As an exclusive urethane bowler for the last decade I can say, one of the best urethane explanation videos on youtube. HUGE thanks!
Wow, thank you!
that wasn’t a great explanation, that is general knowledge, if you didn’t already know that i don’t know what to say!
@@mikehaggerty8061 you should start up your own channel with all the knowledge you have.
@@mikehaggerty8061 🤦♂Not for me, for those new bowlers or bowlers that have no experience with urethane.
@@brunsnick thank you!
I bowled my highest game to date in League with Purple Hammer 246 I started bowling 9 months ago and I am 70 years old now. This video was excellent! Thanks for giving me instructions. I don’t have allot of time left the learn on trial and error I am on a fast track to 300🎉
Great video! This is the important info no one explains, well done!
Another great video Brunsnick! Watching the ball go through the pins is just great advice for bowling in general. It is important to pay attention to how the ball is rolling. Just because it strikes doesn't mean you don't need to make a move or ball change. Excellent information! The best part of urethane for me is that I can "drop the hammer" on the speed without the ball overreacting.
Just started bowling again after 5 years, after 7 weeks best series was 544, bought the purple hammer last week and shot 645 with it
Awesome set!
Nice video on urethane love it as a urethane user thank you.
I had my purple hammer in league play last week and I noticed a lot of wrap-around-10 going on in game 3, out of frustration I got aggressive with my hand - yet kept the ball speed the same and then the rack just exploded. I appreciate the timely confirmation of this! If its not rotating its not doing its job. Thanks for the U tips!
Awesome! Stay aggressive!
Thank you for this informative video and for the content you post, act went to a competition sport tournament this evening and stayed in my Purple hammer for a 192 and 246, just remembered what was said and stuck with it, got a little lost on the last pair so wound up with a 188 but I’m happy to have learned something new!
Grind out the tougher games and keep it in play. The string of strikes will come.
Great video, with some great tips, Im still in my journey man phase of thane using it and following it, Troy Lint is absolutely destroying the pba 50 tour with the purple these guys throw it so good as well, tough to beat.
I already get bullied enough for using urethane as a 2 hander. You're saying you're giving me tips to continue to get bullied for trying these tips out? XD
If you outpace them by 20 pins a game, who is actually bullying who? 😉
@@brunsnick wouldn't that be called, standing up to my bullies? Reminds me of Happy Gilmore quotes of "somebody's closer~" and "someone learned how to putt"
@@TrandafirRuby I just mean let ‘em talk while you let your scores do the real talking.
I am using my Hammer purple pearl urethane bowling ball regardless of who's shouting or bullying. I do ignore them all and focus on my game 😉🤣😈🎳
2 handed bowling is not Real Bowling ; it is an ABOMINATION ! ! !
Great Video !!!
Great tips ,How about a video on the Attitude control versus the Purple Hammer.
I started bowling again after 25 years, everyone from the pro shop to the people at a league I joined said that urethane is not the way to go. When I was a regular bowler I lived on the right side of the lane, minimal hook and it was comfortable. Purchased a Black Widow 2.0 and that thing hooks like a mother! can't control the darn thing. After finding your video's I plan on getting the purple hammer. Thank you for an awesome lesson on urethane balls.
Low to Mid Rev player here (300-340 RPM), the Purple Hammer Urethane is my go to ball when I bowl on the gross unkept condition my local Round1 has with tons of carry down. It rolls early and powers through the wet dry and by the time it gets to the backend it doesn't overreact to the dry (Most of the time). Shot 279 with it at this center as well. I don't know where the notion that Urethane isn't for low rev players stems from, for me the Purple has raised my average. However I will say that on a normal THS Urethane isn't my go to as it will overreact to the dry and skate wide in the oily middle. I have better looks on a clean THS with a high end pearl or solid like the Quantum Evo series.
The notion unfortunately comes from seeing PBA pros with high rev rates using urethane, and having Randy reinforce that notion.
Thankfully, folks are starting to realize that urethane is not only for high rev bowlers, nor is it it for sport shots.
Great video
Love the purples urethane reactive. Anything purple with a hammer or the side. You know it’s good!!! This is a great video for my son. He’s won a few tournaments with his purp. Watch kco October points tournament. On prodigy bowlers tour!! Division 3. He rocks out with the purple.
In my league on broken down lane oil on the old wood my purple pearl hammer urethane with creating the difference control layout is alot of ball and i am always aggressive with my hand and wrist not up the back and not around it and i always stand 20 to 23 and can have it come back from the 5 board with the layout and how much torque you could call it with my hand and wrist so i got hand but that is why i had to go to sarge Easter grip to take way the pain from it . But with urethane balls i LOVE my overseas magenta urethane hammer when was ebi owned and not a fan of the new one at all . But the magenta urethane hammer is my goat for me at 360 grit and my geico plastic ball ( same as the ones on tv in early 2000's ) at 180 grit that is my 1&2 punch and i can be more aggressive with the magenta urethane hammer because how weak it is it is just a overseas version of the black hammer from 2017 so if i had to pick urethane up i will go with the magenta urethane hammer anytime and day on any conditions.
Facts, Im a 1 hander and my go to equipment for the last 4 years has been urethane on house, sport whatever, at some point I should try a Purple Hammer lol
I just got the purple a few weeks ago. Its a great ball to shoot at 10 pins. I have to admit, I enjoy throwing my Columbia Explosion much more for my strike ball.
Another great video! I had to laugh at myself because one of the first things you said was that urethane balls hook more, so I’m doing something wrong with mine, as my 35+ year old Brunswick “Twister” ball is what I use for my spare shots that I’m throwing a fairly straight ball. I’ve never been able to get much hook from that ball and that’s why I purchased three new balls this season trying to increase my ability to hook the ball.
Gentle reminder, a lot of your audience are not fully understanding of bowling slang, so please describe what you mean by “aggressive”? Thanks for the great instructional videos.
Love the nu hammer
I have to agree with you 😢. I'm old and my hand is getting weak. I think I'm going to need a wrest brace. I'm dropping the ball instead of rolling it off my fingers. Great video.👍🎳
Have your grip checked, might be some span and pitch adjustments so you can hold onto it better. 👍🏻
Back in the early 90s, when I was really into bowling, I was really cranking a burgundy Hammer. I had tons of power amd stamina, usually bowling at least 5 games when I bowled. I was interested in the new Brunswick Piranha reactive resin ball, and the old timer who worked at the lanes said that if I threw the Piranha the same way I throw the Hammer, I would have a hard time keeping it out of the left gutter. I'd have to change my whole throwing motion in order make it work, and my mechanics were so consistent and smooth, why would I screw around with them?
Nice work as usual. I have a team mate who only has a purple hammer with a short pin layout. I know he’s never adjusted/ maintained the cover. What cover is a basically safe bet for league play in your opinion? Thanks
I personally think asymmetrical pearls are perfect for league, at least for me. I lean that way, but all depends how someone throws and where they want to play the lane.
As a right hander and one hander, I love using urethane because my rev rate is high and my Purple Hammer and my Black Widow Pink and I hope Hammer makes another Black Widow Urethane soon because Iove that Pink one so much that I use it as my go to in my bowling center. I use reactive too if the pattern is long. BTW be aggressive be aggressive that was in the Rock's Jamanji movies right?
Nooooope
@brunsnick how would you know when to use different urethanes? I currently use the Attitude Control and love it. What would the purple hammer bring that the attitude wouldn’t? Thanks!
A little different motion due to much lower flare. It’s really a different ball.
I'll never change balls just cause someone wants to chirp, that shit makes me throw urethane more honestly. Solid bowlers will figure out the shot no matter what. Meanwhile you just gotta let everyone try to chirp you and just laugh it off. Lefty? Urethane? Two hand? Are you an up ten dumper? Everyone's always gonna have something to say no matter what you do, just bowl.
Just bring it in more sanded each week. 😎
Oh. I am using the Purple hammer 🔨. My favorite ball next to my Furry. Funny it's 30 years old 😂
Hey Nick! Thanks for the awesome video! Purple hammer is the best ball I’ve ever thrown and my go to ball. I currently have it drilled 45x4x50. Do you think I should pick up another purple hammer and drill it a bit differently?
Probably not unless you plan to keep it at a different surface. With how little it flares, the layout differences will be come less crucial.
....one of the things that I find helpful when using urethane, is to dust off the. techniques used during its 1980's-90's heyday. You mentioned being aggressive in your vid, for example. All that stuff we've been taught about not hitting up on the ball, not "giving it fingers", not "giving it the business", Chris Barnes' famous "be nice to it" advice--all that holds true for resin, not for urethane. Part of why folks struggle with urethane, is the same reason they originally struggled with resin years ago: they are two totally different animals, requiring two totally different techniques and mindsets. But the moment we realize that, is the moment we can truly enjoy urethane and stop aggravating ourselves with resin over/under ball reaction.
@@brunsnick thank you! Hopefully I’ll get to meet you one day
@@joehoenig7596 love the explanation!
Hey Nick I have a quick question, I’m still using my Blue Hammer Urethane from the mid 90’s. I was trying to find out what the core is inside it. But I haven’t been able to figure it out. Would you happen to know?
Not entirely sure.
Question I am getting my first urethane ball tomorrow and I’m glad I’m watching this video. Is it true or false when it comes to the very first shot out of the box I hear some people say you don’t wipe the oil off yet because it’s the very first or you still wipe the oil off at the very first shot Because I wanna keep that big unnecessary hook.
The ball will tone down regardless if you wipe it or not. There will still be some residual oil in the cover because the towel or shammy can’t get it all.
@@brunsnick so it does not matter really after the first shot my original plan is to not wipe it after the first but then on out, I’ll probably use a shammy or something like that to get the oil off from the second shot onward
what's the best layout for urethane?
All of these videos about bowling techniques and I NEVER hear how fast the bowler is throwing it. I need a frame of reference as I throw about 13-14 mph and so I cannot be as far right as most of these bowlers because the ball hooks to early. I understand I need to move left a couple boards at a time to find that oil pattern and shape but it’d be nice to understand the speed of these guys.
I have plenty of videos showing my speed and other SPECTO data. Typically 18.5mph launch speed in this scenario.
Your purple looked a little shiny before you threw your first shot, what grit did you raise the surface to???
Never touched it. Just has oil on it and some oil shine
I catch nothing but grief from the tournament bowlers during my league. They make sure I get an ear full and tell me how I don't need it on a house shot. Just tonight I threw a 235 with it and used it to create a line for my Hammer raw for the third game. I laughed when the tournament bowlers, who still shot 700 told me they were going to mess up my line for me. as a 190 bowler, I still shot a 230 for the last game. My team has several of us over 65 that can't afford to be buying new balls every season. I am hoping they don't ban urethane, and let the prima donnas go pro.
As a high speed low rev player i have to disagree on tip 4
Ive thrown urethane and it goes straight for me even with alot of surface as in 220 grit
You’re not far enough outside. Get on the gutter. 😎
@@brunsnick I was
Literally on the one board
@@dejabowler873 post a video and tag me
@brunsnick I don't have any videos and I can't make one because I got rid of my urethane
Now make a video on how to be successful with resin balls in league on a pair that one or two players are using urethane in the middle of the lane crossing boards to the right. BTW, some of the players using urethane don't wipe their balls at all during the entire league set.
Move right lol
Can I ask what is the drilling layout?
ua-cam.com/video/Ax8H7MisJms/v-deo.html check it out.
Is it possible usbc will follow the same ban on urethane as PBA?
I never like to work in absolutes, but extremely unlikely.
Can anyone tell me how to stop my purple hammer from slipping out of my hands?
Wipe it every shot with a good shammy.
i have a pink black widow hamme euro do i realy need a purple hammer?
hammer
Yes. Much different core.
Fired Up?
Should you clean an urethane ball after every use?
Yes. Wipe off oil every single shot.
Thank you, how about cleaning it with a cleaning solution between league nights?@@brunsnick
@@brandocruz8012 you can sure, but unless there’s visible dirt or belt marks, not super necessary for urethane.
I have four urethane balls and they do hook early.
As they should.
Time for me to start pissing people off in league 😈.
LOL, they're already pissed off! You're not gonna have to push them that far!🤣
I use the old school red hammer for urethane 😂
I'm gonna buy the blue hammer because it's "not urethane" lol
Someone's shoe (likely the tip of right foot) has marked the approach pretty bad.
on a singles league, yeah go ahead and use it. on a five man team-do you really want to screw the shot up for your teammates? urethane is rarely needed on a house shot, if you cant use reactive you dont have a knowledgable ball driller. way to many pro-shops just want to punch 2-3 holes in a ball and say that’ll be 180.00
How’s using urethane going to “screw the shot up” for everyone else?
@@brunsnick are you serious? if you don’t know that answer you shouldn’t be making bowling videos!
