  • In Auschwitz, gynecologist Carl Clauberg attempted to sterilize hundreds of girls and women. Many died. Some of the last survivors relate their terrible experiences at the death camp.
Almost 80 years ago, Kiel gynecologist Carl Clauberg was given permission by SS-Reichsführer Heinrich Himmler to sterilize hundreds of girls and women in Block 10 at the Auschwitz concentration camp. Clauberg had previously worked with the chemical company Schering-Kahlbaum AG to develop hormone drugs and contrast agents for use in his experiments. "We were called up with our numbers, then Clauberg appeared and injected something into our vaginas. And then they sometimes said: ‘No more children’,” remembers Auschwitz survivor Leny Adelaar.
Carl Clauberg was a leading light in world of reproductive medicine at the time; an ambitious, driven doctor who volunteered his services to the Nazis as a way to further his career. His research paved the way for the invention of the birth control pill. His work on birth control and infertility is still part of the medical canon to this day - but all too often, a veil is drawn over his experiments at Auschwitz.
This documentary records the experiences of the last survivors of those terrible experiences. The women talk about their lives before and after the death camp, about their suffering, their loss and how they managed to carry on living after liberation. Among them were some who were fortunate enough to have children, against all odds.

For some reason this video reminds me of the incident in Saudi Arabia where they found a baby dumped in the airport loo and they rounded up and forced every woman at the airport to undergo a test to prove she wasn't the mother. They performed the medical exam upon them without their consent and against their wishes. They had to do it or be sent to prison. Those women spoke about the fear and humiliation they went through

It's different when something is in your history book versus when it's standing in front of you talking. It's easy to displace ourselves from reality when it's an image on a TV or on pages. When it came to learning about ww2 he actually rounded up a bunch of vet friends both in person and online, and a few of who would have at one time been his enemies to explain the war. Is it the right way to have big companies pay some money?
After that they feel that they have paid their guilt and now all is counterbalanced and over.
Doesn’t remind you this to the selling of indulgences of the Catholic Church ? Can guilt be paid for to remove it? So if the company is big it can whitewash its sins with money but poor ones stay guilty?
      This is a big question!
Does punishment lead to improvement? Is paying money an adequate way?
Sure there have to be consequences!!! Finally it is that one human being who does the crime, the torture and shouldn’t that be the aim to change every single human.
Like today they say: I was told to and it was my duty
So is there any avail to make the company pay some money but leave the individual in his mind set? Probably not.

When I came round and later the painkillers wore off, I was in agony and was doubled over in pain. I can't begin to imagine what those poor women went through with no anaesthetic at all. It's amazing they survived, but thank God they did. I am sure that man who committed these atrocities and died before he went to trial, is rotting in hell. I hope those poor ladies are resting in peace. What amazes me is that I was born in January 1960, 15 years after the end of the war. But now, 15 years ago is nothing, it seems like yesterday. I hope and pray we don't have another world war. It is dreadful what some people do in wars, to fellow humans. Let's all pray for World peace, in these fractious times we live in. My father was 19 at the start of the 2nd World War, and fought for our country and was in the medical corps. He sadly died in 1995, aged 75. My 89 year old mother is still alive, and was a child during the war. Those poor ladies who endured that horror in the hands of sadistic men, were incredibly brave. Rest in peace ladies.

What evil!!!! 😡😔 I’m so grateful for DW. If not for your channel, I would not know about these and other atrocities. We were taught World History in the USA, but nothing about the Holocaust. Thank you for the lessons! ❤

Am amazed that you were not taught about the Holocaust. In the USA of all places - the planet’s bastion of freedom. There’s a huge and brilliant Holocaust Museum in Washington; have you not been there? Am stunned. It is not “ancient” history. I am 80, and was alive for 3 years of it. I hope you will one day be able to visit the museum. What you are learning on UA-cam is mostly accurate and well done, but there is a great deal more to it. Millions of humans cannot be murdered without a great deal of organisation, a great deal of finance, and a gigantic amount of complicity by “respectable” citizens in each involved country.

They were still teaching about the Holocaust when my kids were in school in the '90s. I made sure that all of them learned about it by visiting the displays that used to be in the museums, and also attending the Holocaust museum in DC. They were lucky enough also to have family members that were still alive from World War II that they got to interview and hear it straight from them about the atrocities. I did the best I could to teach my children. Unfortunately one of them is completely woke and brainwashed and denies everything now. The colleges are a powerful force for brainwashing.

You were taught about it if you were older. But we just called the whole thing, "World War Two". There were so many bad things that happened. We talked about the concentration camps, and what happened there. But we spoke of it as a whole, a part of the terrible things that happened world wide.
My Grandfather fought in that war. I grew up knowing people who were half Jewish. They were in the underground in Germany. So, it's not so long ago, or far away.
And the disease is still with us.

I remember him saying how badly he wanted to at least outlive Hitler and I’m so happy he did. These people genuinely deserve the best in life after having gone through that. Some details he told me will stay with me forever, he wanted to leave the world a better place and promote kindness.
