Maybe it's different in Canada, but the S14 Ultra Core 7 goes for $2000 and the Ultra Core 5 is on sale for $1599 Whereas I could find the 7i Aura for around $1299 on sale before today, and I think it's default price is around $1499
lenovo for me - maybe the build quality is a bit lower (mine aura sometimes squeeks when I grab it in one hand) but the keyboard of Asus is unbeareable

People are always talking about how Intel's losing ground and how Apple's about to drop something big, but it's hard to really get into it when you're still rocking a five-year-old laptop.
I am rocking an M1 MB Pro 13 which is four years old and it still gets as good battery life as these Intel chips. For my office workload I get about 14-16 hours SOT. Performance is fast and slick due to on-chip RAM and storage. Performance is likely to be good enough for me until it dies.
I just bought the Strix Point version of this laptop and boy what a deal I got. $100 off for Holiday Sale, Oled, 16Cores, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD for $1299. Selected Windows 11 Pro. Lenovo really got it right with the Yoga Pro and that Oled is one of the nicest i've ever seen on a laptop. IMHO, the Strix Point is the better deal.
Awesome review. I love the testing of standby battery drain and that you mention the frustrating trackpad. I wish more reviewers would actually test so in-depth. And for the device it's actually a shame that lenovo doesn't offer this with a matte oled. That would also reduce the weight by around 100g to a more likeable 1.45kg
All that brightness gets lost on that mirror-like glossy screen. Not sure why manufactures put screens on laptops that don't work well in bright lightning conditions. Offices are extremely bright, coffee shops are bright, schools are bright, libraries are bright, and anywhere outside of our houses.
This is an excellent option for those that do not want to use Snapdragon X Elite CPU laptops and want full X86 software compatibility. The other options are the Asus Zenbook S 14 Lunar Lake and Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition. The X1 Carbon Gen 13 costs too much right now (enterprise bulk buying starting negotiation price) around $2000 USD. It will drop in 4 to 6 months to around $1,500.
Cheers from Germany from a long time watcher of this channel! Really appreciate your honest and detailed review here. Can‘t agree more with the keyboard. I have been recommending Thinkpads to my brother for many years (he types a lot on his device as a doctor running his own practice) and he‘s always been happy except the battery life. Lunar Lake definitely changes that and as soon as his Alder Lake X1 Carbon reaches it‘s warranty end (I think he got 4 years) I‘ll recommened the current one to him. He also once had the service come to his house to fix something, no issues. In general it‘s nice to see Windows laptops FINALLY getting good battery lifes and standby times compare to Apple. I have an M1 Max 14“ MBP from my company and I don’t really like the keyboard. And don’t get me started on those sharp edges. Unfortunately for us it‘s either Apple or Dell and I am still waiting for a new XPS 14 version (the XPS 13 got only 2 USB-C..).
I think the main issue is that Thinkpads in general have become so unbelievably expensive. It used to be here in Canada we were able to buy a last-gen Thinkpad X1 Carbon for under $2000. Now you'd be lucky to find it under $3000 for a decent spec.
@ Yes I agree, it‘s the same in Germany or Switzerland where my brother lives. He was lucky though as Lenovo was running a huge sale and he got his Alder Lake X1 Carbon for around 1200 CHF. Guess they were clearing stock for Raptor Lake back then. As for my work device price isn‘t the issue but it’s just company policy. Dell or Apple (personally I‘d love an Asus tbh).
Computer is amazing, screen amazing, but you are right on the software, multiple BSOD's, i have issues with the mouse, sometimes leaving the computer idle, the mouse stops working. These are very minor issues and I have had the laptop for over 2 months. It does seem to be getting better and I have not had a BSOD in weeks. So hopefully all of these issues are being resolved. Battery life is weird, sometimes its amazing, sometimes i only get 6 hrs.
I'm also having pretty bad battery life often, I've been using the laptop for 2 weeks now, overnight it loses between 15-20% battery life. How is yours doing?
@@alex75hgft the biggest thing that sucks up the battery life is the refresh rate, if you change it to 60 hz, I have been seeing an extra 3-4 hrs of battery life added. If you change it on battery, you will definitely see an improvement. Since the screen is so bright, I also run the screen at 40% brightness and I usually get 8 hrs. If you dont put these settings on I get a typical 6 hrs, no more no less. Hope this helps you out!!!
@mikemischler2886 thanks for letting me know. I'm using 120 Hz because why not have a fluid experience with brand new expensive laptop but I can't believe that will cut the battery life so much. I'm using half way brightness already. What I don't really get it is the drain of the battery when the lead is closed is sleeping.
@@alex75hgft i was always using 120hz as well, but i only use it when I am plugged in, i couldnt believe how much battery i was saving by changing it. I also turn on the energy savings as well in battery. I believe if you use these settings you will easily get 9-12 hrs of battery life.
Screen glare and problems with trackpad seems always the two issues that return when watching Windows laptop reviews. It would nice see a video that focuses on those two facets.

I must say, seriously there's like no new Lunar lake laptops aside from the initial ones at release I would really love a 14 inch variant from Lenovo, Why are manufacturers do reluctant to use lunar lake
Bro you’re so right about the Zenbook’s ability to attract fingerprints. It’s like no other laptop that I’ve ever seen! I got the S14 with an 8845HS and the 120hz OLED for quite cheap here in Aus (about 850usd) and it’s definitely the biggest issue I’ve had. It’s not a massive deal, but it’s definitely an annoyance! The Lenovo looks pristine in comparison
there’s a deal on the Lenovo website for a yoga pro 7 Gen 8(zen 4) with a dedicated Rtx 3050 for the same price wondering if that’s worth considering? Also I’d assume for 300 more Canadian dollars the strix point version is not worth it?

I take the Macbook 15" to be a very different device altogether. Personally I'm not a big fan of MacOS so while the Macbook is an amazing devices altogether, it doesn't meet my personally and professional needs. Pricing is also a whole lot higher for storage capacity. But if you are ok with EITHER MacOS OR Windows, I'd go with the Macbook Air M3 with the 8/10 layout at 512GB SSD. - Mike

0:26 Oof, the text disappeared too fast. 🙂 Anyway, nice presentation - thanks! Remember to check the Windows release version on this and the core parking setting. No mistakes twice, eh. 😉
What's your graphics driver version? Mine says it's from 20 Aug and the version is 32.0.101.5731. I don't see any updates in Vantage, and the gpu driver isn't on their website for some reason.
Glad to find another long-term user video for this same laptop which I have been using for a month! (I have the 258V) The current gripe I am having is I am not able to get my GPD G1 to work with it. May I know if you have any luck with any of the eGPUs you might have? Thanks!
From what I have experienced, BSOD/GSODs are almost always caused by bad 3rd party drivers (3rd party as in the ones from manufactures or ISV supplying the components like Bluetooth/wifi modules). I have been running windows ranging from Dev channel insiders to Beta to Release Preview and stable builds for many years, and the only time I had BSOD/GSOD were because of bad driver installations. Flickering is no present on my end on stable 24H2 builds so I would say that it is on the driver/components side. Windows has problems but I have found core components to be solid in stability. I would suggest you guys try and review a machine from the manufacturer's business line. I have been running a Dell Precision 5750 as my personal machine and the software updates from the manufacturer's are usually much higher quality compared to consumer versions.
Yeah. Windows on my desktop was pretty good, but in a laptop in a single year I got 3x the BSODs that I had in a decade of desktop usage. I mention this desktop vs laptop thing because laptops have a lot of custom components that want drivers in comparison to the standardized desktop.
Having used some Snapdragon X based laptops for some months now, and recently bought and returned a ZenBook S 16 with Ryzen AI, It really feels like all the Intel or AMD laptops are laggy, slow, hot and noisy. In that time I've only once had an app not install and run so if your workflow is Office/Teams and similar, Visual studio, coding etc. and you're not a you tube content creator, you may find it a much nicer option.
@@keev9882The S 16 isn't/wasn't available with Intel. You are right but the root cause of my error was listening to all the reviewers who said it was so good! Now the lunar lake one would probably have been better for heat (therefore noise) and battery life of course. But hugely sacrifices multicore performance to do it. I find it sad that Intel lied every year, for years, about having solved the battery and efficiency problems until suddenly they had real competition and then they could magically do something. How exciting is 2025 going to be with the next generations of Intel, AMD and Qualcomm?

Ah Windows 11 bugs. I was a little surprised on linux that even my i7-1360P laptop worked so well on standby. Just 1 or 2 % down after closing the lid the next day over last few months. Hopefully over next year as the more efficient AMD and Intel chips roll out I can find a reason to upgrade for more "in use" battery life as well.
Superb video, thanks. Here's my experience so far, first the negatives and then will move to the positives 😉 I'm experiencing a weird random freezing of the browser (Edge, Chrome, didn't notice with Firefox yet) when I tried to seek an online video (UA-cam, etc.,) back and forth several times. The browser freezes and doesn't respond to clicks or KB. When I move the mouse focus and return to the browser it returns to normal and I can resume the video. I'm hoping to do a fresh load Windows to see if it improves anything. Sometimes the unit doesn't resume from the suspend state (power button keeps blinking, screen black, no response to power button, KB, Trackpad anything). The only option is to force the power off and turn it back ON. Battery life wise this laptop cannot be compared with Macbook Air M3. I'd say 10 hours with moderate use, with a fair amount of brightness, which is fine with me. The keyboard and TrackPad are superb, and the navigation is excellent. The side power button is not an issue at all. It doesn't turn the power ON the unit when the screen is closed. This covers the accidental power ON when in a backpack. The screen is gorgeous, bezel, colours, brightness, and low reflection (compared to my previous laps, however, in dark mode it becomes significant). Doesn't cause any discomfort to the eyes (I'm sensitive to those and experienced burning eyes with some laptops). (Colours are better than Mac Air M3). Sound equality is excellent, nice level of bass. I'd like it if the keyboard backlight could be lowered more (currently only two levels), and came with a warm white tone rather than a cool white light (as in Macbook Air). I have seen some comments on UA-cam about wobble when the unit is placed on a flat surface. That was the very first thing I did after unboxing 😀, and I didn't experience anything as such, the unit is pretty stable on a flat surface. When you open seven (7) UA-cam video tabs the fan kicks in at a very low rev, but you'll never notice it. Tried VMWare VM too, and was able to run some of my old VMs with a few adjustments. This was the main reason to go for an Intel processor rather than a Snapdragon. Love the port selection+distribution too. Very satisfied so far (except for the random screen freezes)
I've never seen a matte touchscreen display. They might exist, but there should be some technical reason why the vast majority of touchscreens are glossy.
In my region the Yoga 32GB/258V and MBA 13'' 16/256GB cost 1363€ and 1141€ respectively, which would you recommend? I'm stuck between the two for student work.
Yoga 100%. I'm currently on a M4 Pro MBP, and I'm heavily considering switching back to a Windows laptop. Ofc this depends on your use case, but in my case the extra performance of the Macbook is not worth the pain that is macOS and ARM compatibility.
I brought one. It was noisy and had some weird vibrations (on a flat surface, it stops if I rotate the laptop). It started to be noisy and vibrating even at light load (when the fan kicks in, even at the lowest speed). One fan is bad or it is supposed to be like this ? or maybe I am very sensitive to noise and vibrations, I don't know. But the noise/vibration stopped if I turned the laptop like 40 degrees. That makes me favor the faulty fan explanation. I ended up opening and unplugging the left fan that was the source of the problem. Now it is quiet, even under load. Didn't notice any performance drop in everyday usage.

Reflective screens are so much of an issue on most glossy Windows laptops It's freaking annoying. Some Samsung laptops have anti-reflective coating like Macbooks, but not even Surface laptops do. I have the same experience of having to boost brightness to the max and it wasting lots of battery.
I have the 32GB version of this computer. And I think it is great, still haven’t heard the fans, which is very important to me. Great screen. However I have two issues: Normally when I open the lid it turns on immediately. However sometimes is will reboot, but a few times nothing happens. And I have to press the power button for several seconds to make it reboot. When I leave the computer with the lid open, it will go into sleep mode. When I return it turns on automatically (presence detection) and I am in, but then it turns off again for a second and then on again and log me in. It is somewhat annoying.
I have the same problem with presence detection, it shows the desktop, then immediately locks the screen again. Mine also after several hours with lid closed, when opened, does a full start up procedure like as if it was switched off/hibernation instead of sleeping, and still drains 20% of the battery overnight
Hardly wobbles doesn't mean it won't wobble. I got to use the laptop, and I have to say that it's impressive how you can lightly tap the touchscreen without any wobble, while medium presses will give it a very slight wobble. Other touchscreen laptops have it way worse.
I also have this laptop and talked to Lenovo support with regards to windows npu support for webcams (studio effects) but they just pretended it’s a 3d party software problem…
Since the AURA has no slot for a second SSD (like the Zenbook also) - and the glossy Screen make sit non interesting for me right now. Otherwise this is a great machine!
If the OLED is obtainable, then the only real problem for me is Thunderbolt. It's absolutely abysmal as a charging solution. That small port breaks and wears so damn fast. A barrel charger or literally ANYTHING else is significantly preferable for me. Thunderbolts get loose and break after about a year. I run my laptops for a solid 8 years and a type c/Thunderbolt simply won't last.
I have this laptop for 3 days and I have to say the biggest disappointment is buggy software. I already had to disable LenovoVision service since its executable hangs stressing one CPU to the maximum all the time no matter what I choose in Vantage app. The second issue is the LNVAadptiveBrightness process. Same story - it utilizes CPU contantly despite adaptive brightness being turned (or ON, it doesn't matter). Second issue happens only when you wake up PC from sleep after some time. All updates installed. Even the optional ones from Windows Update. With the rest what you've said I agree completely - screen, speakers, cooling, touchpad palm rejection, etc. Under my real world usage the battery is more like 8 hours max (youtube, coding IDEs, maxed out screen, ...). Definitelly not 15+ hours - that must be a joke. Over night the drain is approx 3% when notebook is asleep. Half broken crapy SW was the reason I replaced my Zenbook S13 OLED. I am still not decided whether I keep this laptop or whether I finally say good bye to this Windows nightmare. I have really mixed feelings since I know Lenovo and other manufactures doesn't care about their SW quality since you already gave them the money.
When you place the Lenovo Aura on a flat table, does it wobble? There are some comments in UA-cam reviews mentioning this issue. Can you check this? How is the fan noise when you open 10 UA-cam tabs? Does the Lenovo Aura give a premium quality feel? Is its build as sturdy as a MacBook?"
@@emineaslan1339 It doen't woble. I don't think it even flexes much if you grab it by the corner and lift it. But, I mean, it is an aluminium body so I think it is physically possible to bend it. It does feel kind of premium mainly due to aluminimum body and great finish. Compared to MBA I think they are on par with regards to look and feel. No sharp edges. However MBA still has way better display (especially less glossy) and waaay better trackpad (like waay better). I also liked the keyboard better on MBA. I am still striggling with this one after moving from Zenbook. I have no experience to compare with MB pro unfortunatelly. Few months ago I also tried HP Spectre X360 with Intel CPU. Similar build quality with less glossy screen and better (haptic) touchpad. However it was crashing to BSOD even after clean vanilla install so I returned it back. Regarding fan noise I would say it is really quite machine. On battery I don't recall noticing the fan on on powersupply when CPU is under stress, you can hear the fan. But nothing serious. I haven't tried any gaming or anything like that. Just normal software dev work.
@emineaslan1339 I think it will be on par with Spectre. The only thing I didn't like on Spectre besides the SW were the corners under the screen with the connectors in it (USB-C and jack, I think). That is a really inconvenient place to put a connector when you are having the notebook on your lap. Other than that, I don't recall anything. I remember the speakers were also very good on Spectre. Regarding Dell, I have no experience with those. I checked what they offer before I purchased this Yoga, and nothing really struck me.
I also appreciate the upgrade pricing to 32gb 258v and 1tb being so inexpensive, but let's not give Lenovo too much credit. At least Apple prices the MBA at a starting price hundreds of dollars less. Yes the upgrades are expensive, but that machine is at least as good as this one (i would argue better, but I'm willing to call it a wash), and the cost of entry is so much lower.
I bought one a while ago. Battery is fanatic. I can use it for a day or two. The main problem i have is the software. Windows 11 is such a terrible thing. Constant notifications and ads. Apps take their time to open. As soon as drivers are pushed into stable kernel. Im going to install a linux distro on it and remove this abomination of Windows.

WTF is strixpoint
The Ryzen AI series is good but my preference is for the battery life of Lunar Lake
In this particular lineup, it doesn't matter which one you pick. Both are winners.
Thats the kind of content that made me subscribe all those years ago. Great review!
Thanks for the compliment
Awesome review. I love the testing of standby battery drain and that you mention the frustrating trackpad. I wish more reviewers would actually test so in-depth.
And for the device it's actually a shame that lenovo doesn't offer this with a matte oled. That would also reduce the weight by around 100g to a more likeable 1.45kg
Reasonable upgraded pricing option online is a W thank you Lenovo
Expanded warranty pricing isn't bad either
All that brightness gets lost on that mirror-like glossy screen. Not sure why manufactures put screens on laptops that don't work well in bright lightning conditions. Offices are extremely bright, coffee shops are bright, schools are bright, libraries are bright, and anywhere outside of our houses.
I prefer a glossy display. Matte tends to look grainy to me.
If the display is bright enough, it works well even in bright light.
Can you append this review to include the 14" version since size seems to be one of your main criticisms?
This is an excellent option for those that do not want to use Snapdragon X Elite CPU laptops and want full X86 software compatibility. The other options are the Asus Zenbook S 14 Lunar Lake and Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition. The X1 Carbon Gen 13 costs too much right now (enterprise bulk buying starting negotiation price) around $2000 USD. It will drop in 4 to 6 months to around $1,500.
Can Lenovo pen or any pen work with the touch screen? I need client to sign documents using laptop.
What about the Zenbook s14 ? Please
@@alex75hgft change the sleep setting to hybrinate, that will fix that issue as well
@@alex75hgft i was always using 120hz as well, but i only use it when I am plugged in, i couldnt believe how much battery i was saving by changing it. I also turn on the energy savings as well in battery. I believe if you use these settings you will easily get 9-12 hrs of battery life.
Screen glare and problems with trackpad seems always the two issues that return when watching Windows laptop reviews. It would nice see a video that focuses on those two facets.
uhm, "windows laptops need nanotexture option"? I believe it's called "matt display" and have been widely available for few decades now...
No actually. The nano texture cuts reflections with very minimal impacts on contrast, color reproduction and clarity. Matte displays are the opposite
Great PiP with the B-roll
Did they ever get around to fixing the Microsoft studio effects?
I'm planning to buy a laptop for some light gopro video editing, is this or the ASUS Zenbook S 14 gonna make it? Which one of those would you guys recommend? Thanks

Same here. 14 inches is the best size.
I think the USA version comes in 14 inches.

I'm a max 4 finger typer. ;)
I must say, seriously there's like no new Lunar lake laptops aside from the initial ones at release
I would really love a 14 inch variant from Lenovo,
Why are manufacturers do reluctant to use lunar lake
Stock of the chips perhaps?
Price??
Hello Matthew. Please answer. Between the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14, Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition, Asus ZenBook S 14 LunarLake, and Dell XPS 13 9350 LunarLake, which one is the quietest and the most premium? Silence and premium quality are very important to me. Thank you.

The only thing i want to know, almost everyone want to know ....Is it better than macbook air m3 ?
I take the Macbook 15" to be a very different device altogether. Personally I'm not a big fan of MacOS so while the Macbook is an amazing devices altogether, it doesn't meet my personally and professional needs. Pricing is also a whole lot higher for storage capacity. But if you are ok with EITHER MacOS OR Windows, I'd go with the Macbook Air M3 with the 8/10 layout at 512GB SSD. - Mike

Do you even prefer Snapdragon over Intel lunar lake laptops? Such as slim 7x snapdragon?
Well you bought AMD version instead of the more efficient and cooler Lunar Lake. Thats more of your fault.
@@davidneale530that multicore drops will not affect your performance if you use a thin n light laptop for its intended use case. If you want bigger performance then you can still find intel core ultra series 1 laptops on bestbuy

Here's my experience so far, first the negatives and then will move to the positives 😉
I'm experiencing a weird random freezing of the browser (Edge, Chrome, didn't notice with Firefox yet) when I tried to seek an online video (UA-cam, etc.,) back and forth several times.
Is it possible, to replace the 2242 with a 2280 SSD?
i hope you guys could do a giveaway with the old laptops reviewed 5 years and older
hey my laptop x270 lenovo , right click or left click is not working what could be the problem?
why glossy if it is not oled?
OLED doesn't need to be glossy. The glossy coating is mostly for fake visual pop and facilitating touch control
@HardwareCanucks oleds are usually touch, and i have only seen glossy oleds, this is why i think macbooks do not go for it.
Depends. The 256GB is super limiting IMO

When you place the notebook on a flat table, does it wobble? Some reviews on UA-cam mention this issue. Can you check this?
@ Mine doesn’t
Go into the Sleep / Wake settings and Lid Closed options. Also, Windows Update sometimes plays havoc with sleep / wake cycles.
I have the same problem with presence detection, it shows the desktop, then immediately locks the screen again. Mine also after several hours with lid closed, when opened, does a full start up procedure like as if it was switched off/hibernation instead of sleeping, and still drains 20% of the battery overnight
I have been looking for a new laptop to replace my 2018 Huawei matebook, and this might be a solid option.

Hardly wobbles doesn't mean it won't wobble. I got to use the laptop, and I have to say that it's impressive how you can lightly tap the touchscreen without any wobble, while medium presses will give it a very slight wobble. Other touchscreen laptops have it way worse.

Since the AURA has no slot for a second SSD (like the Zenbook also) - and the glossy Screen make sit non interesting for me right now. Otherwise this is a great machine!
You know Google's quick share exists too right?
Im pissed when them not allowing 2280 nvme .. i can see the bottom has many free space

At least here in Canada the Macbook Air M3 15" is quite a bit more expensive...at least right now.
Apple also starts the MBA at 256gb ssd and it has 2 usb-c ports and nothing else. Whack.

Imagine having to supress Apple by using such dogshit benchmark that was compiled with INTEL MKL and TBB, +hand written AVX2/512 loops and dots and loads unload instructions etc.
Meanwhile its emulated on arm64 pc's and doesnt even directly translate AVX but rather virtualized SSE2 with the SSE2NEON intrin.
