@@gregvancom just make sure that people understand that if you roll up 45 or 22 degree that fixture has to have a vent on same plane as fixture or your breaking vent.

This is incredible! Thank you for another great video! I wilk be doing a 2 story garage addition to my house either mid 2022 or 2023. The information here is really great! If i could subscribe twice i would!
Best of luck and you're welcome.
Newbie here. I have a degree in biology but love to do home projects! Thank you for making such great lectures ! Never realized how fascinating and technical plumbing is.
You're welcome and keep learning.
Thank you for the video, It was helpful. I noticed that you have a sanitary tee on its side connecting the shower & sink to the toilet which is not permitted. On the 2nd floor you use a wye for the vent, It looks like the fittings were just used in the wrong place. The 3x3 by 2 wye fitting on the 2nd fl should be on switched with the one on the 1st fl. Then use a bushing and vent 90 on the 2nd fl slightly rotated. With your space constraints it might benefit stepping the 2nd fl tub pipe down to 1 1/2 also using a sanitary tee with a 1 1/2 vent 90 which gives you a tight turn giving you more clearance where you have space constraints.
I hope these comments are taken the wrong way I really appreciate your videos they are informative and I learned from this video as I do all you're videos.
I checked it out and it looks like I need to redraw the fitting or I might have grabbed the wrong one. I did make another video with part descriptions that might be more helpful. ua-cam.com/video/YS8rRVhAEKs/v-deo.html

Welcome!
I have a straight down 4" ABS and fell the drop force might be too strong and though a slight turn on middle would be better - comment for you mentioned the part. I now consider my kitchen sewer goes above floor under kitchen cabinet (4" kick foot area), goes bathroom to merge to tub/toilet where are the only sunken area of slab foundation - I mean I don't pour concrete on bath sewer but leave small crawl or no crawlable space for them. Any suggestion?
Thank you

Ty horizontally laying down second story
Yes.
Logical thinking at the start makes it easier to fix unexpected things, and if there was any, likely to be minor. No one wants to do a rebuild from a missed problem.
Great video! At 4:18, it appears there is a 4"x2" santee on it's side? To pass inspection, would a 4"x2" combo be better served here?
Keep up the good work...love the vid!
ua-cam.com/video/YS8rRVhAEKs/v-deo.html I made a video with parts list, just in case someone didn't like my parts. Thanks for helping.
its fine if its vertical
Thank you for sharing video I,I had noticed a several things needs to fix it .sanitary T on the side ,needs why also for vet went you can not roll that at the 45 degree angle should be on the same horizontal line with just 1/4 grade, another thing on the change in direction of the horizontal develop length can't be more that 2 ×45
You're welcome and feel free to point out the other 4 problems:) Some one already mentioned the roll in the wet vent, which is the only problem I found after making the video and will be making a follow up video to correct it. As far as the san tee, it's a combo sweep, but I would appreciate any plumbing codes you have on the 2- 45 connecters instead of a long sweep connector.
can a 3 in long sweep combo wye be used to connect the 2nd floor DWV horizontally to the vertical 3 in vent pipe coming up from the 1st floor DWV plumbing and then continue the vent vertically thru the roof?
Pretty simple …if I have to reroute the pipe running above the basement ceiling,I have to use 2(45 deg )to achieve 90 deg ????
Thank you for answering
I'm not sure what you're doing, but would suggest contacting your local building department for more information or email me a picture.
thanks! where is you water system video?
I think the closet wall could be built with 2x6 and the plumbing then ran down the wall rather than through the ceiling and then down the wall. I believe the other bathroom plumbing could still be hooked up. Interior wall could be built to accommodate the plumbing
Go for it.
What should be done if a house has no air vents anywhere. Will installing air admittance valves on all 3 bathroom sinks and 1 kitchen be ok ?
The wall behind the tub and shower valves should be bear . If you ever needed to change the valves or housing you would have a sheet rock wall to cut into replace sheet rock or put a vent . This avoid having to cut shower stall material such as marble man-made marble or tile . It’s easy for plumbers to get into the back and reinstall for maintenance any vowels or housing that need to be done they can’t be done in the tub or shower area . Always put shut off valves underneath sinks and kitchen sinks water supplies . This makes plumbing work easier for the plumbers with a lot less labor time .
Please make another video!
Yes you can lay it flat but pick up the toilet first, is called horizontal flat venting only 1 vent for all one complete bathroom, this is for California not to many company’s does it but mine does.
also i would like to then connect the 1st floor 2 in sink vent to 3 in stack above the 2nd floor horizontal to vertical combo wye described in previous post
You can't connect drain to vent. See if this helps ua-cam.com/video/YxcdiqahdIQ/v-deo.html
how do you connect 2nd floor DWV to 1st floor DWV? Do you have to run a separate stack just for venting?@@gregvancom
Would love to see the water line layout. Pex?

Can I prolong the drain pipe 4:57 to have two toilets a few feet apart sitting on the same drain pipe?
Thanks alot for it all!
I would check with your local building codes first, but I've seen more than one toilet on 3 or 4 inch horizontal drain lines.
Quick question ... on the second story drains, you run a vent by turning a fitting 45 degrees, going up a few inches, and then running a horizontal pipe in the joist bay to the wall before going vertical to the roof. Is this an exception to the no horizontal vents unless 6 inches above the flood line of the appliance, in this case the rim of the toilet?
For clairification, at the 7:06 mark you state vents cannot be horizontal, you have to angle it up at least 45 degrees, but then shortly after that the vent pipe runs horizontal in the joist bay to the wall before going vertical again. I would like to do this exact thing on a second story bathroom remodel, but not sure if it violates the 6" above flood rim level for horizontal dry vents? Thank you for any help!
First, I would like to thank you for bringing this to my attention. What I should've said is that the vent pipes cannot come off of the drainpipe perfectly flat and will need to have some slope to it. As far as the 6 inches above the rim of a sink goes, this is usually going to be the standard for any situation where you have another plumbing fixture vent connecting into another vent pipe. The vent pipes can be ran horizontal and sloping 1/4 of an inch per foot towards the drainage pipe system.
@@gregvancom Thank you for the reply! I am putting in a bathroom (WC, lav, BT, shower) over my garage. I have 16" deep wooden I-joists so I have plenty of joist space, and I would rather not drop the drains into the garage ceiling space. I am concerned with the local inspector citing IPC 905.4: "Vertical rise of vent. Every dry vent shall rise vertically to a point not less than 6 inches (152 mm) above the flood level rim of the highest trap or trapped fixture being vented." Maybe there are exceptions ("structurally feasible", etc) that I do not know about, but I do not see how the dry vent can be run horizontally in the joist bay and still be compliant with 905.4. I think I can either run a wet vent from the lav or get creative in routing and get vertical dry vents run until above the flood rim. The problem is having a good vertical wall close by, so the drain pipes may have to have longer runs than I would want to accomodate the vents. I am not a licensed plumber so I want to be ready for any questions the inspector may have for me. If you can think of any code work arounds for horizontal dry vents below the flood level, please let me know. Thanks again, and your videos are very helpful!
Those are very long horizontal runs on some of the drain lines. Could that be a problem?
Did you say there is actually a 1/4 inch per foot downslope on those horizontals?
Yes, a 1/4 minimum is a good slope for all pipes. You should check with your local building department to figure out if long runs will be allowed. Most of the time they allow up to 75 or 100 feet before requiring a clean out.
This how ok for Texas plumbing

@@gregvancom oh wow, great thanks for all your hard work man!
At 5:30 the way you have the toilet plumbed in if someone ran a sewer machine to far and up that wall it’d shatter the toilet. It’s best if possible (and I understand sometimes it’s not) to have it where a sewer machine would travel up a vent stack
Oh yes and if possible, always run the snake in the same direction as the flow of drainage waste. I remember someone sharing a story with me about a drainage snake that came out of a sink and destroyed part of the bathroom.
@@gregvancom ooof that’s rough lol
Hi .
Can you make a video about a raised foundation house plumbing
I have some at our website. www.homebuildingandrepairs.com/home_building/index.html look for house building projects.
I love your channel.
Glad you enjoy it!
When gluing the components together, can you force the pipe to the 1\4" per foot needed?
Not really, but I've made it work before.
@@gregvancom How else can the 1/4" per foot be met?
The tee that does not protrude through the wall is that a test tee?
If it's a clean out, then they can be used for testing.
Let’s press forward

We need a water supply video with the dimensions, please.
Got it.
I'm building a large garage and have the toilet, sink and shower drain in concrete. I can finish the plumbing but now I'm considering adding a bathroom on the 2nd floor. Can this be done? I live in a rural area and the county doesn't seem to be helpful. They don't require inspections or licensed plumbers for the work. So, code doesn't seem to be an issue but I want to make sure it's done correctly. Trying to find a licensed plumber in the area has been unsuccessful.
You can add plumbing for up stairs bathroom, but lower plumbing will usually need to be modified.
Hello how long can a drain vent run horizontally before going vertically up to the roof? Is there a maximum feet for venting.? Using 2” ABS pipe
I’m not a plumber I hope my question make any sense.
This isn't an easy question to answer, because is going to depend upon design and layout of the other plumbing pipes. However, I think it's safe to say that as long as you're not going to making it longer than 5 feet, then you might be safe for practically any situation with a 2 inch pipe. Check with your local building department for clarification on using longer pipes.
@@gregvancom
So the reason I’m asking is because I want to add a bathroom downstairs and there’s an exiting vent that runs up to the roof. The exiting vent is capped off about 20ft away from where I want to add the bathroom. I was thinking to add a sewer injector pump and connect that to the exiting 3” drain and run 2” ABS to the exiting vent that is 20’ away before it elbows up through my upstairs wall to the roof. I guess I can install a new vent but didn’t really want to make a hole on my torch down roof.
Any thoughts on that? Thanks!
don't connect the tub drain to the toilet stack, that creates a lot of sewer gases from the toilet. better to rough in the lines individually
The current code states that the only clean outs you need are on waste stacks, kitchen sinks, and foot vents for island sinks. I would still install c/o's on washing machines and urinals. Bottom line, a readily accessible c/o will never be a bad thing. The more the better. Do not ever use a santee on its back. Always use a wye or a combination tee wye for a vent fitting.
The installation of clean outs usually have a few more rules.

Can you do a wet vent for a toilet in basement?
Probably not. Email me a picture of what you're trying to do and I will provide an opinion. You can get our email address at our website.
Dirty arm for the bathroom vanity upstairs, avoid the line coming out of the floor.
I made mistake, just connect wye horizontal to use as wet vent. If this is not what you meant, provide more details.
I live in an apartment building in which my bathrooms soil stack pipes are being replaced along with the apartment above. The pipes are is being installed below the support beams which will make the ceiling too low, the minimum is 8ft. Running the soil stack pipes below the beams in my bathroom will make my ceiling about 7'5 inches at best with the sheet rock ceiling. I'm no plumber, but why me as a novice can see it (and I warned them) but the plumbers can't? Do they know something I don't? I would love to send you a picture!
You would need to check with local building codes, but most minimum ceiling heights will be around 7 feet.
@@gregvancom Thanks for responding. I did find out, and it's a minimum of 8ft. Just found out by the plumber as I suspected that ceiling will now be about 7'5 inches at best. I warned them, so when the building inspector comes to assess the work completed, I imagine there will be code violations.
Oh, and the landlord showed up to take a look. It's on him.
How would bathrooms that are on top of each other look? Confused on the toilets
I don't have a video on that but put it on my list of videos to be made.
@@gregvancom could the toilets share same vent?

Why the wet vents?
Please help autoimmune disease brain cancer by the old home. The stink pipe coming out of the main sewer line is only about 2 foot tall and is releasing gas into my basement. Need help to understand how to fix it properly. Please help me ASAP would be very grateful God bless you.
Cap it, extend it up through the roof or try installing an air admittance valve. I would extend it if possible.
Prices went down fir a little while, but now there going back up again
Bummmmmer.
How do rats or snakes get into plumbing?
Good question. I've seen them come out of toilets and open sewers, so maybe any opening in the plumbing drains would provide easy access.
is the toilet drain in the same drain as the sink with one vent considered a wet vent?
See if this helps ua-cam.com/video/3GvYhHVtPrc/v-deo.html
Just as a note. Clean outs are not required on a second story or higher
Maybe not for all vertical drains, but for horizontal like those in floors.
