13:29 Day three, finally we have a chair and a paint box. Guess who's on the chair!
16:00 The passport forgery business is up and running
17:13 Is that where the 500W speakers get installed to turn this into a party boat?

The wine rack might be for charts?
@@MM-ih4rj could be, but this is France we're talking about, so wine rack :P
watch Sailing Uma about their deck painting, they do a great job and explain it.
Just some safety tips from my experiance, #1 Clean your fuel tanks if you can, Some day you will be in heavy seas and scared , thats when crap will come loose in the tanks and plug your filters and shut you down at the worst moment. # 2 thouroughly inspect and lubricate your steering and rudders. #3 If you can , find someone who is very knowledgeable about that engine and those hydraulic sail drives to check them and teach you how to maintain them because you will be the one fixing them . #4 Change out below water line thru hulls if they havent been changed in a long time, seal them properly. These are just key safety items needed to get you through a storm.
And take out and plug up the through hull speed paddle wheel if it has one. Major common source of failure and scary when they do. See Lady K and Zingaro episodes.
i was in some of the cat forums and a cherokee 35 owner said "once we pulled out the old hydraulic drive system and put in a Honda 50hp she sailed quite well" The number one problem with sail drives is corrosion and if the previous owner didn't keep up on replacing anodes, the drive may need more work than its worth.
@@gregh7457 I heard that too on old hyd drive issues, thats the best fix , could cut half the weight too.
There is so much wood inside. A real treasure for the modern world.
Young, healthy, handsome/beautiful, optimistic, hard working, intuitive, bright minded, patient, humble and an awesome yacht in the development! You guys Rock!
Just having a fridge, new sails and the upgraded electronics is worth 11K. Great purchase
Cheers mate!
@@WildlingSailing Don't be dissuaded by the trolls: It is a big project, but watch youtube channels for their mistakes. There are plenty of refit videos out there, GO SLOW. Don't expect perfection and NEVER apologize for your mistakes or choices. It will be a lot of fun
There looks to be some good quality tools too. Even paint adds up if it's useable.
That's a lot of boat for 11K! Congratulations!
I agree!
Thanks!
@SuperDave Miorgan I agree, takes a little elbow greas and then its truly yours!
Looks like a 40k boat.she was clearly loved also well built. Lots of well thought out features which ye will be finding out for years. If the engine and hydraulic gearboxes are good she'll take ye everywhere.
Liked, Shared and Commented. Take that UA-cam algorithm.
Yesss, thats what we like to see!
Prep work is the most important. 95% prep, 5% paint is my formula. Get the "best" epoxy paint you can afford.
🤔 as for the deck non-skid & not knowning. If the adhesion is still good, clean it really good. Then clean it again. Yes, again! Apply a thin coat of etching primer followed by several thin coats of capatable (with the etching primer) mono-epoxy paint. This should do the color change very well.
I understand what it is to have a dream & FINALLY begin working toward its reality!!! JOB WELL DONE.
Hey Mark you really should install an expansion tank for your water system. i noticed that your pump turns off and on with the faucets. If you install the expansion tank it will act as a buffer allowing the system to hold pressure for longer which means your pump wont run as often.
Cool, will do for sure, it's definitely needed
I was impressed by how nice that eyesore cabinet turned out after you modified it! I agree with you guys that redoing one area at a time is the best way to revamp a place that you live in. I really envy your youth......
What are we going to do with you, Ed? Thanks so much for the lovely words and the coffee to go with it. Hopefully we can sit in the finished cat one day and share a brew
You are the right couple for the job ahead. Young and lots of energy. The kind of people who will roll up their sleeves and get to work without intimidation. I have no doubt, with some bumps along the way, this boat will soon be ready to live aboard within your comfort zone.
You are doing something you enjoy and you are not afraid to do the work to accomplish your desires. You will succeed and return to the sea in a ship you purchased and conquered.
This will develop to most interesting project to follow.
cheers mate, lets hope so!
Kiwi Grip all the way for grip on deck.
Ahh ok, a couple of people talking about this too
Lifting the load off...quite literally. So satisfying watching you remove those heavy panels. So excited for this project.
Wow, what a great deal! With all the tools you are on a different level! That galley rebuild is so cool! To see how you can transform that Dinosaur in to something useful, and appreciate the salvaged wood and fittings.....Going to the trash to go shopping.... this episode defines you two as Sailors who earned their Salt!
Most excellent price, wow, well done. Once you get used to everything being BIG, you will always love it. I bet you now have a SHOWER🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 the electrics are most dependable, wow. Ease up a few days, don’t drive too hard, please. ENJOY, ENJOY.
If you guys are happy, you just achieved a major goal in life... Keep doing what you like...
On our old Cherokee we ended up removing the motor and all hydraulics. We cut a hole in the cockpit sole and bridgedeck, built a pod and hung a Honda 50 outboard on it. We shedded hundreds of pounds, removed 2 large 3 bladed props that were a lot of drag under sail and made the Honda steerable with the wheel. Really transformed the sailing performance.
He could just keep it until he has enough money to put those folding props, the kind that folds when under wind power open up under direct power. It looks squidish (my daughters words. she's weird like her dad)
Nice, we're definitely keeping an open mind in a conversion
Which Cherokee did you own (Hull #)? I moderate the Iroquois Facebook Group and we are trying to document ownership / location of all Sailcraft models
You lucky pair! I can feel your excitement. Lots of work but what the hell - just think what lies ahead !
Love to you both
Thanks mate! yes, lots of work but we're getting on top of it
"A dream come true" - Sweet!
The joy the boat seems to be giving you is worth 11k in itself.
You guys are truly f***ing awesome!
Live your life, don't just exist!
Fire extinguishers. Be safe be wise! You two rock!
what a lovely couple ! when its all said and done , i think youll find youve made the perfect vessel .
this cat has a retro level 1000 look ... I can't quite put my finger on it ... kind of like a 60's comic book spaceship ... it is VERY COOL
"We just wanted to challenge ourselves" ..... well check that off the ole wish list as you for sure have some challenges ahead. You guys are both super resourceful, I have no doubt any and all bumps along the way will be tackled! Can't wait to follow along and watch the progress. Likes are no problemo consider it done!
Looking much better inside already.
Cheers, Michael!
The deck can be painted once prepped, Then when the first coat gets tacky, Chuck sharp sand all over it, Weight 1 hr, Go for a cuppa, Then brush off the excess sand lightly, Then repaint over the sand, That's what we did for painting fishing trawler boats, And it lasts for years, No expensive paint needed.
This channel just moved up a notch. stoked to see where this goes!!! GLHF
you two got an awesome deal on that cat, stop making excuses for the nay sayers!!keep making the great video's im looking forward to the next one:)
Leaving the Comfort Zone? It's like jumping into cold water, it's not easy. But if you never do it you will never experience those amazing sunsets, those quiet nights bobbing at a secluded anchorage, motoring down a lush glass like canal in the morning. Then there is the eeriness of being deep in a dripping lock or the exhilaration of pounding to windward in a fresh northern sea, the sails taunt and the rigging humming. Or a quiet sail across the bay at midnight - the only sound is the ripple of the bow wave, and flashing light houses and harbour lights thirty miles away to the south, watching a green meteor with a smoke trail streak overhead. Sorry to go on, but I've been there, nothing on land comes close. Good luck with your boat Mark and Nadiyana. When you get to a quiet anchorage it will be your own private little cottage on the water.
PS love the new boat. She is going to make a wonderful home
Thanks, mate!
You are inspiring me
To plan my transition to
Retirement 10 years earlier than previously planned
When you paint the deck do not bother with additives. Go to a pet shop & get some bird sand. This is a very fine dry sand. Get a fine flour sieve & sprinkle it over the wet paint. Then when it is dry very gently sweep off any that has not stuck. You should not have to put copious amounts on. Practice sprinkling on to a piece of ply first as you will find that you need to keep the sieve moving quite quick if you get too much. Then apply second coat of paint over the deck. You might be clever enough to do it by hand but it gets a bit uneven if you are a bit careless. DO NOT try mixing the sand in the paint first.
You will get a supper grippy finish. I did this on the deck of my wooden yacht when I re decked it & it was grippy enough for another coat of paint 3 years later when I was doing the tidying up of all the boat painting. Some Hawian sailboarders use sugar instead of sand on their boards in the same way but that is for their bare feet & I have never tried it .But they use the same sort of method.
Sugar will dissolve out over time in the areas that get most wear. Sand will not.
@@delukxy I am not suggesting that they use sugar I was pointing out that a few sailboard manufacturers have used a similar system
My father used to sprinkle baking soda using a sieve onto the last wet coat of paint then when dry, wash it out. That way, when sanding to recoat, there’s no additive (sand, etc) to clog the sandpaper, plus it’s cheaply available. Test on scrap first to get texture correct for your use.
In my opinion this is a bad idea. The surface will act as sandpaper en will not be kind to bare feet and knees. There are far better solutions.
@@bgt7874 Depends how much sand you put on. More on sloping surfaces by the mast, for instance. the top coat takes the sharpness out of the sand particles. There are deck additives( like micro round balls) but these - in my experience- are pretty useless.
My father painted his decks with a waterbased road marking/ pavement paint. Cheap as chips and solid as. Really good non slip.
You get a 'like' from me every time. Whats not to like. I think you two are doing a great job and producing a great show.
"we've not been as happy as we are now for a long time" - that should be the title of this video! Brings me joy to see so much good progress and fun you're having
I recently re-did my trimaran's deck and after talking to a painting store owner i used enamel outside decking paint almost more than half the price of '' marine decking paint '' and it's been on for a year now and i have not had any issues but surface preparation is the key to any painting i even rang the companies help line and the people there told me the only difference between marine and house hold was the price and the label good luck and BTW you guys are amazing a true inspiration to all cheers from South Australia
What fun! Lots of work ahead for you both... grabs popcorn, looking forward to this
Work proceeding apace, awesome having all those tools! Keep the faith sailors.
love that little Dingy what a score well done
Hey just noticed you've got Expedition Evans following you... All the best with your new boat
cool! cheers ;)
@Mark Archer they seem very nice too, Godspeed Wildlings!
Great to see the light in your eyes! Go, just do it ..... 💥🤛🏽💯
i love these boat project videos. can’t wait to see you guys sail this beautiful boat to Greece for some well deserved sunshine and relaxation.
The old fashioned way to do deck paint is to sand well, paint the deck with a good enamel then tape off the areas you don’t want non skid and paint the area you do, while it is wet sprinkle it with crushed walnut shells ( which you use to be able to get at the chandlery for cheap). When the paint dries brush off the excess grit and put a coat of paint on the whole deck. Looks neat and professional at a very good price. Sand works too but walnut shellscare lighter and easier on bare feet. Lots of luck!
Hey kids!! Good job with the incurable romantic project!
Working refrigerator! I share your joy. And the bathroom sink works! Please, don't remove it. 😎
Awesome accomplishment!!!! The important part, your making it your own. You two are such an inspiration. Never giving up on your dreams!!! ⛵️
These time are some of the best time of your life enjoy them remember them. Good job.
You’re both doing truly amazing and following your dreams
thank you for sharing your dreams with me and all
forever I wish you both
and all safe sailing
Painting = prepping. The very best paint in the world cannot cover a bad surface. Even worse, painting over problems will let the problem re-surface later, and likely worse than it was at the time you painted. Prepping the surface to be painted is critical to good adhesion. If there is loose debris, oils (even body oils from finger prints) will later reflect in bubbles, paint coming off, etc. So, right before you paint, throughly clean. Other posts have said 95% prep - absolutely agree.
Now the fun begins..!!!
love watching boat projects, I dream of buying a boat and sailing round the world one day
Exciting to imagine what the interior is going to look like when the deconstruction ends and the new look is installed.
Probably too late for most of where you need it... but anyone else doing a tear-down job like this, where you want to actually use remnants of the structure: get away from the jigsaw!!! Go and grab the circular saw first, then use the jigsaw for where the circular saw couldn't reach. The circular saw leaves way straighter edges then a jigsaw can.
And while the use of the planer was very innovative - a belt-sander would probably be a better choice to get these edges straight
Circular saw makes much straighter cuts, for sure
Ahhhhh
@@WildlingSailing I would recommend either a corded or cordless for when underway or not on shorepower. A large home improvement chain brand is fine, but at least 18v.
I'm going to enjoy watching you guys redo the cat. Stay with jellcoat on your fiberglass surfaces. Nothing else will last.
Wow some great goodies left in that boat.
For paints International Perfection 2 Part Poly Topcoat is fantastic, applied with mohair rollers no need to tip it off and looks better than sprayed, A channel to get advice is BoatworksToday for paints, antiskids and fibreglass works being american the paints arent easily available but International marine is it for us...(I think Mads of Sail Life used it on Athena)..Just remember lots of preparation and cleaning before any paint touches a brush....
P.S. Little tip when cutting veneered or faced wood score the pencil marks with a stanley knife/boxcutter/scalpel it will prevent the saw blade tearing/splintering the finish
P.S. Little tip when cutting veneered or faced wood score the pencil marks with a stanley knife/boxcutter/scalpel it will prevent the saw blade tearing/splintering the finish
Caution before using international perfection or any other 2 part paint, it should only be applied over 2 part primers or under coats other wise it will melt the paint under it and fail. It's a fantastic product and its what I used but it is one of the most expensive options.
🥰 cannot wait to see the end result!!!!
Living the dream.
I once asked a boat builder why he used a handsaw so much in the modern age of jig saws. He told me it was because they can be controlled better and cut straight lines.
Whatever experience you may lack you make up for in drive. Things are coming along just fine. I think trying to complete, or at least getting one area serviceable at a time is a good is
Dea.
⛵️Oh my goodness, you are both soo clever! I love watching your vids & can’t wait for Fridays to come around! I love & admire you both for following your dreams, taking risks & living life to the full! ⛵️Thank you again for such entertaining & interesting viewing ❤️ loads & loads of love 🌈💫Momma💫🌈
For 11k, you got that Cat for a steal. I tried looking at a Cat originally and I couldn't find one for that price here on the West Coast of the US.
My only warning: don't lose motivation. You're taking on a serious project, and more often than not what causes a boat to die is someone giving up mid-refit. Push through, and you'll have many years of happy sailing.
In Seattle, but closest to this I could find was a Cat on the East Coast (converted to power only) for 14,500. Should go to France to the cheap boatyard.
Thank you for another great video ! It is a joy to see a young loving couple take on a big adventure !!!
Good work Wildings 💪
An evening with the wildlings!! Xx
Xx😁
Thank you so much for replying it makes my wife’s day she thinks you two are so cool and as we are in our late forties to be cool is really something👍❤️
Ah you're joking, mate! Thanks for all your support from very early on in our adventure too
As long as the hull is sound then that is a fine deal. I paid way more for my Gemini 105M and it didn't come with updated electronics or a big box of tools. My engine and drive did run but was so neglected that I swapped it for a Yamaha T25 extra long leg outboard. It will be interesting to see you go through all the systems particularly the engine and hydraulics.
Great show guys!! You're the Mr and Mrs Bean of the sailing world, please take that as a compliment. "Carry on sailing"...big thumbs up!!
Hahaha
A Cheap possible cure for seasickness: Get a pair of orange soft foam earplugs. Put one away for safekeeping. If your left-handed, put the earplug into your right ear. If you're right-handed put it into your left ear. Make sure to seat the earplug deeply into the ear snuggly.. Always sit on the lower side of the boat when underway and always face the direction of travel.
Dear Windlings sorry about my previous comment, im sometimes very ignorant.
I trust you made the good choice, and are competent enough to refit her to your dreamboat!
I really did not mean annything with it, just my (ignorant) mind farts, i hope i did not put you down, go strong! Youre both awesome!
One other thing mate, if you stick the end of that plastic pipe in a cup of boiling water, wait till it is soft, slip it on the hard pipe and tighten up the jubilee clip they won’t leak. Good luck guys.
Or the heat gun they already have.
Thank you! You have just helped me with a bathroom sink leak!
Remember on a large boat we all have a workshop ON BOARD. This is SO wonderful, nice having projects I even made things and sold them in port. Can you imagine having a work shop with a VISE- wow, get out of Dodge😎 Behind sink that wall would look compleat with epoxy coat.
Looking good guys and don’t worry about costs, you can’t put a price on your happiness and peace of mind 👍
nice one!
I enjoy your sense of humour, both of you
The main thing is true happiness to find it or to achieve it by hard work... I have faith you both will achieve happiness thru hard working an well thought out decisions.. I am excited for the future... Just seeing a real smile on both of ur faces is brilliant!! ✌🏻💗😊❣️
With a positive attitude like you both have this project will be successful. For the investment you really cannot lose. Keep moving forward!
Your “realness” and quirkiness are appealing. We enjoy watching you deal with your difficulties. Remember, Thayer your pain is for our pleasure
Another inspirational episode, enjoyed the plumbing problem solving, well done both! The Wildlings are becoming our regular Saturday evening viewing. 👍 Keep on swimming!
Rare boat have not seen another ketch cat on UA-cam, In USA often preferred paint is Awlgrip, some use cheap paint with regrets
I agree, but first buy a small amount of the expensive paint and first do a test for optimal adhesion to the old paint, also the quality of the substrate must be good.
Everything works, only cleaning and ready to go 🤙
It is nice to see the entire Cat being refitted.. From the scratch!! Bravo... Takes real guts and patience..
All right....so fine, ha've got me hooked now have'nt ya. Nothing to be done for it, so all the best like ---Mick McCoy
Well done...keep truck’n...steady she goes...
Hi Cat People, Lovely to see you have so much fun doing good things to the cat. Reducing that overbearing furnishing must make it feel better. It is a heavy cat anyway, but I get the feeling you are reducing a noticeable amount of weight in the interior fitting.
Hi Justin. It was certainly looking like a maze, great for hide and seek but terrible feng shui :D I doubt it will make too much difference on a cat this fat
I'm happy that you r both happy , you will learn to !love her...
My wife just said that you look like Wesley, aka "The Dread Pirate Roberts", from Princess Bride. I think she may be right. 🦜
hahaa, its not the first time someones has said that, but ill take that anyday! :D
Oh yeah! 😁
I think he looks like a young David Bowie too😂
Omg he does
thanks for posting you all are so happy in a mess!!
Looking much better already.
Nice bit of Markgyvering on the oven hinges! Its amazing how much boat emerged from behind those massive cabinets.
Fascinating going back to the very beginning of the refit. You did a great job re-modelling the galley area, well done!
Well done, and enjoy
Pleased to hear that the two of you are happy in your work, long may that continue (the happiness not the work). This has likely already been suggested but doubling up on ALL of the jubilee clips is sound practice. Best wishes, Steve.
You guys are refitting an entire cat and I can't even be bothered to tidy my house
hahaa, I (Mark) couldnt either, the cat was the kick up the arse I needed
@@WildlingSailing Hmmmm makes me think. Maybe I should just throw all my worries and doubts to the wind and just buy a boat already. After watching a few of your videos I am definitely subscribing and can't wait to see more
Nice one Ellis. I keep boats really tidy, but the house..... not so good.
Love the positive attitudes and enthusiasm!!
Nice to see your getting stuck in , will not be long till it feels like home , its not till you have a boat that you wish you took more interest in woodwork lessons at school ,be great to see it when finished , is nice you have the last owners tool left for you , so I hope you do him proud as I expect he would love to see his boat given the love he had for it.
