In just discovered your channel and watched some videos. I like how you paint with watercolors. I always switch between acrylics watercolors and oils. After watching your videos I want to paint the next paintings in watercolors.
Thank you! You're clever to be able switch between the three. I paint in acrylic but I prefer watercolour. I tried painting in oil once but the fumes gave me headaches and I didn't like waiting for the painting to dry so I haven't tried again.
@@LouiseDeMasi this are the same reasons why I stayed away for long. But now I use Liquin as a "thinner" and drying time shortener. I clean my brushes just with soap. The smell is so completely gone and the waiting time cutted in half. If I work with thin layers I only need to wait over night to have enough grip, for me it's ok. Can't wait for your next video.
Not always Nicole. It depends on what I am painting. Sometimes I paint the shadows last. If I paint a giraffe say... or a zebra or this butterfly, they have patterns, stripes, spots that have to be painted on. If I paint the shadows on after I've painted the patterns, stripes, spots I risk disturbing them. So I paint the shadows first. On a flower or a bird, there are fewer things to disturb so I'll probably paint the shadows towards the end of the painting. When I paint in watercolour I 'paint' the subject in my head before I put brush to paper. Each painting takes planning. Some subjects I won't attempt in watercolour if I can't find a way to paint it in my head first. You can't paint over any mistakes like you can with other mediums so the planning is important. I hope that makes sense.
Oh Louise, how beautiful is the butterfly! It’s so delicate and realistic looking. Thank you for sharing. Helene

Very excited about the insect aspect of this painting! I love painting them myself. Did you take the reference photo for this one?
Thank you! The reference photo was from Pixabay.
Would you recommend always painting the shadows first?
