@xxhunnyy 1. Combine 1 cup of short grain rice, 1/2 cup of sweet brown rice, 1/2 cup of barley rice, and 2 tbs of black sweet rice 2. Wash and drain a couple of times and put it in a pot with a thick bottom 3. Pour 2 1/2 cups of water into the pot and soak it for a few hours. 4. Bring the pot to a boil over medium heat for 10 minutes. 5. Open the lid and turn the rice over with a rice scoop or spoon. 6. Simmer it over low heat for another 10 minutes!
Oh no, Maangchi! The best part is the head! I know many people don't like to look at it, but the head meat has the most flavor, in my opinion. Yum, I can't wait to this, especially the cucumber soup. Thanks, Maangchi!
Hey i made this yesterday (the broiler version) - I was a little apprehensive at fist because of the cooking time, and because mackerel can be so dry - but it worked out perfectly! My partner and I gobbled the whole fish!!! Accompanied by your radish salad! Thanks for the recipes! Thanks to you, Hmart has acquired a new customer in me... They owe you a commission ;)
Wow 12 years has gone by so quickly and been a follower since 2010 and this still one of my favorite recipes. I hope maybe you can a make a updated version and HD
@Mw2Recruit I think it sounds like kongbiji jjigae made with ground soybeans, kimchi, ...It's very healthful and delicious winter stew. If it's not what you are looking for, leave your question on the forum under general discussion on my website. Don't say the word,"vomit", my readers will be angry at you. : )
@ssaemblog yeah, your comment made me laugh! I just left a message on my Facebook about your comment. I can handle fish easily but I don't think I can make Korean blood sausage(soondae). You are not weird.Check my official FB page, maangchi. I just left the comment 2 mins ago! : )

I was surprised Maangchi didn't add a clever comment when she was cleaning Mr. Mackerel's gills at 1:49. Hm, probably something along the lines of: "Maangchi! That tickles when you clean under my gills hehehe" ^___^
I LOVE fish!!! The best thing about living in Japan, Korea and places like Florida any place close to water, you get seafood for cheap! When I lived in florida we ate crab meat like King crab almost everyday. We lived next to a beach where they caught seafood farther off. There was a shack that sold seafood caught fresh from that beach and man, I'd go every day and get some crab, fish or edible plants. So good and got me hooked on seafood. I really wanna try your crab recipe, I have never eaten it like that but I will save it for when I move to Japan as a house warming meal and also as a graduation food for when my family visits. :D
Thank you for sharing your story! You may like this video that I filmed in Mexico. Raw fish bibimbap (Hoedeopbap: 회덮밥) Spicy raw fish soup (mulhoe: 물회)
I love your cooking but was wondering if you have a page of condiments and stuff we should fill our cubbaords with so they are always on hand.. I have made my own Kimchi thanks to you and it is delish. I want to make daboki and bulgolgi but I never have anything on hand, if you can refer me to a page I would appreciate it... I have the hot pepper flakes I have the hot paste , fish sauce and soy sauce and ginger and garlic and sesame seeds but I feel like I am missing a lot.
3:35 Aww Maangchi, you're such a trooper! The oil jumped and looked like it hurt you :( You need a band aid :] By the way, your face looks so adorable when you say "let it cook" after you put the fish in the oven hehe :)
Hi! I am wondering if we need to specify a "type" of mackerel. I ordered mackerel from my fish market in the midwest and we learned it isn't the kind of fish that is used in Korea...different ocean or something? Can you offer some advice? Thank you so much! BTW - I have had so much fun incorporating your recipes into my cooking. You are a delight to watch and I thank you for inspiring me to try so many new and yummy dishes!!
Looks good. For the people afraid of blood and head fish, just buy the mackerel already in filet or ask to the fish department in your supermarket to do it for you (usually, u'll pay a lil extra for that... Thanks, Kamsahamnida
Grill this on a charcoal bbq, and then rub it down with scotch bonnet pepper; it tastes heavenly. The spiciness complements the smoked oily fish really well :)
Hello Maangchi, I would like to learn a recipe but i'm not sure how to make it because all the recipes i have looked up so far is in korean and i am not that fluent in it. Would it be okay to request a way to make 유부초밥? i'm not sure what it's called in american but yeahhh. If you're busy i understand but i would very much appreciate it. Please and thank you !
I love all your recipes but for this one I have to do it my way -I add pepper and salt and squeeze limes on it. Cant eat with the fishy scent on.. . love mackerel and fish too. Plz do some more recipes.
No other seasonings besides the salt? =( I think I would really rather eat this with kimchi(and with rice of course). Due to the lack of seasonings on the fish.
hi maangchi, i've noticed in most of your videos that you use this type of wooden cutting board to prepare fish, pork and beef. how do you clean and/or sanitize your cutting board?
LOL, can I cook my tuna like this? i have a tuna and im considering to cook it tmr! :D will the roasted one be as crispy as the fried one? i'd prefer to eat less deep fried food:D
Not to worry about disgusting Mangchii, me and my family fish mackerel from the ocean every year, I am quite used to fish guts and such. Normally however, when you fish this you throw those disgusting things back to the sea. The seagulls go crazy over them. But how bony is it? The ones we fish have bones practically everywhere, I usually swallow 5 bones every time we eat them. (Doesn't matter though, it's such a tasty fish).
@maangchi what flour are you use??
It is all purpose flour or rice flour or potato starch flour
Yes, it's all purpose flour.
aliz submitted Hungarian caption for my Hungarian speaking viewers! Thank you so much, aliz!
I always order broiled mackerel when I go to Korean restaurants but now I can make it at home thanks to you.

No other seasonings besides the salt? =(
I think I would really rather eat this with kimchi(and with rice of course). Due to the lack of seasonings on the fish.
I recommend lemon juice over the top as a finish.
hi maangchi, i've noticed in most of your videos that you use this type of wooden cutting board to prepare fish, pork and beef. how do you clean and/or sanitize your cutting board?
Regular dish soap or if your unsure about that use bleach then wash regular
