Great review as always! Waiting for 16 inch model, looks like it will be the best windows laptop for this year, as from what I saw in sponsored reviews last week, it's a pity that Lenovo didn't send you laptop for review.
That was fast! Your preview was only last week. Great review as always. I purchased the Gen 7 version last year after watching your review and it has been an excellent laptop. However, I wish Lenovo would make the Yoga 9 series in an AMD variant. The upcoming Ryzen 7040 series (i.e., "Phoenix") processors are looking to be absolute monsters in terms of graphics and CPU performance, all while maintaining excellent battery life. However, I presume Lenovo will only launch these processors in their Slim 7 X Pro series. That is a shame as I think AMD also belongs in the Yoga 9 series. I will be looking forward to your review of the 2023 Slim 7 X Pro when the time comes.
Looks like their strategy to start first sales with intel, also intel versions have more memory configurations(more than 16), otherwise nobody will buy intel😂
I'll stick with the gen 7 model. For those living in Florida, if you can wait until August, there's a tax holiday and best Buy usually has the Lenovo's on sale during that time. I bought my 2022 9i (with the 4k OLED) last August for $400 less than the suggested retail price.
Nice PC. The camera looked good although the movement of your image looked a little Jerky or flitters. I do not know if this was due to the recording of this video? See my comments on your live stream that you recently did for more detail. Like your improved format of presenting these reviews. I do like the older presentation of the benchmarks where the PC units were listed above and one could easily see the comparisons more clearly. This current layout is harder to review. Just my opinion. Still a great review.
Love all your reviews. I am in the market for more technology upgrading my M1 air and this is one of my final contenders. I also like the XPS 13” OLED but I just can’t get past that function row and lack of trackpad. Maybe I am just old school. I do not care for the dedicated row…would prefer if you could program these. I do some Excel while working and traveling and I guess I will probably pick this one up tonight…and maybe either ignore or get used to this dedicated keys section on the right. Keep up the detailed reviews!
@@ethelromero292 After trying out and basically returning a few, I ended up super happy with the Samsung 13”. Has stellar battery life, quick and clean and responsive, like the touch screen though not needed…is nice to have, and super lightweight.
Like the dedicated row but hate that it’s on the right side. It’s easy to mistype since the delete and enter keys get used so much. Would prefer the bar on left side of keyboard.
As always, useful review. Thanks. A question. How do you think this stacks up against the Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro 360? And if you have an opinion, among the competitors at that price point, these two and others, which do you think is the best?
The Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 8 (2023) is certainly a very Premium, beautiful machine that's not cheap but eventually will go on sale from Lenovo. Love the case that comes with it and that oatmeal color is stunning! The rounded edges is great and the metal case is always a plus. It has a nice USB port availability as well. I like that you can at least upgrade the SSD if nothing else. The 2.8K 422 nits OLED display is a Big plus. The 1080p webcam with the background effects is very clear and so is the internal mic. Minimal screen wobble is another plus. I like the dedicated row for the specific keys. Just be aware that this model has integrated Iris Xe graphics as opposed to dedicated graphics so performance will take a hit. Upgraded quad internal speakers is a Huge advance in audio quality on the Windows side but it still doesn't compare to the audio quality of the MacBook Pro. In conclusion, not a bad laptop and as Andrew stated it, if you have last year's model you don't need to upgrade to this one unless you want the newest and greatest. Awesome job Andrew!! 👍😁
GREAT Write up Andrew! I'm Still on the fence about the 14 inch unit 7I Yoga 2.2K display 1355U and the Yoga 9i 4K 1360P uni. It's for my wife, who doesn't do much ( coming from a Chromebook to the Windows) Looked at Spectres, and dells, but back to the Lenovos for a better display. She's gonna use it for basic tasks, and watching movies while traveling. Bought the 4K unit open box ( looks brand new with all paperwork and 11 month warranty left for me. for 1020.00 at Bestbuy. The 7i as I can get it same way ( open box at BB for 501.00) so the conundrum continues. Any help would be most appreciated.
Think you can criticize more the keyboard? Shallow key travel just doesn't feel right for quite a bit of people and while it does have low actuation force needed for keypresses it still became the #1 reason why I returned mine and ended up with the Zenbook 14X Space Edition. Good review regardless
Hi Andrew, I finally got this laptop and I have a few questions that I would apricate if you would answer them. 1. is the touchpad very clicky I mean gentle tapping will make a click sound which is very noticeable. 2. when scrolling with the touchpad the scrolling isn't smooth as it scrolls by the scrolling mouse wheel, does your unit perform the same? Thank you.
Ok Andrew, it a great video of a great machine. Would you consider making one for Lenovo Yoga 7i ( Gen 8 ) 2023 Model. I want to buy it but I am waiting for you. Much love from Africa!
Honestly all those reviews driving me mad. REAL time on battery with mixed office use is far from what all reviewers saying. I own this machine. In reality , if you browse internet, write/read emails, type in word - with brand new machine, nothing installed (except what comes in package) and all drivers updated to latest versions incl. BIOS you have 4 hours on energy saving mode untill battery drain to zero,, 3 hours in intelligent cooling mode (mixed performance) and 1 hour and 50 minutes in performance mode. Regarding battery life, this notebook is really nightmare, It dont last even 2 hours bus trip in performance mode. Lenovo Yoga notebooks are just big scam. Yes all other functionalities and design including performance is superb, but for mobility is this notebook completely useless (and thats main use for ultrabooks). Its usable only with power adapter. 11 hours with display set to 90 hz as you state in review in PC mark 10 modern office, is pure bullshit. I can do max 4 hours real office work, with maximum energy saving mode and display turn to 60 hz, dimmed to 150 nits. I would really like to see anybody using this machine for work with office tools and internet browsing for 11 hours. I dont get any close to 11 hours even with OLED display brightness set to zero. Btw camera is terrible too, picture is blurry, not sharp, picture looks flat without details, use in darker environment cause tons of noise, there is big lag. If I compare with cam in HP convertibles its uncomparable. Cam in Yoga is almost trash. If you turn audio volume on max, whole chasis is resonating, so its usable up to about 70% volume - but then its not loud enough. Feel scammed from Lenovo and reviewers.

Andrew, is the speaker system identical on the Gen 8 and the Gen 7? Cosmetically they look the same but I wanted to double-check. I can save a ton of money by opting for the Gen 7.
Yeah, I gotta say I did like the sound coming from the Mac considerably more the Yoga (and I'm a 2-time Yoga owner). I totally agree with Marc on this Gen 8 being solid upgrade for older laptops but not worth a move from a Gen 7.
Hello, about a week ago I bought the Lenovo Yoga 9i gen 8 4K. And since I opened it, I have used it for basic purposes such as surfing the Internet and watching movies. But the problem I encountered is the battery, the full battery life on my computer is four hours with absolutely basic use. I checked online and according to tests that people have done, the battery should last 9.5-11 hours of work, which is very far from what happens on my computer. I contacted Lenovo's technical support and after a thorough examination they said that the battery is perfectly fine and there is no problem but it still feels very strange to me. If I wanted a computer most of the time I need to be connected to electricity, I would have already bought a stationary computer and not a laptop... I would appreciate your help, thanks.
this battery situation seems to be common for most laptops, I've been looking at the new surface pros and they are advertised as 11 hours but everyone who gets them seems to be getting 4 or 5.
Hi Andrew, love your reviews, they really help to make proper buying decisions. It would help me a lot if you could review the new LG gram style laptops, preferably the 14 inch version. Other laptops in that spec category are the xps 13 plus, lenovo yoga 9i and the zenbook 14 oled. With these specs they are all around 1.700-2.000€, so i am thinking about LG, but apparently from what I heard, the performance is supposed to be worse (although the good specs) and the build-quality is supposed to be bad (wobbly screen etc.) --> The point is: I find it very hard to decide :D A good neutral review would help me so much.
