- The Tattooist of Auschwitz debuts on Sky, on 2nd May.
The Tattooist of Auschwitz tells the story of Jewish Holocaust survivors Lali and Gita Sokolov. After arriving at Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1942, Lali (Jonah Hauer-King) was made a Tätowierer (tattooist), and charged to ink identification numbers on fellow prisoners’ arms. Here he meets Gita (Anna Próchniak), leading to a love that defies the horrors around them and a determination to keep each other alive despite the constant presence of volatile Nazi SS officer Baretzki (Jonas Nay).
Around 60 years later, recently widowed Lali (Harvey Keitel) meets aspiring writer Heather Morris (Melanie Lynskey) and finds the courage to tell the world his story.
Scored by Hans Zimmer and inspired by real-life events, The Tattooist of Auschwitz debuts on Sky, on 2nd May.

As a naive young nurse about 27years ago not long after i qualified, I made a lighthearted comment to an elderly Polish Gentleman about the tattoo of his name on his hand. I jokingly asked if that was so he didn't forget his name as i took his blood pressure. I was utterly devastated when he just gave me a sad little smile and told me it was from the camps. I felt so foolish. Never forgot him, his name or the lesson i learned - Leon
Numbers were tattooed on prisoners, not names.
This book made me sob... incredible story of love, hope & resilience...cannot wait for this and Hans Zimmer doing the music will be amazing. May we never forget what happened 😓😓😓
What happened

Just finished watching the Tattooist of Auschwitz on Sky, which tells the true story of Lali Sokolov, a survivor of the Holocaust, who tells his story to Heather Morris, the author. In 2018 novel was published as a work of fiction, it's based on the memories of an actual Holocaust survivor, Lali Sokolov, who met Gita while they were both imprisoned at Auschwitz. But when the novel debuted, historians found a number of puzzling factual inconsistencies.
Nevertheless, let me say from the offset it is not easy viewing. It is.violent, yet riveting, profoundly horrific in parts yet poignant. And the moral to the story is whatever the odds, whatever our differences, love will always survive.
Whatever historians may say about the novel, it nevertheless transcends itself to a powerful piece of TV drama. This is the human race’s inhumanity to each other, we see it timelessly over and over again through violence and through war, fought over our incapability to respect each other’s differences. When will we ever learn that it is better to love than to hate!
After watching series, now I have different dimensions way of looking at Hitler as leader and nazi SS army….either this case of fiction or truth .. both case this shows even evil intentions of Nazi SS army person still he helped this love story( may be 1% of his heart follow love).. helping Mr. Lali.. nobody knew the actual horror happen during that time who are suffered might had clear view.. rest of the world just assuming and creating stories based on talks…
This reminds me of Churchill’ bengal famine during 1943-1944 which lead to approximately 3.8 million Indian died to supply men(army force) and foods for British army. Why no documentary…. Everybody knows about what Hitler did but nobody knows what Churchill did during world war towards colonised countries.
Open question do we are puppet of historians which they feel prioritised specific events but not share each and every event of truths to the worlds..
sometimes differences are the difference between good and evil in that case it is ok to hate , you dont love evil .
My family is Jewish and lost 67 member's during WWII, my mom is Hungarian Jewish, and my Father is Austrian Jewish, Mayer, His mother is Birach, some of them taken to Dachau and some in Auschwitz-birkenau.The tattooist of Auschwitz, book and movie is very extremely conect me with my murdered family by Nazi. Just finished watching it. There's quite a few scenes that will hit you right in the feels. I was fighting back tears a few times.
It is healthier to let the tears flow 🙏 God gave us the ability to express our emotions through tears 🙏
I read the book. Glad they made it in to a movie. Horrible time for humanity.
When was the good times?
"Horrible time", you mean like what is happening since few months ? (not to talk about decades)
And now the Zionists are repeating it.
I tattooed her number on her left arm, and she tattooed her number and name in my heart
Bet it was a 6 digit number like the rest of them, weird thar.
@andymac7584 5 digit or 4 digit depends what number was gave to sokolov to ink
@@andymac7584 Not weird at all
1. There were multiple camps
2. Those sent directly to the gas chambers were not tattooed at all
3. Many Tattoos used letters as well as numbers in order to keep the identifications shorter

1. Those immediately selected to be killed were never tattooed

This is heartbreaking, disturbing, thought-provoking, and leaves you feeling exhausted and terribly sad... It's a hard watch, but what else would a story set in Auschwitz be? Every actor plays their role to perfection, but I have to give a special mention to Jonas Nay as the psychotic SS guard. His performance as Stefan Baretzki is genuinely chilling... A classic love conquers all story, but set in hell on earth.. out of 5 stars, it's a definite 4.5
This was a fabulous film. Should not be missed by anyone.
i dont know why but I cry when i watch it , the love is so strong between Kali and Gita its moving and inspirational

I know there are "facts" not correct in the series, but overall it's a great treatment of their story. I wish they had made a couple more episodes, which covered Lali opening his factory in Bratislava, his subsequent imprisonment by the Soviets, and later his factory in Australia. I didn't mean to binge watch the entire series in one sitting, but it was like a book I couldn't put down.
Absolutely harrowing, what an incredible miniseries. A must-watch guys!
Lali was in his eighties when he met Heather so there would have to be a few discrepancies given the time factor. A truly beautiful sad and inspirational experience and hopefully lessons can be learned from Gita and Lali.
I just can‘t wait for this absolutely brilliant books to appear on the screens!!!
It's not very good ,sorry but there you are cliche ridden virtue signalling box ticking dull,
In love with the actor who played Lali and his dimple ❤
This is like watching The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas all over again 😥
I mean That was actually a great story, the ending was sad but I honestly think that makes the story better because I prefer stories that give emotion
That movie was heartbreaking and made me cry...not many movies/shows make me cry
You can tell they’re softening the horrors of what happened for the movie, including the room he had on the cattle car and how nourished she looked. I guess so it’s more watchable?
I just watched the whole 6 episodes and it was absolutely incredible of course extremely sad and horrific but I loved it.
I had the great pleasure of reading the book on which this film is based. She (book )was outstanding. I hope the movie come on in the middle will be as good
What's crazy is this all truly unquestionably happened
Just started watching it today just finished episode 1 its really good but cant stop tearing up and thinking what my grandmother and great aunt and great grandmother went trough and knowing my grandmother and my great grandmother survived this horrible place is crazy to think and just from episode 1 im in shock and aww cuz it looks like such a good series but its so sad and a tear jerker
I cried reading this book and can't wait to watch the film.
Love, or falling in love is the single most powerful thing - I've written so many songs about it .. I have had many hurtful ones .. I always moved forward writing about them. This movie touched me, and also frustrated me a lot.
The book is incredible - so moving
Great book&movie...They're really true love; He loved her when she had no hair&they through the darkness time together, finally happily ever after😢🙌🫶

The book was full of historic lies and was writen very discrespectfuly
Read the book a few years ago, it was genuinely such a sad but genuinely interesting read for me. The SS were, at best, trigger happy, and I hope the film conveys this.

The book is amazing and very touching. Hope the movie will be good too , the only thing which is putting me off from this trailer is the fact SS doesn’t speak German , without that language true story doesn’t feel realistic.
I need to watch this! Has anyone read The Fifth Diamond? I got to meet her in high school an read her book it's amazing and heart breaking❤
