      Oh, i can't agree with you. Many things are not explained in the trilogy! Dashner had a good idea for the story, but he couldn't finish it. He left a lot of issues unsolved. 1st book was good, 2nd was meh.. and the 3rd as better then 2nd, but also meh. I was really disappointed. And the 4th one is not explaining anything from the trilogy either...

    • @ronan_42
      @ronan_42 9 років тому +27

      No, in this case the books are shit as well. First 25% of the first book were really promising, but then it got gradually dull and contrived. The ending's like in the movie, pure idiocy. The second book isn't even worth mentioning.
      I haven't seen the movie but from this trailer it looks like it's fairly close to the book, which is not a compliment for once.

    • @AlmightyBeing
      @AlmightyBeing 9 років тому +11

      A lot of the questions are still unanswered after reading the first book, so some of them were on purpose and are gradually explained and revealed throughout the series or when the protagonist discovers them. So your not meant to know what's going on really.

      it was for a experiment needed to examine the brains of the children. Some are immune to the virus others are not. All of there brains are monitored till they find the one child they need to harvest. The maze is simply a situation made to trigger chemicals in the brain that could lead to a cure to save humanity from the flare. Wich was not caused by the sun flare but by mankind in an attempt to lower population since supplies were to Low but it became incredibly contagious wich led to the maze being made.

      I am certain that this movie would, in the real world, end with exactly one surviving boy having sex with the girl. Let's be honest here. A bunch of teenage boys, with no adult figure, no memory, and no aggression outlet, is a recipe for horrible, horrible things. Wait three years and throw a girl into the mix, and you'll have an instant bloodbath. There is nothing more clever, ruthless, and straight up unstoppable, than a teenager with a boner.

      @darksceptre7 9 років тому +9

      +Axelle Fructus Well if that's the basis, there's a lot more to put up on the title. So no.
      Probably because, as the Honest Trailer said in the "YA" tropes part, the Divergent, Hunger Games, and Maze Runner series all have:
      -A good looking hunk/hunkette protagonist
      -An evil government with officials dressed in white
      -Something that happened in the past so that everyone has to live with grimy, dirt covered clothing
      -A good actor
      In addition, some more things not mentioned there
      -Dystopian future where sheeple gawk about being oppressed by the government
      -The protagonist is picked up off of a downtrodden society then suddenly turns into a baws fighter because PLOT
      Then again, maybe the books explain it better, but there's really that glaring similarity between the three of these series. o-o

    While yes the books are very, very good and well thought out how does everyone seem to forget how bs the last one was.
    The ending was basically:
    You're all immune to the flare and this whole thing was a convoluted plot to get all the immune people together so they can start humanity anew.
    WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST DO THAT AT THE START GOD DAMN IT !!!!!!

    • @moishethebeadle96
      @moishethebeadle96 9 років тому +10

      Lmao, exactly. What a shitty ending. I can't believe they killed off Teresa, the 2nd most important character, 7 pages before the series ended and it has practically no effect on Thomas at the end, despite her saving his life and always being with him. Yet when Newt is killed (though I do understand that him and Thomas were best friends and Thomas murdered him in cold blood) it had a clear and massive effect on Thomas' conscious throughout the entire book. And to have Teresa just die like that, so quick and sudden, with no mention of it again?
      Not to mention Brenda, that stupid bitch. Nobody explained her relation to the Flat Trans at the end. I'm betting that she is actually Chancellor Paige.
      Whatever. The book left too many questions unanswered and it actually saddens me that Teresa died and nobody spoke about it or cared about it at all. Not to mention Newt and the others and how they end up in "paradise" while WICKED obtained the data that they had after the FIRST FUCKING BOOK.

    there is one strange part you missed. The maze is 3 years old, every month there is a new kid in the maze, that is 3x12=36 so there only could be 36 kids. if you look good at the wallscene where all those names are at the beginning of the movie you see there are already 5 names crossed out, that means there are like 31 kids left. When the grievers invade the camp you see at least 100 kids run criss cross and eventually die...
    EXPLAIN THAT!

    I can see the resemblance between all 3 movies, but I'm pretty sure The Maze Runner is WAAAY more elaborate than THG and Divergent. Trust me I'd know because I read all 3 sagas. I hate when people just bash on the books/movies because they 'think' theyre all the same. THG and Divergent revolve around bad politics, The Maze Runner is actually a bit more interesting. And the reason every answer in the movie leaves 2 more questions to ponder about, is because theres a whole network of shit happening around the Gladers that they arent aware of, thus us not knowing anything because we are placed in their shoes. Everything gets answered in the end though so if u really wanna know, keep watching the movies or reading the books or both, like me. I think this book to movie adaptation is better than most, so Id give it a chance. I love Honest Trailers tho, and this one is just as funny as the rest.

    • @DeadsvilleFilms
      @DeadsvilleFilms 9 років тому +41

      Conor Beggs What BakuTex is saying is the audience shouldn't *have* to reference back to the source material to have a proper appreciation for the adaptation. Its like, okay think Marvel Cinematic Universe, you don't have to have read the comics for that to make sense. It's a strong standalone work based on an established story. That's what *any* adaptation should be, we shouldn't have to read the original work and then watch a sub-par bringing-to-life of that work for the sub-par bringing-to-life to make sense. Because at that point you've read the book, the book is better, and it's your own vision of the story instead of some randy who's just casting for looks. Watching the movie becomes superfluous, and with a good adaptation reading the book should be superfluous as well. It might make you *want* to read it but not reading it shouldn't be a detriment to your viewing of the movie, in spite of the fact that it almost always is. So "read the book before reviewing the movie" is not a valid defense: they should be able to stand separately and the movie should be able to stand on its own two legs.

    • @DeadsvilleFilms
      @DeadsvilleFilms 9 років тому

      Alright, but what you said was "what" in response to the OP saying an adaptation should be a solid story on its own. Hence the confusion here I guess.
      I mean fair enough but the question should at least be raised by the characters rather by the audience. If *they* don't think it's weird that there was a meadow when just outside it's desert for miles around and it seemed by all accounts that they were outside the whole time, then it seems like nothing more than a lack of consistency to the audience. I mean why even wait to reveal that it was underground? That's not some massive revelation, it comes across like a retcon after fans noticed an incongruity. It could have easily been addressed in the video after the Maze Runners reach the facility that they were "X miles below the surface."

      SPOILERS!!!
      The griever question, I have no idea. I guess they just gave a name to whatever kills off the people who get lost at night.
      The rain in the maze, they're in a dome that controls the weather and shit. Didn't they have the part from the book where the sky goes dark and the rain stops, and they can see they're in a dome?
      The girl thing, no idea. I wondered that myself.
      The scientists are messing with all the teens in the maze because apparently they need to map their brains and evoke a ton of different emotions to find the cure, but it's revealed in the last book was that they only needed to take the brain out of one kid and study it (kill 1 kid to save humanity, or kill a ton by putting them through elaborate tests? Hmmm...)
      And the virus was released by the "evil government" as population control because the earth wouldn't have enough farmable land after the flare to hold the growing population. They try and only wipe out a small area but somehow the virus goes world wide and things get screwed, so they find teens that are somehow immune and use them to find the cure.
      The end.

      You're are correct that the books are different, however the problem is that the people who wanted to adapt this movie didn't want to do it because of the books. The way they see it was like this, Hunger Games = Popular movie, Popular movie = Money, Book series that has a passing resemblance to the Hunger Games = Make into movie, Plot not enough like the Hunger Games? = Make it more like the Hunger Games, At the end of it all? Profit.

      My cousin is the same, except he stopped growing at 4ft 6". He has to take his passport to any cinema other than his local one where most of the staff know him. If he goes to a different cinema and forgets his passport they won't let him see a 15 rated movie as he looks 13-14 but is actually 28. When his girlfriend holds his hand in public they look like mother and son (she is only 26).

    So, in the mind of the intellectually superior 15 years old "book lovers" I should read the book so that I could judge the movie. So by that line of thinking, I have to read the 6 books from R. R. Martin so that I can say that Game of Thrones is good, and I need to read the Lord of Rings books so that I can judge it. They are SEPARATE MEDIA. The movie is shit, have so many plotholes you can't count them with fingers, and its so bad you actually need to rely to its source material to make it "looks" good. No good adaptation makes you read its source material so that you can understand the story. Its like that with Lord of the Rings, its like that with Hunger Games, its like that with Harry Potter, with Game Of Thrones, with 2001, with Under the Dome, with It and even the shitty Divergent clarified the viewer doubts until the end.

      I was reading this one book called Never Say Die which is basically about this man who gets trapped by the Japanese army as a POW during WW2 and he along with many other soldiers went through indescribably horrible conditions and basically had to do whatever they could to survive. He mentioned in one part of the book about how thoughts about women never really crossed his mind during those 2-3 years because he just never got the chance to think about such luxuries. It's basically like thinking about chocolate cake when you're in the middle of a war. It just doesn't really make any sense when you're just trying to survive and get back home. For us, it's easy because our basic needs are taken care of. We have a solid roof over our head, clothes on our back, food on our table and we can think about crushes and sex and all that. But it didn't surprise me at all that they weren't trying to flirt with her when they were seeing their friends die for some kind of social experiment.

    • @towelgirl21
      @towelgirl21 9 років тому

      Anonymous Specimen Yeah, but he might think about women a little more if one was basically tossed into his lap. Ditto for the cake.

    • @rainywoex5035
      @rainywoex5035 9 років тому

      towelgirl21 I don't think so. I mean, personally, if everything was going wrong like the supplies weren't coming back up, the doors weren't closing, no more gladers were coming like they used to, I would be worried about being alive and finding my way home, not some girl. Not even Thomas was that interested, he was just trying to calm the situation and figure out whatever he could from her. Also, I don't think the people who produced the movie would even want to go down the romance, love triangle route, at least not in the first film. Too many action movies are already clouded by these lameass side romances.

    This is the ONLY time I have ever said this but I think I preferred the second and third movies to the books! The novels felt like they were going around in circles and like nothing ever productive happened. In scenes that were supposed to be sad (Newts death for example) things went so fast I didn't even have time to comprehend what was happening let alone shed a tear! I think that although the movies strayed from the original plot it actually saved the series for me. Everything was so much clearer and the actions of characters made more sense.

    (spoiler alert) here is the answer to all questions made by the unfaithful movies:1 The flare didn't come from the sun, it was man made to control the population after the sun flares hit. The maze has a ceiling.2 The doors had windows that let the gladerss see the grievers. Speaking of grievers, the book says that they are yellow slug like creatures that had metal rods coming from them. Some rods had claws, some had lights, some had buzz saws, and some were pointy at the end. 3most importantly, they were put in a maze to study the brain's reactions to extreme situations to figure out why the immunes were immune to the flare

    The funny thing is all the questions he is yelling about get answered it the next two books and the prequel (4th and final book) James dashner wanted people to be shouting about those things to urge them to keep reading and figure out how it all makes sense *spoiler alert* If you dont wanna know how all this works out please dont read.... so basically what happened was a massive solar flare burned one half the earth and left the other half scorched and 1/8 of the population remained, since there was now limited resources part of the 1/8 of the population (the government and military forces) designed a virus to kill off most of the remaining population to reserve resources, however after the virus was released it became out of control and starting killing everyone but soon people were starting to be born immune to the virus, (almost everyone in the glade) after research WICKED (world in catastrophe killzone eperements department) found out it had something to do with brain patterns and a certain section so they designed an underground test chamber (the maze aka glade) that was designed to test every single part of the brain in the immune people so they could watch their brain patterns through chips implemented into thier skulls so there you have it the next book wicked does the same thing but in an entirely different environment and in totally new ways and everytime the gladers think they escape it all turns out to be part of the plan to find a cure that mankind created itself, there is so much more and it gets so much better but its late just thought I would prove everyone who said this movie made no sense.... right XD this movie is supposed to make no sense to encourage you to go watch the next one and see if it does, and slowly (at least over the course of the books) it all comes together and let me say.... its quite the feels trip
