This is a response to a question someone had about connecting a dry vent to a wet vent in project #1 and the first video in a series I plan on making for do it yourselfer's, architects, engineers and plumbers who want to learn more about plumbing drain pipe assembly and building codes.
The plumbing codes in most of this video can be found in the Uniform Plumbing Code Book. Others can be found in International Plumbing or Residential Building Code Books and this seems to be creating more issues that I will address in future videos.

All fittings below the flood rim of the highest fixture must be drainage long sweep fittings
A horizontal dry vent off any fixture is not gonna fly. OSPC says it must be 6 in above the flood rim of the hight fixture before it can change directions.
Yes, the diagrams and explanations are making sense, thank you!
Great to hear!
The only time a vent can go horizontal is if it's in a joyce Bay and there is no other option. You will have to be there with the inspector to look at it otherwise he will fail it
Great video! for example 7, if you didn't have the air vent and you had to install an AAV, where would you add the AAV? On the toilet pipe or the shower pipe? Or both
You cannot go from vertical to horizontal Is below the flood rim of the highest fixture. Must be a minimum of 6 inches above the flood rim
I'm trying to wet vent a lavatory from a dry vent used by the shower and am not sure how long the vertical+ horizontal distances can be because the trap for the lavatory is above the floor. It's hard to locate examples online as most use the dry vent from the lavatory to vent the shower, but not the reverse. Is this possible? What are the maximum distances?
some jurisdictions dont allow for a double wye to be used horizontally
Yes, always check with local codes.
Using a tee or san-tee, can I tie a new sink drain into an existing bath tub overflow drain tube. The new sink has a pea trap and is vented via a studor vent.
I don't think you can connect any separate fixtures to the bathtub over flow.
That's thinking outside of the box forsure tho 🎉
2:34 Why would you ever need to snake your vent? I mean maybe you get it unclogged and the clog travels down the vent pipe?
Liked and subbed, honest question not trying to be an asshole
You could use it to snake the vent, but some times you might need to get into the drain through the roof and that's when you wouldn't want to hit a san tee. Let me know if this didn't make sense.
You're using the vent as an access to the clock that is in the drain because there is no clean out available. Cause a know it all handyman installed the plumbing and doesn't know Jack about anything.
Last example with flat vent is clear violation which you have been explained & shown code sections but still advocate. You said you didn't understand the problem. The reason from the code's perspective is that downstream clogs back up and permanently clog or impair dry flat vents. If you don't agree with the code, I don't know if you should keep telling people to vent in a manner that would get them flagged at inspection
I need to ask, even though no viewers will be able to verify, have you ever installed plumbing pipe that did not meet code, because you did not have enough room or because of floor framing obstacles? Again, I've stated this more than once, check with local building codes before construction.
@@homebuildingandrepairs3122 Yes I have many times when I was younger. That's not an excuse to teach plainly prohibited methods as correct
why didn't you just put the lavy drain closer to the toilet/shower to wet vent the bathroom group and run an arm for the lavy? The shower does not need it's own vent.
Go back and watch our first video for that example.
So question? So is a vent need for a face bowl
Sinks drains do require venting.
I really don't understand why you are putting the vent 16 inches in front of the toilet and also in front of the shower. What's going on?
I will try to avoid doing that in the future and understand it can be can be confusing. I was using the original example to provide dry vent connections to a wet vent. Thanks for pointing it out.
