 2) fast during the summer, it is easier because the body's need to maintain core temps is easier

    • @drekberg
      @drekberg  3 місяці тому +29

Thank you @MyMy-tv7fd. I have not found any evidence of that. While coffee is often quoted as having 5 calories per cup, that is probably due to it having 1.2 grams of fiber which would give 4.8 calories if we could digest it, which of course we can't. It contains about 0.1 g of lipids and 0.1 g of protein, which could give about 1 calorie. On the other hand caffeine is a stimulant which probably causes the average person to burn off some extra calories, even though the effect has a diminishing return with habitual coffee drinking.😄

One interesting thing about fasting, for me, is how thirsty I'm not. I have to force myself to consume water. I understand that, through autophagy, my body is harvesting water from senescent cells.
Consuming too much water, especially when fasting, washes out electrolytes. So it makes sense to include electrolytes when fasting.

I always drink a brand of water Ames Eternal. It has no BPA, a pH of 7.8-8.2 and natural electrolytes.
Water to generally avoid is reverse osmosis because it removes all benefits from the water as it is 100% pure.

The best electrolyte drink is sparkling mineral water, hymalan salt and lime or lemon juice. Instant spark and rejuvenation, works like a battery recharge. My husband and I both do physical work in a very humid environment, and this is our life saver. My husband also takes a separate small bottle of water (plain) with hymalan salt in it that he drinks throughout the day between regular water on extremely hot days .

Thank you @representmanila1976. It doesn't really matter what the vinegar is made from. It is the acetic acid that is responsible for most of the benefits. It is more of a flavor preference. 😄

Hi Dr. Ekberg, what if you are exercising while fasting, should you add a bit of salt to your electrolyte powder drink? Dr. Berg said that you need more salt then. What about if you are just lifting weight and not sweating as much and it's winter time? Does it revolve around how much you are sweating or does the body just use more salt when you exercise period? Thanks you so much for you hard work. I watch every video.😁👍

Doc, I have been doing fasting for years, & it's been amazing. It's helped me in many ways. After experiencing the benefits, I recommended the same to my father. Unfortunately he has high uric acid & we don't know how it'd affect him, & whether he's at a risk of a gout attack. He has NAFLD because of his lifestyle in the past, & I really wish he could benefit from the benefits of fasting. He's 67. Can he, or not?

  • @tonynes3577

Hydration and staying hydrated is especially important if you have insufficient kidney function, reduced kidney function. And water is definitely most important for the kidney. Your creatinine (waste product of the body) will go up with less water and you don't want to stress out your kidneys any further. Tea and coffee are also good for fasting but the diuretic effect of them will make you lose a bit of water. Thanks Dr!
