      +Able D-G But... I don't really think that was all that essential to the story. Sure, the characters saw it that way, but the tesseract that allowed him to send the message wasn't "created by love" or some shit, that's not what happened. They said "they" created it and realized "they" are not an alien species but beings that mankind will eventually evolve to in millions of years. I really liked that idea. The whole theme about love transcending spacetime was only figurativiely used as an explanation by the characters but from the viewers perspective not literally.

    "From the director who apparently gets a lifetime pass cause he made The Dark Knight."
    It's a shame, cause I don't think Nolan ever asked for this kind of attention! You got people obsessing over him like he's the next Kubrick, and then you got people that simply think "his movies suck! He's so overrated" just cause they see his films through this lens of cynicism for the sheer fact that there ARE people obsessing over him like he's the next Kubrick!! You follow me?
    Like, his movies are totally fine! I'd even say there all great! They're character-focused features that, in my opinion, do a great job making me care about the protagonist's journey! Are they perfect? No! (Cept Memento) But he's good at his job at creating worlds and stories an audience member wants to explore. That's all he's trying to do! He doesn't go into a project saying, "How am I gonna get them to love me this time?!"
    So, in the future, don't put down someone that doesn't like what you like cause you think they 'didn't get it', and don't allow yourself to not enjoy a film cause some people think the Messiah made it. I mean come on! There are bigger problems in our world! For example, some people defend the Star Wars Prequels cause "all true fans like ALL the Star Wars films!" FUCK THOSE GUYS!!

    • @jackryan9183
      @jackryan9183 9 років тому +16

      Nolan set out to make a "Kubrick" film. HE has said that this was the main influence for Interstellar. HE has made the comparison. Not others. Follow me? And when the Nolan fan boys started threatening the film critics with harm and death who didn't like Nolan's third batman movie, Nolan defended them calling them "passionate". And yes, there is a part of Nolan that does indeed like the attention and acclaim.

      "From the director who apparently gets a lifetime pass cause he made The Dark Knight."
      It's funny because all his movies after TDK are critically praised. I would say that after Nolan's huge success people began to hate on his movies and trying to find the smallest plot holes and weird nitpicking. But the majority love his movies, that's a fact. Not just people but critics also.

When you watch the movie you don't notice the music, That's how perfectly it's submerged in the atmosphere. Interstellar is 40% music and 60% everything else.

      when they get to the first planet, the one closest to the singularity, they're concerned about time passing far quicker on Earth than there (on a 1 hour = 7 years ratio). They struggle to minimize the time loss. Things go avry, then develop from there.
      My thought on that: "problem solved. We don't need a new planet. Bring humanity here, no need to land, just stay in low orbit for a couple months, then go back to Earth, where nature will have fixed herself like she always does since 10 000 years will have passed. Then recolonize our 3rd rock from the Sun."

    not to mention that figuring out gravity has nothing to do with solving the problem of the fungus and the food shortage. the fungus has a good chance of finding a way onto cargo to the space colonies if there's so much of it that it can make the atmosphere unbreathable within a few human generations, and half the photosynthetic capabilities of the planet is in the ocean. putting aside all the plot holes and unrealism that comes with most hollywood scifi, it was still a visual experience with good actors and OST.

      they needed antigrav to launch huge O'Neill Cylinders for a mass migration as their Plan A. their Plan B was sending the astronauts to start an IVF colony. but logically the Plan A would be to kill the fungus, and the former A and B would be B and C. maybe they gave up on the fungus, or someone else not shown in the movie was working on a solution.
      it's like if there was a kind of inextinguishable fire that engulfed the entire block you lived on, you drive few streets away in a car that only holds 1 person. your family is supposed to build their own car to escape, instead of figuring out how to put out the fire, but they're missing part of the blueprints. you might find the missing info from outside, but you have no known way of calling home. and also there's a chance that the fire is hiding in your trunk, or the trunk of any cars that get built in your house.

    I love reading all the comments from people who don't understand physics... or science... it's so enlightening, in so far as how shitty our education system is anyway. Really though... do most of you even bother to look up the science behind the movie? Or the opinions of various well known and well regarded physicists who praised the films accuracy? I've learned a great deal about relativity and physics, and the movie is as accurate as can be, up until the black hole comes in (or more accurately, when Coop goes in). That is the only time this movie does not strictly follow science (except the frozen clouds, *that* was impossible). The only reason that it doesn't follow the laws of physics, or any laws for that matter is because no known laws actually adhere when one enters a black hole. The laws of physics break down at that point. Anything beyond is speculation, and thus it could very well hold a "tesseract"... hell it could hold mighty Cthulu for all we know... So please, if you'd like to shit on the movie, find actual reasons that you can back up, ones that weren't directly assessed *in the film*. *for the record this comment is not directed towards Screen Junkies, I laughed at their video the same as everyone else. This goes to commenters*

      sd86it No they couldn't. They were prone to failure after extreme periods of time (as they were re purposed), and, as Prof. Brand said, they are incapable of making decisions like a human, such as the reentry on Miller's planet. Coop saved almost the entirety of the ships fuel by waiting until the last second, while Tars wanted to fire the thrusters immediately. Also they wouldn't have understood the precious nature of time on Miller's planet, and would most certainly have also gone for Mann's planet, and would have been disabled and the mission failed. Also neither of the robots could do extremely precise tasks (in so far as picking up and placing things), so the colony wouldn't work, as they would have to place each sample in an incubator one by one. It was simply too complex a job for the Robots to do on their own... also why wouldn't you want them to be there to make sure things go smoothly? (also Brand wanted his daughter to survive). Honestly there are so many reasons for it that bringing it up is simply pointless...

    I liked the Honest Trailer for the most part, even though I loved Interstellar (I know it has some flaws, and I can laugh about them) but when you said "It's not that we don't understand it, it's just really stupid" you lost me there.
    First of all, I miss the times when a Honest Trailer tried to actually seem like a trailer, not talking directly to the audience or taking a definitive stand in favor of or against a movie (even though I am the first to say the Hobbit movies were disappointing, their Honest Trailer was just cheap shot after cheap shot, just making fun of the movie in a mean way, not a HONEST way or funny way). Now they have their recipe for Honest Trailers, and they just have to tweak the ingredients to fit the movie they're talking about. Still fun, but not as hilarious as their first videos.
    Second of all, how is it really stupid ? You didn't explain that at all. And you say you did understand it, but if you go watch the movie fights where you talked about it, that was clearly not the case (maybe you've understood it since, but still, the initial comments saying you didn't get it were pretty justified).
    It feels like if you explain everything, it's a good movie ; if you explain nothing and leave everything to interpretation (like in 2001: a space odyssey) it's a masterpiece ; but if you explain some and leave some to interpretation, you're full of plot holes.
    What Interstellar explained, it explained well. What it didn't explain wasn't meant to be explained. And no, it wasn't stupid.

    I think it's the spiritual/emotional ideas mixing with the science that made it seem stupid to a lot of people. • @MrPhilsterable
      @MrPhilsterable 9 років тому +17

      It wasn't stupid. The only part that should be testing peoples suspension of disbelief is the idea of surviving a black hole and experiencing a second time dimension. But, considering it's science fiction, and they did pretty good on what it would actually probably look like if it happened, and the rest of the movie was one of the most accurate space movies ever, I'm willing to give that a pass as the fiction part of the science.

      ***** Id say it was stupid. Effects 10/10, Story 8/10 up to matt damon dying, 2/10 everything after. I felt the representation of the 5th dimension and how he got there was alright but going with the flow of the movie did not fit. The trying part was attempting to carry the love overcomes all theme throughout the movie. Also it may have been better for me to see the apparent 3:15h full cut.

    OMG i fucking died when he said "A Baked Potato"! lol but seriously though, i'm glad Honest Trailers didn't say the movie was terrible or anything like i was thinking they sadly would. Sure, that ending is a little like "what? omg like, what? this is crazy!" but that doesn't mean it wasn't exciting though lol i also did notice the organ got a little TOO loud at points, but it also did add this sort of emotional effect to the scene. Overall, a think the movie was amazing, but a bit flawed (like any movie! i mean seriously, if you've learned anything from CinemaSins, it's "No movie is without sin". Let's just hope he doesn't hate this movie like some people, and does the same as Honest Trailers and only shows that without trying to say the movie was bad. lol but yeah, Jeremy's probably gonna rip that ending apart though....lol but come on, people! This movie doesn't deserve the hate it gets (especially from the regular moviegoer). And if you say "there aren't that many people who dislike this movie!", think again or look harder. lol

    • @alexiz0013
      @alexiz0013 9 років тому +2

      Also, the movie isn't overrated (like people are saying) because of this. Overrated means A LOT of people (a serious majority) love the movie and say it's the best thing ever, while the movie really doesn't deserve even near as much praise as it's getting (*cough* FROZEN *cough* most overrated movie of all time *cough*)

    • @COD8player4life
      @COD8player4life 9 років тому

      Alexiz001 Overrated/underrated is just people thinking the movie is better/worse respectively than it is, what you're describing is a crime against humanity (cough Frozen cough cough).

    • @docdave15
      @docdave15 9 років тому +3

      Alexiz001 No I'd say there are ton of people who are praising this movie, to use your own words, you just have to look.
      While there are a lot of aspects about Interstellar that are good, what killed it for me were the Nolan fanboys. Not regular fans but the fans who were like "OMG THIS MOVIE IS AMAZING! If you didn't get it then you're stupid!" Which I know is probably unfair but the fanboys can't seem to accept the fact that not every single solitary person likes his movies or that they dared point out a flaw in the script. And sure those type of people exist in EVERY fanbase but the Nolan ones are extremely vocal to the point where it gets annoying.
      Also, the scientific aspect is not an issue to me in a movie. If scientific accuracy was an issue I'd hate every sci-fi film out there.
      And say what you will about Frozen but it didn't beat the audience over the head with on the nose dialogue and didn't explain the message to the audience. Which has always been my biggest problem with any film, when they decide to dedicate a whole slew of dialogue to overtly explaining their movie/message.
      Frozen has sadly become a marketing and merchandise but for me it's still a good film with a tight story that is a lot more complex, good songs (except that stupid troll song), and some good and memorable characters (though I could deal with a lot less Olaf).

    The time travel part is not a paradox. If you view time as a series of events in a closed system, A leafs to B, B leads to C, all events in time remain the same; thereby, interaction from the future is possible, as it happened, is happening, and will always happen.
    Time cannot change, just our perception of it.

    • @VeldOfRoses
      @VeldOfRoses 9 років тому +26

      Ncyphen It is a paradox, in that it has no cause. This can be difficult to think about, but I visualise it thus: the only reason he goes to space station place is because he went to the space station place i.e. that the future caused the past, which in turn causes the future, in a cyclic manner. We therefore arrive at the statement: he only goes if he goes. This is a tautology, as obviously he only goes if he goes. In other words, the only reason that this sequence of events could occur is if he went to the space station place anyway for other, unrelated reasons. Since no such reasons presented themselves in the movie, he had no non-cyclic reason to go to the space station place, which would be required for him to tell himself to go to the space station place: thus, a paradox.

    • @Jhonka8807
      @Jhonka8807 9 років тому +4

      Ncyphen This is exactly what I try to tell people. If you experience spacetime as demonstrated in the teserract scene then you experience all points of spacetime simultaneously. Ergo, the "humans" from the future as always createing the black hole and the teserract.

    • @BuzzKillingtonS13
      @BuzzKillingtonS13 9 років тому +1

      Jhonka8807 If you are thinking of 3 dimensional space/time you would be incorrect. Visualize the 4th dimension as a line extending from 3d space. On this line we see every state our universe will be in from start to finish we call this line "time"
      So what is the 5th dimension then? If we split the 4th dimension into another parallel line we can then intersect other 4th dimensional lines and alternate "time lines" What if there are entirely OTHER 4th dimensional lines where events played out differently, or different particles had different vectors and momentum (butterfly effect)
      5th dimensionally this is NOT a paradox, you are thinking of a single 4th dimensional line represented in 3d space.

    • @BuzzKillingtonS13
      @BuzzKillingtonS13 9 років тому

      BuzzKillingtonS13 This is precisely why they made the region of space "5th" dimensional and NOT 4th dimensional. you should already understand this. Going back in time in the 4th dimension and changing your current 4th dimensional line would be a paradox. Skipping to an ENTIRELY different 4th dimensional line entirely solves this problem, and you would need to fold through the 5th dimension to do this.

    • @Jhonka8807
      @Jhonka8807 9 років тому

      BuzzKillingtonS13 I don't think that this film had a paradox. Space time is a combination of 3 dimensional space plus the 4th dimension of time. You talk about seeing other spacetime lines, but if you think about it a 5th dimensional being would see an infinite number of spacetime lines, or a plane of spacetime. This means that a 5th dimensional being could walk along a new vector of "spacetime" which intersected other parallel lines of 4th dimensional spacetime. I am glad that someone else can think about 5th dimensional space like this. I got in an argument with someone insisting that a 5th dimensional beings still depends on our 4th dimensional definition of causality.

    I quite liked a lot about interstellar but the "Love Dimension" kinda pissed me off. Not to mention how he survived crossing the event horizon of a black hole. The idea of a tesseract isn't that big of a deal but he had to cross an event horizon. He literally would have been pulled and stretched to the point of death the second he hit the event horizon. So even with the interference of future humans it doesn't make sense how he passed through, why not just remove the black hole in the first place?

    • @Vegetablefather
      @Vegetablefather 8 років тому

      Drew Russell Well the theories are based off of gravity right? A gravitational force so strong light can't escape it's true what would really happen is a bit of a question but they can make very educated guesses. Also according to calculations done time dilation around a black hole is no where near as bad as shown in the movie. If you were to orbit the nearest black hole it would be a 2:1 time dilation (or close to it)

    • @sc00f
      @sc00f 7 років тому +11

      Well it was a so-called "supermassive black hole" (SMBH). Since they're much larger than "regular" black holes and hence having more distant event horizons from their center, "in theory" one could potentially survive crossing the event horizon, unlike with "regular" (stellar-sized) black holes. But still likely to die a little later, presumably.

    • @wills2140
      @wills2140 7 років тому +7

      @sc00f There is no way any human can survive approaching a black hole of any kind. The massive amounts of heat, x-ray radiation, gamma rays, accelerated particles and gravity would destroy any human or space craft, long before getting near the event horizon.
