Alicia Vikander is one of the rare actresses who can make you feel every emotion with just a single look. When watching The Danish Girl you felt sadness and sometimes even joy from her. With Ex Machina you felt fear of what she might do next. Even with Tomb Raider, you felt her adrenaline which led to excitement. In Tulip Fever you questioned her every move and motive but somehow still wanted her to win..and on and on. Firebrand may just put her on that Oscar stage yet again!
No, it's just romanticizing someone else instead to make the story more interesting. It's the same thing with any historical Hollywood fare, they pump up the protagonist by cutting everyone else off at the knees, regardless of whether they deserve it or not. The black female NASA computer staff historical film Hidden Figures is a classic example - woefully inaccurate even to the autobiographical novel the film is based on, let alone the overall historical accounts of NASA and IBM which are both defamed up the wazoo to make the 3 protagonists look more interesting and underdog like.
A lot of historians say he was an awkward, insecure man who lacked presence, which he overcompensated for through image management (see the famous Holbein painting). I think the reason he is such a focal point for British historians is that he is the historical figure that is seen as ushering in the early modern period.
omfg finally a film about a Henry VIII Wife and it's NOT Anne Boleyn! I may actually have to go see this one. I love C. Parr. Also: thank god for more accurate historical costuming
Man, I had to pause it, look, and I STILL didn't believe it. I had to look up the cast..... I may try to find a bookie for the next Oscars, he's probably gonna win with this role
I saw FIREBRAND finally at last in cinemas last night here in LA and my jaw was ON THE FLOOR. I couldn’t believe how incredible these performances were - especially Jude law. I mean this man has given impeccable performances over his 30 year career but this may be the best one yet. The costuming, the music, the tone and general vibe were PERFECT (I am a Tudor historian!) and the love and wisdom poured into this film is astonishing. One of my all time fave films, and I’ve only just seen it. I want to watch over and over! It was ❤❤❤
And you don't think the last third or so blows history out of the water? Most of the movie was reasonably accurate (OK, the usual time compression and likely combination of characters), Agree that most of the vibe was excellent (I'm not a historian but I've read a lot about the Tudors), Minor quibbles that by middle childhood, Edward was already more sickly and serious and should have been cast accordingly and the actress playing Elizabeth seemed too old.
@@lauriemann The film was based on a novel by Elizabeth Freemantle (Queen's Gambit ) & is best descibed as a historical romance rather than historical fact.
Frankly, I’m amazed there haven’t been more films about Katherin Parr. For me, she remains a figure of constant fascination. On one hand, she is the wife who survived and nearly swayed the king into reforming the church of England. And helped shape Elizabeth. On the other hand, she is the stepmother who betrayed the princess who she loved as a daughter for a man who by today’s standards would be regarded as a pedophile (though honestly that’s what he should’ve been considered even for his time).
Catherine was betrayed by her husband Thomas Seymour when he started hitting on the teenaged Elizabeth Tudor. Catherine found them embracing and had Elizabeth banished from Sudeley Castle. 🤔
That has always seemed so confusing - she was, by all accounts, a smart woman, how could she not see that at least something was off about Thomas Seymour?
@@renata8979 Catherine Parr and Thomas Seymour had planned to be married, but Henry VIII wanted to marry her himself and nobody said no to Henry in that regard. I still remember being fascinated by Catherine Parr when I saw Joely Richardson in The Tudors. Can’t wait to see Alicia Vikander in this role, one of my favorite actresses. Both her and Jude Law look great here!
Could we please get a whole franchise of these, please? Period accurate clothing, hair, and makeup; a historically accurate portrayal of Henry VIII; the story told from his wife's point of view; a focused, grounded narrative that isn't just about his marriages, but about the politics of his time. I don't care if there would be time skips between films to make them work and some recasting possibly- this is great.

I have no hopes for this to be more historically accurate from what the trailer gives away. I actually have no hopes whatsoever that this will have any accuracy at all, at that level. Names of people and places.. maybe some dates and a couple of main events.. But the rest will probably be all fabricated and the characters will behave like modern people, like it happens in 98% of movies today.
When I saw the thumbnail for this I thought "For gods sakes, another Boleyn film" IM SO GLAD I CLICKED.. We need more media about Catherine Parr, and Henry's other wives: Anne of Cleves and Catherine of Aragon
Wow! I barely recognized Jude Law! Even though his name was in the title it took me half the trailer to realize he was Henry. Fantastic job blending into the role. And it's great to finally see Catherine Parr's story told. So many movies, series, etc. focus on the first three wives that we barely ever hear anything about the last three. Nice change of pace! I'll see this one for sure.

I´ll still watch it eventually though, because I love historial movies and both Alicia Vikander and Jude Law are awesome :)
Jude Law has been able to play with a lot of meaty roles over the last decade and a half. You should see him in The Young Pope; he gets to play this incredibly complex character and he does a great job showcasing the dynamics of unconditional power. Perfect practice for Henry!
Wow! I can't wait to see this. The cast looks perfectly cast according to real history. The costuming, cinematography, music, and more look flawless! Well done! Finally a movie to look forward to seeing. Thank you!
