The crazy part about the cats that run this, it's all passion. There's so many privateers that run this race. The winnings are £18,000 and that doesn't cover the cost it takes to get to the TT. It's one reason sponsorships from people that can spare to do it or getting picked up by a team is so important for many. Love the fact y'all were able to react to this and get it up on yt.
More Guy Martin please! Absolute legend. He had a worse crash than that & broke his back. It was caught on camera! All his programmes are highly entertaining. Watch when he learns to be an F1 driver
This is the film that kickstarted Guys TV presenting career. Some of the top riders are known by their town of origin and whatever fast projectile starts with the same letter, Connor Cummins is "The Ramsey Rocket", John McGuiness is "The Morecambe Missile", and Ian Hutchinson is "The Bingley Bullet". Although a lot of people now call Ian "The Flying Hutchman". Incidentally, he raced the next two TTs with that cage round his leg.
The Hutchy story, that crash and his fight to get back from it is something else. One of THE great sporting stories, mind over matter, attitude etc etc. there’s a doc all about it somewhere
This is one of my favourite sports films, I saw it on it's release in the cinema and loved it. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Road Racing means so much to us here in Ireland and all over the world also, but here in Ireland it holds a special place in our hearts. I think you pretty much understand now what a hero Guy Martin is to the Brits. He has a massive cult status there and he is even granted honourary 'Paddy' status over here. lol The real star of this show, for me, was Mrs Dobbs. what a fantastic attitude and example to her children.
You talk about a NASCAR driver who had a cigarette lighter in his car. Barry Sheene, a motorcycle road racer in the '70's and '80's, had a hole drilled in his helmet so he could have a cigarette as soon as he finished a race.
Surprisingly alot of the riders do play the video game to learn the course, the TT game is made with the input of the riders on bike physics to make bike handling as realistic as possible and the circuit is laser scanned so every little bump, dip, jump, Kerb, pothole etc are as they are on the real course. Some riders have admitted they use it the learn where the dips, bumps and jumps are and to push over the limit in game to find a limit months before they get there, then that limit is adjusted every race meet leading up to the TT so when they arrive on the island they have their riding limits and practice week is to make them last minor tweaks to bike setup and boundary limits.
Have you guys seen the documentary called “ROAD” ? It’s about the Dunlop road racing dynasty. Joey “the king”, his brother Robert, (also a very talented rider), and Robert’s two sons, William & Michael, all of them road racers/TT regulars. It’s a brilliant thing. Narrated by Liam Neeson. Thanks, from Belfast NI. ☘️✌️
The thing that still blows my mind with the TT, is when someone wins an F1 or MotoGP race, you won't hear about the winner going back to their plumbing or mechanics job the following week! Do 180+mph inches away from stone walls on the Friday and then back to fixing leaky tap washers on Monday.... wild!
The cynic in me says that as long as they keep it 'for the plumbers' and not the playboys, we'll be allowed to keep it. Once a sponsor loses their 60 million dollar baby, we could lose it to some committee of soccer moms.
another delight of the Isle of Man TT is the best motorcycle display team in the world - the world (in)famous Purple Helmets - well worth a look for a good laugh!
The police took my bike and car plus lorry licenses off me. And I told them if I was Guy Martin you'd would never of caught me.This gentleman is a blooming fearless speed freak.. I love speed but I'm in his shadow. My respect to Guy. You've the Man.. great video and channel. Cheer's 🇬🇧
Went to the TTin 1967 for the Diamond Jubilee , saw my hero , Mike Hailwood , a 14 times TT winner , who i consider the greatest rider ever . Did the course at a sedate 30mph on a bus . Sadly Mike was killed along with his daughter in 1980 by a truck making an illegal turn .the son survived . He was taking them to buy fish and chips . 🇬🇧
Hailwood has to be no.1 for me, to win 12, have 11 years off and return to win 2 more, he still had what it took to win. 11 years of what ifs, thats a lot of races he never started, while still having what it took to win inside him. The greatest sporting comeback ever in my opinion.
Have you seen Guy's record attempts (successes) TV series worlds fastest Transit and Pikes Peak are both fun events in the states and all of them are fun and informative (and sometimes dangerous and gross (the HPV 24h tandem record))
Guy Martin reminds me of Fred Dibnah . Hope you get to go one day, but at least you can now watch live on Monday , which will please many around the world who can't get there.
If you watch carefully, Guy's front suspension was clearly garbage in that last race. The fact that he pushed it like he did was insane. Being a mechanic himself, he had to know it wasn't going to hold. At least he wasn't badly injured. Also, if you get a chance, you should look up John Hinds. He was one of the race doctors (the green bikes with the M where the number should be) for the Isle of Man TT for many years until tragically wiping out and dying one year. He basically pioneered the mobile units who followed behind racers at intervals so quick aid could be rendered. He and his crew were responsible for saving many lives. There are some documentaries around about him. They give an interesting view of the race from the medical side of things.
I am 75 and my wife is 73 and we ride our motorbike nearly 4 days a week and have done just in the last 3 years, 90,000ks and had a few close calls but apart from being hit by a car not much drama. Riding motorcycles is different but it seems that once the leg is thrown over the saddle and that engines purrs you are in the zone and its a whole new experience each and every time and we really don't know if we will come back from the ride but wont stop. Tin top drivers have no idea of the high we get from leaning into a corner, foot peg scrapping the tarmac, elbows and knees just off the ground and then straightening up for the next bend, heaven.
You said about fitness etc . . . Back in the late 1990s until 2003 when he died in a crash during TT practice there was a rider called David Jefferies. He was no lightweight at around 220 lbs but was very fast and the real star of that era. The belief was that his physic helped him muscle the 1000cc bikes around the TT course which is very bumpy and requires more physical strength than circuit racing.
I was in the island in Diamond Jubilee TT year in1967 and had the American BMW motorcycle owners club staying at the same hotel . Great bunch of lads and lasses , complete with their bikes 🇬🇧
I went to the TT in 09 when Rossi and agostini were there they did a parade lap it was an awesome experience a bike going past you 3 foot away at 180mph and the hot air of the engine hitting you in the face another road racing movie is ROAD about the Dunlop family every time I watch it I cry buckets
This was 2010 I went to the cinema to watch this in 3D. I've got this on DVD it also came with the 2010 electric motorbike documentary film TH ZERO the 1st year it was held on the island it's a great movie to watch also I highly recommend it
Guys sideburns were what gave wolverine his healing powers😂 and cause he didn't die, that's what you're meant to do, and guy doesn't do rules so well, the chat in his hospital bed was the perfect window into the mindset of all the riders that take part, Connor showed exactly the same attitude, and its a breath of fresh air no talk of who's fault it was they just accept it as a norm
At last! See all these TT reactions to various clips and short programs - I am always telling people to watch this if they want to understand the TT. We have property on the 11th milestone, just after the Cronk-y-Voddy straight. Beautiful place. The documentary really may Guy Martin a household name - and his subsequent TV career. Local lad Connor Cummings - ever loved. Soft spoken Ian "Hutchy" Hutchinson - and a very special record with the horrific end of year! New average lap was broken this year - 136.358mph by Peter Hickman - the 130 club just grows. They all came back and raced again - Hutchy had to have modification made - but he won more. Nice one lads.
Timo Salonen, 1985 World Rally champion in the Group B Peugeot 205 T16....a bit plump about the middle and as the start marshall counted down on the stage starts..."10 seconds.." and Salonen would take a last pull on his cigarette, toss it out of the window and was good to go! 😂
As you asked the question with the re-fuelling chaps, it's a 6 lap race (the senior where Guy and Conor crashed) so yeah, the re-fuel adds a LOAD of weight.
The North West 200 and the TT are very different beasts, although both held on public roads. The North West for exampleare proper races rather than time trials for a start. Both are great.
Strange that I saw Guy today in his Volvo Vöx, the 788hp one built by a Koenigsegg engineer, ( I live near to where Guy lives) and then you drop this reaction on UA-cam.
This documentary is actually 13 years old now 😮 Guy last did the TT in 2017. And the NW200 is a big separate event in its own right but it’s just 2 weeks before the TT which is the biggest.
@Daniel i always assumed the small purse was more to discourage people doing something stupid and dangerous because they needed the money. A small purse removed personal greed as a motivation and encourages only riders who want to do the race. Not saying I'm right, just how I thought it may work
I was there this year. the crowds were amazing seeing guy at the front, really thought he was going to do it. you can watch the races live, on TT+. all signed up for this year as not able to go anymore, lets hope they do not consentrate on just the leaders this year, they all need a mention.
We use almost all of the TT course everyday to get around the Island. There is one very small stretch in Douglas that you cannot go on. The whole course is two way so you cannot take the racing lines unless the course is closed for racing.
Guys they do hold sessions where the common people can drive about during the week after the official stuff has happened. Or you could go there any other time of the year and enjoy it
I googled it . A paved endurance race through United States also in guineas book of records for most competitors in one race , sorry for my ignorance guys . Love the show
1:11. the course is public roads so you can ride or drive it any time of year but it is 2 way traffic. However during the TT fortnight there is a day called Mad Sunday where the course is open for anyone to drive or ride along in its one way race format. Outside of the towns or at least on the mountain section there is no speed limit and this is where non racers get killed riding beyond their limits. Very few spectators have been killed by crasing race bikes.
Just I was losing Interest in your channel staying subscribed paid off with this beauty. I spent every summer on the island during TT season as I had family there I met Joey Dunlop and John McGuiness. Joey's statue is so eery and magical on top of the mountain . Above the clouds looking out over his kingdom.
There used to be able to go round the TT course on the weekend before the racing starts. It used to be called Mad Sunday. And a majority of normal riders were killed! Speeding in the pits!
I was in tears waiting to see if Guy was okay when watching that race live, and even though I know he survived, every time I rewatch this film, my heart is in my throat and I still get very emotional after they announce Guy is missing, even upto the point where he's joking about stuff in the hospital.
After this documentary "Cases from the races" is an interesting watch. It is a presentation by a doctor who takes care of the riders and was also a racer. It let's you know what goes on from medical standpoint and is a real fun and also a serious talk. It won't be a interesting thing to make a reaction video of but it is worth a watch in my book.
Great reaction guys, you understand it now,it's not for money,it is about competition about each rider thinking how fast can they go with the knowledge of this could be a serious injury or death or they zen out at that speed & just go as fast as they can,I respect anyone who race the TT
They weren’t saying Guy didn’t haven’t a licence, just that there was some sort of system issue where it needed to be re-scanned as he wasn’t the only one - so it was an issue he probably wasn’t aware of
Great reaction guys. Always loved that film, shame you couldn't play the end credits excellent track from Kasabian. That film is copyrighted to heck so well done!
The first speed limit set in the US was only 6 years earlier, in 1901 in Connecticut, and that set the limit as 12 mph… Given that in 1908 you had the Model T that could only manage about 35 mph anyway - almost double the 1907 20 mph limit but still not hugely fast, but I’m sure it felt incredibly fast to contemporary drivers
Spence & Dan the guy singing the song & riding the old motor bike going through the Pub Doors in the Film on location Isle of Man was No Limit 1935 was George Formby with his Ukulele a British Film Star
Guy is a solid candidate for greatest living Englishman for not only his racing, but his record breaking attempts (even his show about rebuilding a canal boat and kitting it out with the best of british inventions / crafts etc is awesome ) ... though tbf he's tried very hard to cancel the "living" part of the proposed title lol ... have known a few people like Guy over the years, simple, focused, passionate about what they enjoy ... unaffected by anything else ... as you say they are a different breed and incredible people if you get the chance to know them
Playing the TT game could be good for your channel if you haven’t already Spencer, didn’t know about the third one but the first is definitely better than the second
The IoM Mountain course, which the TT has raced on since 1911, is 60.2km (37.4 mi) long with 219 turns and a 400m (1312 ft) elevation change between the bottom and top of the course.
I WANT TO MAKE THIS CLEAR TO ME milky quail is as much of a legend to me as any of the others Cares for the riders so much not wanting them to have the same race fate that he did Him just walking round removing stone is done from such a level of respect to the other riders There must have been times he could have easily resented them and gone another way What a hero
Entirely natural to fear the worst when one hears that a rider is missing. It's a great and thrilling race, but those words instil all sorts of fearsome emotions in, well, everyone.
You guys are in the point, yes the TT its more than a race, its a religion, and me as a fan i try to go every single year since 2015…. Now the speeds are even more crazy, its the best show on earth…. Long Life to the TT
Lived on the island for 35+ years and the races often get cancelled and have done for a long time if its bad conditions. Rain, fog or even damp patches from previous rain will cancel a race. They will always try postpone the race to the next available free slot/day, but if the conditions are still bad then it just keeps getting pushed backed and the race events will be shortened to fit them in on what remaining days they have left. It happened before a couple of years a go where a lot of the races that were planned for the final Saturday due to bad weather during the week were just cancelled completely because of bad weather on Saturday too. Pretty huge bummer when it happens for everyone involved obviously, especially those that have traveled a long way to see it. I think on average though, I'd say its very rare that bad conditions cancel so many of the races and generally each year the weather is pretty good. This year (2023) for example was literally perfect every day. it didn't rain for 2 weeks and there was only some fog on the mountain on 1 or 2 days I believe. Its years like this that records are broken because the roads have had 2 weeks of rubber being laid and not getting washed away with the rain. Same thing happened in 2018 I believe, when the 135mph avg barrier was broken for the first time.
If you are a motorcyclist, and you watch the TT, you are there and living it....stomach clenched, teeth gritted....trying to see around the next bend....exhausting....
These media people have got to remember how much adrenaline is pumping through his veins after a race, and the disappointment of not winning the suddenly someone shoves a mic in your face and asks you some stupid questions.
When you look on confused at the 20mph speed limit. You have to realise everything was defined by the speed of a horse. These machines were mind blowing. At first you could only drive them if a man walked ahead with a flag. The average person had zero perception or experience of speed and thought if you went too fast your face would be torn off. That wasnt the lowest speed limit. When Mr Benz made the first car, it triggered the 1865 “Red Flag Act” Speed Limit of 4 mph. (2mph in the cities!!!)
You need to look up the humble LEGEND that was Joey Dunlop.. (any older footage of a rider with solid yellow helmet with a black stripe up the middle is Joey) He and his family are road racing royaly.. and tragically more of them have died riding than are left riding. :( If you think you have to be super fit and train to be successful.. there are the exceptions You won't be disappointed.. the man is up there with McRea and Senna relative to his sport. The NW 200 is once per year and is racing wheel to wheel and they race to win.. It is used as a testing session by some but most are out to win both the NW and the IoM.. Many of the IoM entrants are from Irish road racing series. You can drive all road race courses.. they are just public roads, like rally. More to the point, the IoM has unrestricted speed limits outside of the town / villages, so you can do a pretty hot lap too.. Just beware of cutting corners and dangerous driving is an offence. It's not just Ego, it's comming straight off the hottest of laps with all that adrenaline, emotion and the rest.. And a bit of guy being guy. Rain is raced in.. Rain heavy enough to cause flowing water or too much standing water isn't
Big massive balls👍👍👍
More Guy Martin please! Absolute legend. He had a worse crash than that & broke his back. It was caught on camera! All his programmes are highly entertaining. Watch when he learns to be an F1 driver
Guy Martin is definitely the modern day Red Dibnah, you should watch some of his engineering videos, he love's it...
This is the film that kickstarted Guys TV presenting career. This is one the best TT documentarys made imo.. and Guy Martin is an absolute legend, proper down to earth hero!

If anyone was deserving of a TT win, it was Guy, such a shame he never got one.

"up there with the Fred Dibnah's of this world" SPOT ON MATE 🤣
Lemons? You mean Le Mans? Made me chuckle guys. Jokes aside, great vid. Glad you enjoy the TT.

yes
@@paulmaxey6377 they did their last uk display at the Farmyard Party at Helmsley last year 😢

NorthWest 200 is different, it’s a race rather than a time trial and the track is faster. It’s almost as old as the Isle of Man TT.
There is another amazing documentary called "road" about the Dunlop family, well worth a watch

What the hell is Eurovision doing on your bucket list?!!!!

Kinda update, Michael Dunlop is just 1 win away from all time record of his uncle who have 26. It may happen these days. Michael is on a mission
As you asked the question with the re-fuelling chaps, it's a 6 lap race (the senior where Guy and Conor crashed) so yeah, the re-fuel adds a LOAD of weight.
Good to hear that Americans find Dick Trickle's name funny.😄
Great reaction lads! These guys are the men you wouldn't mind going to war along side, absolutely fearless!
The North West 200 and the TT are very different beasts, although both held on public roads. The North West for exampleare proper races rather than time trials for a start. Both are great.
At 4 mins I'm in stitches, because Guy is at his yard he's not making any effort to slow down or talk 'Southern' hahahaha
just watched this again, everything u guys say in this vid is spot on. cheers (i raced there 2011)
Mowing the lawn...just in case. What a guy.
i live 3 miles from guy martin in lincolnshire uk he comes into my hometown we all love guy hes our legend
the stoic attitude of Guy sliding at "150mph"...... Yes SIR
Yes your right, you can drive on the roads but for the race days all roads are closed off hope this answers your question.

Barry Sheene was a larger shandy drinking southern poofter
Guy Martin.
😂👍
Gut is a legend , he lives locally to me in Lincolnshire and is without a doubt a national treasure. 😎
Great reaction guys, you understand it now,it's not for money,it is about competition about each rider thinking how fast can they go with the knowledge of this could be a serious injury or death or they zen out at that speed & just go as fast as they can,I respect anyone who race the TT
If you get chance to watch a film called ‘road’ with Liam neeson. Very good film about the TT
The irony of getting a speeding penalty at the TT
"apart from that" classic British understatement
A cup of tea always helps 😂
They weren’t saying Guy didn’t haven’t a licence, just that there was some sort of system issue where it needed to be re-scanned as he wasn’t the only one - so it was an issue he probably wasn’t aware of
These guys who do this TT are my heroes. Defo wired differently from everyone else.
Guy is actually autism spectrum, and an absolute star!
Yeah he has Asperger’s
Great reaction guys. Always loved that film, shame you couldn't play the end credits excellent track from Kasabian. That film is copyrighted to heck so well done!
The 24 hours of Lemons? 😂
The first speed limit set in the US was only 6 years earlier, in 1901 in Connecticut, and that set the limit as 12 mph…
Given that in 1908 you had the Model T that could only manage about 35 mph anyway - almost double the 1907 20 mph limit but still not hugely fast, but I’m sure it felt incredibly fast to contemporary drivers
Model T wasn't produced until 1926 so the speed limit of 1901 is rather irrelevant
@@richardwest6358 yes, that was an afterthought hence the new paragraph (it was in production from 1908 though) I’ll edit to clarify
Connor came second the year after...... Supermen!!! Hollywood can only dream of a film like this . Loved it Boys!!!
1.00.31 Just casually standing in the garden watching the race with a mug of tea 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Of all the riders ever TT Riders are a class of their own.
I WANT TO MAKE THIS CLEAR
TO ME
milky quail is as much of a legend to me as any of the others
Cares for the riders so much not wanting them to have the same race fate that he did
Him just walking round removing stone is done from such a level of respect to the other riders
There must have been times he could have easily resented them and gone another way
What a hero
Entirely natural to fear the worst when one hears that a rider is missing. It's a great and thrilling race, but those words instil all sorts of fearsome emotions in, well, everyone.
By far the best time of year in my home country. No work, Sunshine, Bike is ready. Hope all have a great one and make it to the other side! 😎
He missed out on going on Jim'll Fix It..That was one luckiest escape he ever had.😆
Best reaction I’ve seen, perceptive comments , peace out,❤
You guys are in the point, yes the TT its more than a race, its a religion, and me as a fan i try to go every single year since 2015…. Now the speeds are even more crazy, its the best show on earth…. Long Life to the TT
Guy Martin is the definition of 'Some Boi'. Still hold out hope he'll win one.
You should give the flying Doctor a look, John Hinds , an absolute legend and a great loss.
Or suffocated going fast..
24 hours of lemons !! 🤣🤣🤣 it's pronounced lerr mons !! lol
I live about 7 miles from Alton park where guy was practising 😊
He is such a nice guy i met Himmel in the Box at the tt... he deserves a "sir"..
The guy at 1:08, Talking about the race with the straw hat on his head, Is actually a Announcer for MotoAmaerica an AMA pro races on TV
TT fortnight starts on Monday. Don't miss it !
there is an onboard lap in a Subaru WRX as the fastest car lap. Give it a go. TT this year was amazing
Well done guys.
You need to look up the humble LEGEND that was Joey Dunlop.. (any older footage of a rider with solid yellow helmet with a black stripe up the middle is Joey)
He and his family are road racing royaly.. and tragically more of them have died riding than are left riding. :(
If you think you have to be super fit and train to be successful.. there are the exceptions
You won't be disappointed.. the man is up there with McRea and Senna relative to his sport.
