You know Guy is a full-time Lorry mechanic because he loves it. Racing and his media appearances are just things he does on the side. Fact: After a TT, Guy was nowhere to be found by the media. He was eventually tracked down - someone he knew on the Isle of Mann had allowed him to stay in their spare room, Guy was found painting the outside of their house because he wanted to repay them. He was briefly interviewed covered in yellow paint.
He was a lorry mech........try reading the latest book.........given it up, bought a tractor and subs out to local farmers doing stuff......that way he spends more time with wife and daughter............and he owns a village pub
@@222caribou What a legend. Jeremy Clarkson ought to hire him for the next season of Clarkson's farm. And thanks for the updated information, I was clearly out of date!
@@dave_h_8742 I imagine Clarkson would hold Guy with sufficient respect that he wouldn't clown around before him. But then it wouldn't be entertaining TV, so bad idea I guess.

To be honest I'm not really that interested in motorbikes or engineering. However, Guy's passion and enthusiasm for his trade has made me watch so many of his programmes. His sincerity and love for what he does just reels me in every time.
His enthusiasm and passion for whatever he's filmed doing is just infectious and that's where the draw with him lies in my opinion. Regardless of your interest in a subject, his infectious curiosity and enthusiasm is what draws you in.
Silly thought perhaps, but I've had the feeling for years that Guy Martin is a kind of Fred Dibnah V2. Smiles, passion, enthusiasm and genuineness that you can't help but wanting to be around. :)
The shows he does are amazing, there’s an honesty about him and just how into the challenges he gets are a breath of fresh air! He’s a damn good bike racer to!
You get a glimpse of why we in the UK love guy in this, he's just one of the lads, you might like to check out him racing his van in the Nevada open road challenge, he builds what is possibly the world's fastest builders van to compete in the NORC time trial
He's also passionate about his mountain biking. He took part in an epic north American cycle race from Canada down to the south, about 2,500 miles, unsupported. Epic stuff. If you read his books there's a great account of him entering the race under a psuedonym, but someone bumped into him around half way, they heard a rumour he was entered and followed up an unknown name and met him. I saw him a few times in the Isle of Man TT, once he was cycling uphill from Douglas to the pits, just an ordinary bloke following his dream. Fred Dibnah would've been proud to meet up for a chinwag.
fred was local to me , yep although guy likes more modern stuff there would be a hell of a lot of mutual respect for each other reccon they'd have chatted for hours over a beer .. both blokes had an i am who i am attitude
I agree with you 100%.. He is obviously the most genuine bloke around. As you say, any thing he does is a blast to watch because of the sheer enthusiasm and the way he is so self deprecating. Thanks for the reaction.
The bike is nuts - custom exhaust system, turbocharged to overcome the altitude, custom EFI (IIRC that was the cause of a lot of the woes) - he even modified a room in his house so he could lower the air pressure to get himself used to the thinning air - proper job!
It was a restriction in fuel flow caused by the quick release joining valve in the fuel pipe..... not big enough for the massive fuel flow required....
Guy Martin is a proper mans man. A real go getter with nerves of steel and an all round good bloke... He also looks like he's just walked right out of a 1960's film reel... :)
Guy is a down to Earth guy. The winners of Pike's Peak were also given a commemorative watch which he also gave to his mechanic Cammy. I've got a photo of me and Cammy with that watch. His Guinness World Record for the wall of death is also on the wall of one of my local pubs
he builds great home inventions, rides the wildest courses and come home to work in a lorry mechanic's garage. discovery for the intrinsic joy of discovery. such a humble, simple, down to earth guy and we wouldnt change him for the world.
Another Hero! Brian Cox, Helen Czerski, Johnnie Ball, Sir Patrick Moore and especially Dr. Magnus Pyke. An enthusiasm and a passion that persuades 🤓🥰❤️
I wrote to Sir Patrick Moore asking him to sign my copy of his Autobio... He did, he also personally typed a reply letter (on his old Woodstock) thanking me for the small gift I sent him as a pre-emptive thank you. (Must get it framed one day).
Matey when he asked that girl out, maybe he wanted to date her maybe not. Aside that he had met someone from a different Country and was being friendly, as people from Wales, Scotland, Ireland and England do, well most of us do anyway. We are all just very friendly people.
Awsome I was hoping you would react to some guy Martin vids. His vid where he brakes the speed record for a push bike is a little nuts well worth a watch
For another take on a similar subject, _Climb Dance_ is well worth watching. Ari Vatanen's 1988 win at Pikes Peak in a Peugot 405 Class B rally car. In those days, it was a dirt road towards the top. Amazing cinematography and it gives me goosebumps every time.
Guy is what makes us brits great and eccentric! Design build and invent something in your garden shed. Enter it in a competition, win! Go back to the shed 💪
I leave near him, and friends have cycled with home. Was in the local pub one time and he came in with this gorgeous girlfriend - he snuck into the next room trying to be unnoticed while his gf bought the drinks next to us at the bar. His pub is run by his sister sally - the Marrowbone and Cleaver in Kirmington Lincolnshire. Great guy is our Guy.
Guy is so dedicated whatever he is doing it gets ALL of his effort. He was offered the chance to work as part of a Formula 1 pit crew during an actual race. He did that well they offered him a job on the crew!! He also holds a number of Guinness Book of Records speed records. Including driving the worlds fastest tractor at 135.1mph. A Down to earth lovely Man as well.
That whole series was enormous fun and deeply frustrating in equal measure, almost all of the programs he did well but could have done better with more prep or time, each program I really wanted to see how he would have done the next year
people get knighted for winning a couple of races in the olympics ..this man needs to be regonised and knighted ultimate british humble legend ..watch his spitfire documentary
To pardon a pun……..A Genuine Guy, doing extraordinary things, for the love of it, not the acclaim, I have a small collection of signed Guy Martin memorabilia, from his racing and his tv shows, they take pride of place over everything else I’ve collected.👍🇮🇲💖
This was great. There's another sporting "character" known as Eddie The Eagle, who might be of interest - they actually made a movie about him. I will let his story be a surprise if you've not heard of him.

Guy in Japan is amazing! The praise he receives off the Japanese master swords maker is awesome!
Yes I watched James May visit the same bladesmith and he wasn't impressed with Mr May 😁
@@popshedpilot6635 That was a great episode, and the bit with the old lathe operator was great too!
The boat that Guy built is another fantastic series. Well worth a watch.
I loved the series be did peddling across China.
Yes! That and How Britain Worked. Lost count of how many times I've seen both. Always good with a cup of tea or five
Guy Martin is a breed apart, another term would be 'he's a bleeding nutcase!' He has done numerous videos, all of them well worth watching.

Should watch some of Guy Martins World Record attempts they just show how much passion and hard work he puts into the things he does.
The fact he gave his trophie to his mechanic and friend shows what kind of guy, guy is
3 words can tell you all about guy martin = WORKING CLASS HERO.
One word sums him up for me 'humble', a characteristic not often seen in celebrities.
This whole episode of Speed is well worth a watch if you can Alan
Every episode of speed is worth watching
Guy Martin is a legend at what he does. Balls of steel. Well done 👍🏼👌🏻💪💪💪
Have a watch of his wall of death world speed record attempt. It was shown live on TV when it happened
Great man always gives the trophy away to a team mate
Guy is just a big kid with a golden heart! Loves everything he does and does everything he loves
I don't watch much TV but as a Brit, Ive never heard of guy Martin, gonna have to look into more of this bloke, seems like an interesting person!

Great video, but I really, really want to know how his beer went with the lady at the beginning.
When the lady handed over the trophy and guy said 'Cheers Duck', I wonder what she thought??!! 😂😂
Guy Martin our Guy in Japan is a great watch too.
Guy is so totally down to earth, and he will have a go at anything, we in England are very very proud of him
I don't know how he doesn't sink into the ground with his massive balls of steel!
It's impossible not to like Guy Martin.
The win reaction says everything about the man. I hope my kids will be that successful and humble.
Guy Martin broke 5 vertebra during a crash on the Isle of Man TT... he is such a humble person.

I love reacting to Guy Martin and History videos.
It's a privilege to see the joy on Guy's face when he wins and succeeds and money just doesn't come into it.
Pikes peak on a bike he built himself you gotta love Guy
Love the engineering side, building a van to do the Nurburgring, cycling record attempt and helping rebuild a BoB Spitfire were great.
Pikes used to be a different beast when the top half was unpaved.
That's spooky! I was just looking at a Guy Martin video.
As a motorcyclist myself I wish I had a tenth of guys talent.
Love Guy, he does the most dangerous things with no fear
He’s a very nice man
In these times its hard to say im proud to be English but guy makes me feel so proud, a true British icon in my opinion
