Guys, PLEASE have that cooker tested by a qualified gas engineer for CO levels and get a CO alarm as well. I just fitted a new cooker to Moon Shadow and found the grill giving off over 1400 ppm CO - 800ppm is fatal in two hours! :-0

So do I - in fact I had exactly the same thoughts as the Op here: about two years back a young couple were lost on a boat over a weekend. CO poisoning and poor ventilation were the culprits. The CO alarm is a must, if you don’t have one.
Usually the seals on your stove at the taps need replacing if you can smell gas. The back flexible connection hose needs to be gas standard as does the value cox. And you should inspect the stove pipework at the joins for leaks.
A little bit of soapy water on the joins when they are under pressure will show up gas leaks but having a gas professional inspect it is preferable. A standby flexible gas hose can be found on a barbecue if the boat has one.
You both have great energy and make a great team. Lots to watch!! All the best.

Here's a tip for any more bulkhead or vertical or overhead work.
1 Mix a very small amount of epoxy, (small batches best).
    2. warm the wood with a hair dryer or heat gun,,,
    3. warm the epoxy the same, this will get rid of mixing bubbles and make it like water.
    4. Brush this on thin and flash over quickly with hair dryer.
    5. So far you have put a thin mix on that has been encouraged to soak into the wood. This is the most important step for bonding done.
    6. Now the easy bit.
    7. Get some polythene sheet a good few inches wider than your tabbing strips.
    8. Mix a small batch epoxy.
    9. Paint a thin coat onto your plastic strips.
    10. Lay matting onto your prewetted plastic strip and stipple it with brush to soak out.
    11. Do this a couple of times so you have your layers now sitting on your plastic strip.
    12. Ok so far you've just made a large band aid plaster and done it on a workbench counter top.
    13. Your prewetted wood and hull should now be tacky, but even wet is o.k.
    14. Pick up your plastic sheet band aid and place into position, suction will keep it in place.
    15. using a credit card, plastic dough scraper, or flexible metal scraper smooth your band aid into position working from middle to outer edges smooth on and remove any excess epoxy that squeezes out from under your polythene sheet band aid.
    16. Use some duct tape etc to pin a few places of the plastic sheet ( you don't need to do this because suction should be keeping it tight on).
    17. Come back next day, peel off the plastic sheet strip and admire the lovely smooth grp job you have done with minimal sanding left to do and looking sooo neat and professional.
    👍👍😊😊👍👍

Chopped fiberglass strands do not go together with epoxy. Only polyester will dissolve the "glue" that keeps the mat from falling apart.
With epoxy you can only use woven material.
That's why the laminate is looking so bad.
For structural purpose I strongly recommend polyester.
And yes , I am a polyester addict.
Keep up the good work ! Stay safe (Covid & your propane installation).

A pro tip from an American Plumber if you are putting teflon tape on in a tight space you can wrap the teflon onto the end of a pencil and then unwrap from the pencil onto the threads of the pipe! Also you should always try to have good mechanical joints on any gas lines like compression but flared connections are what are most commonly used here in the U.S. they offer a solid brass on brass connection.

Please use standard dishwashing soap, put in small plastic water with tiny bit of water, shake well should be megabubblefoam. Press it along all hinges and that „watershutoffswitch“ if you see it bubbles it leaks, if it doesnt bubble its tight.

That gas situation is a little too sketchy for my taste. I hope you sprayed it all down with soapy water when you were finished to check for leaks. Also if you don't show your failures you can't be told how to fix them, or at least how to avoid failing again. Never be ashamed of not knowing something, be ashamed of not knowing something and not being willing to learn.

Need to remember that gas is heavier than air and will settle and accumulate gradually in the bilges if there are any leaks, however minor. This can build up and eventually cause an explosion or fire. Critically important to install a good gas detector and to check regularly. I used to pump out the bilge and once any water had gone carried on to pump out any contaminated air/gas accumulations. I’ve seen three fires on boats caused by gas over the years including one that was fatal. Not nice. Take great care. Use screwed pipe fittings with olives rather than flexible pipe and jubilee clips and always check using soapy water.

A lot of comments on the gas, many of which are sage.
This is serious, as are the fumes, etc I mentioned, especially given it's a confined space with limited ventilation.
You two are smart, capable and proactive, so all these safety issues can be readily addressed.

Im also concerned with gas fitting. When connecting gas pipelines and their fittings to a stove, grill or other connection, it is important to use Teflon tape designed for gas connections and not Teflon tape designed for water pipes. ... Teflon tape seals the gas fittings' threads and keeps leaks from developing. Its yellow to quickly identify the correct tape.

    • @Bantie1
      @Bantie1 3 роки тому

that's correct, I asked my son if he used tape after refilling the propane tanks when he reconnected them, he did not and I saw him grab the white tape for plumbing> No!!! I gave him the yellow tape for gas pipes instead! That is VERY important.

Tip for the dust....shop vac and duct tape. Tape the hose either to the tool or close to the area you are working. It will not get all the dust but it will catch quite a bit. Thanks for the videos guys...you are a lot of fun to watch! Good luck!
