    This is probably the best, most accurate and realistic UA-cam video on bathroom retrofitting. Most videos shown are in new construction, where everything is open, airy, nice and clean. But that’s not most worker’s reality. Chances are your next job will be in a musty, century-old, moldy basement, with poor lighting. Lol... at last, that’s been my experience.

    I had never done plumbing in my life and I was so chaotic about it. After watching this clip I have the enthusiasm that I can plumb my bathroom. Thanks for this great content. if you could list all the fittings you utilize that would be great.

    Terra cotta? You’re kidding right! The right way to fix that is to spend an hour or two with a jackhammer, open up the slab, dig out that old terra cotta and replace with pvc, then backfill with stone and concrete. You’re setting yourself up for headache down the road otherwise. That old pipe is beyond its useful life.

    Am I correct in assuming you've already finished this bathroom? I believe I seen another video of yours with the same layout where the tub and drywall were already installed? Also, I'm in awe of your quality craftsmanship and the fact that you're willing to work on this older house. After demo, one might be quick to condemn something like this.. instead you persevere and turn this renovation into a gem. I appreciate your commitment to your craft and teaching others that it can be done and done correctly.

    I am glad I found your channel. I am really enjoying this bathroom rebuild you are doing. I own rental properties that I have bought very neglected and have done this exact work on most of them. It is amazing how time consuming it is to completely rebuild something from studs out but it is so rewarding in the end. It is a joy to watch somebody else working just as hard. Nick

      Fern co-makes a gasket they call it a doughnut or a hub gasket that your pipe goes into it then goes into that hub and you tap it down with a hammer and it makes an airtight watertight seal

    Good job, but I'd recommend two things; do not use wyes on vertical dreinages otherwise you'll fail inspection if required and don't use teflon on pvc threads neither.

    I’m a novice planning a bathroom remodel and I’m learning about vent plumbing. Did you use different fittings to connect the other vents into your main stack for a specific reason or because they were what you had on hand? Thanks for all your great content!

    • @BathroomRemodelingTeacher
      @BathroomRemodelingTeacher  Рік тому +4

      It was just for alignment purposes. Using a wye for vent matched the outtake fitting 👍 a really great resource and guy that has an excellent course on this is hammerpedia - www.hammerpedia.com/

    You are a really hard worker. One question, when connecting tub and sinks pipe to the main vertical pipe, why the connecting points are below the toilet’s pipe? Any codes requirements here?

    Never used the hydraulic cement for filling around the pvc going into the cast but What I have done and learned is using oakum and plumber expoxy. You pack the oakum real well and then pack in expoxy and it works well.

  • @62Cristoforo
    @62Cristoforo 3 місяці тому

    I’m always concerned about the condition of joists directly under a tub and how much load they can handle. Think of the weight of the metal or cast iron claw foot tub, and then fill it with water. Now jump in and you’re approaching a half-ton of weight on those 2 X 8’s or X 10’s.

    • @BathroomRemodelingTeacher
      @BathroomRemodelingTeacher  3 місяці тому

      2x10s. What’s crazy is when you get into some of these old homes with a 3-4” mud bed over 2x8. No concern over weight back then 😆

    Id like to do the plumbing myself but to pull a permit Id need to be a licensed plumber unless i own the home. Is there some allowance in a remodel to how much plumbing you can redo without needing a permit?

    • @bigplumber7871
      @bigplumber7871 Рік тому

      No there are no allowances and if you have watched any of his plumbing videos hes not a plumber. But it looks like he has some knowledge. But if he is then OMG! Aside from just fixing a plumbing fixture like repairing a faucet or something you can do that or if you reside in the house you are working on and it's your registered address you can file for a permit as the homeowner. But as soon as you remove fixtures or alter pipe you need to be a licensed plumber and file for a plumbing permit. Or a fixture replacement card. Hes just getting lucky I guess. One thing in his favor is our county is very short staffed in plumbing inspectors right now so hes probably not gonna get caught.

    • @BathroomRemodelingTeacher
      @BathroomRemodelingTeacher  Рік тому +3

    Can we talk about ‘sweat management’?
    My question to you is if you do anything because of the sweat or if you even notice it anymore?
    I share the Irish dna that means I sweat (and swear) a lot during remodelling and it took me a while to learn how to manage it. I wear thick/absorbing shirts and drink plenty but also eat plenty salt. In my younger days the end of a day I’d be deficient. I’m of a vintage too that never learnt about hydration so pee the color of copper pipe wasn’t unheard of.
