This is a huge milestone!!! Well done on everything you’ve done so far (and everyone else who helps you both) I’m blown away by the progress every time. Absolutely love watching you guys working on Sarinda. Always the highlight of my week. 😊😊😊
You guys are inspirational. Your fg work looks great!
The smiles on both your faces once the 1st section of boards says it’s all been worth it
You have not been “trying” - you’ve been DOING IT! 😀 You’re a quite a couple! Congrats and thank you.
You must be so happy that the first parts of the deck have been fitted. Many thanks for taking us on this journey to restore Sarinda back to glory!!!
What a moment. The deck is starting to happen. At some point, when you're not so tired, it will sink in and I doubt the smile will disappear all day.
That orbital sander dance -- beautiful !!
That was me in white T-shirt watching from the shore today, love ur progress on that lovely old boat, great work👍👍👏👏👌 so good to see her coming back together, well in both of you👍
Engineers work to the nearest thousand of an inch, joiners work to the nearest 16th of an inch but boat builders work to the best looking solution. But the next boat will be better!
I’ve watched since the very first episode, to see you get to this point I must say I felt a bit emotional! God knows how I’ll feel when we see her finally move!! You guys are epic! Well done Gemma and Simon
I'm overjoyed to see your progress. You both work so hard. It's amazing what you've accomplished so far. Thank you for taking us along.
Sarinda's locker takes a good decking. It's the best I got this week, I'm afraid.
" .... I'm not afraid of heights! ... , it's the depths that really scare me! ... "
Wow the deck looks amazing
For a couple seconds there I thought Simon was going to go for a good tumble, right off the bow of the boat. He wouldn't of be laughing if he did that's for sure ...It's looking bloody well great.
You need to patent orbital sander air hockey. Make a fortune off that!
Dont be too hard on yourselves doing the fibreglass, we are all learning alongside you as well! The smiles on both of your faces at the end are very well earned! Great job guys!!
Scorcher? 26 degrees? That's 79 deg F for Americans. A nice spring day!! 😅😅
You two are OUTSTANDING, on your deck. Well done. So exciting!!
Yay...its a deck! I just absolutely adore you guys. Been watching since you first got your beautiful boat...or ship, as she rightfully is. Can't wait (well, LOL, I have to wait, obviously) to see her done.
Lmao , the crashed with the broom 😂. You definitely live a dangerous life Simon ! Congratulations on the new deck , soon sipping on tea on deck chairs 😊
love the varnished beams with the white roof, a few items in brass eventually, your will never wont to leave her. you made me laugh with the broom joke, I'm waiting for Simeon to say, one day ,get to the winch wench, lol
I have been watching you guys for a while now. It gave me great joy to see you get that deck on. Looking fantastic guys!
Brilliant the deck has started!!! Just wondering when the sun roof is being delivered.🤣🤣🤣
You know i've not been subbed for very long, only a few episodes, but i grinned from ear to ear when you got that first piece of deck on, that must have been such a good feeling for the both of you 😀 i think what you're doing is very admirable, you're restoring a little piece of history and you're making it a labour of love too, think i'll be here for a while 🙂
Sarinda gets glassed is not as good as last week when she was topless. 🤣🤣I bet it feels odd walking around on deck and not having that sinking feeling.
Great update 2x👍
Australian here..26C HAA HAA. Thats a nice day here, true. 40C, now thats a scorcher.
How about using that spray on epoxy in the chain locker.
What a day a deck has appeared. Rain, you are now denied. 🎉
This is how Hang Gliding got it's start ! Wind + plywood = Up, Up, And Away !!!!
Congratulations ❤ she’s starting to look like a proper princess now ❤ well done it looks great…
@9:30…. Measure “The Stem of Gem”😂😂
Just watching you working with fiberglass is the closest I ever want to be to doing it myself ever again. It's horrible to work with and I admire your fortitude!
You two would be right at home at Harland & Wolff. Love the shots of Sarinda that you posted an the end of the video. She has such lovely lines, and will soon return to her former glory!
Your planning and hard work are paying great dividends. It's looking 👌 Keep up the good work.
Deck deck deck 🎶Deck deck deck 🎶 deck on boogie , deck on boogie 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶.
Nice job guys, cheers 😉
I am so excited for Sarinda! This is so wonderful! Pat yourselves on the back!❤❤❤
The only fiber glassing I did on Lazy Days refit was to make a two drip trays to fit under the twin engines to keep the bilges clean, these worked great.
I would suggest you fit a drip strip under the ply sheets in the excess 100mm. to prevent rain water wicking it's way under the sheet, until you properly seal them to the outside hull timbers.
The white underside looks great against the varnished beams, well done.
Can't you use the block you use to drill up through the deck ply, turned the opposite way with a long drill steel through the already drilled hole to get the angle.
Thanks for posting.
CONGRATULATIONS. CONGRATULATIONS CONGRATULATIONS. YOU DESERVE A GOOD REWARD. ALL I SEND YOU IS CONGRATULATIONS. PETER T Mid Wales. UK.
Deck looks great! Fiberglass is fine also. Practice makes perfect with glass work. Looking good keep up the good work. Someday she will look similar to those pic's you posted at the end. Beautiful!
@14:45 Gemma’s “yeah” ….. right there with ya babe. What a moment. You two are awesome.
Congrats on getting some of the deck laid. That's quite the achievement. I love the way you guys just roll with the punches and do what you can do.
the first time i mixed 500ml fiberglass resin, it burnt the crap out of the container and set in about a minute, certainly is an art . frank from down under
What a pair of grafters, huge congrats 👏🎉 on achieving this milestone 😊
Many thanks
It'll look great when done. You'll be faring the 'glass work, sanding that smooth and then putting a layer of gelcoat on it, probably, so it'll look great when done. Keep up the great work, guys!!
Simon if it were me I would do 1 of 3 things on those stanchions,
1 would be to use a tin of grey spray paint up the rectangle holes from underneath which would give exact dimensions for hole, then using a drill press with the correct angle using a square mortise bit to give holes in plywood, or 2 would be to find or make a square mortise bit long enough to reach up the holes from underneath, which allowing for available space may not be possible, or 3 line the hole from above with something like small tacks so when you lay the ply down you can see the hole imprint, you would then have to allow a few mm's for the position of the tacks, then using a square mortise bit cut the hole at the correct angle which should be no problem for a drill press with a movable angle base, best wishes Darren
You made me laugh several times with the homing sander and the crashed broomstick.
I think it looks amazing, I was as happy as you guys when the deck boards went down for the first time😅, have to say yous are firing throw this build, and doing a sterling job, love the videos❤️👍😂
Congrats, big step!
I love watching you guys work together. It does however crack me up to hear you Brit’s talk about a scorcher at 26C. Here in Southern California people wear long Pants and sweaters in that weather.
Very rarely will you find ANY boat, shed or wood framed building square after 80 years. So there shouldn't be any surprises there.😊
Fantastic episode again.Every week is another milestone and marina is really showing major progress all down too you two wonderful people and you put a massive smile on my face because you are so funny ❤
Well done Baldi and Gem great work and fantastic video, I have a couple of T shirts like that Simon. An a couple of Oldi ones , bet you’re both chuffed the first stage of the decks complete, great team , G
Great job Simon and Gemma, that's a great accomplishment getting the deck glassed. I'm looking forward to the next episode.
Great trick wit The Sander.
It must be deck your boat time 😎
Deck yer boat time!!!
Currently stood on our breast hook that we made last year……..LAST YEAR!!! 😂😂 by god, that went quick, thanks for the entertainment and here’s to next year and the hover engine fitting.
Use can of spray paint to spray up stanchion holes to leave pattern under deck
That's an awesome deck great job
I would try to make a hole as big possible and then square up the hole. Good job guys real hard work just by you two.😊
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaw Looking good guys. Simon love the Baldi t-ee shirt.
Hi Simon and Gemma, I can’t believe how good that deck looks you’ve done a fantastic job I’m So proud of you. Love and appreciate you guys from Australia
Thank you so much 🤗
I struggle a bit with your accents but I greatly admire your tenacity, committment and your great skills
By gosh, you two are the most adorable boat-building couple on UA-cam. Brupeg being a very close second.
And Sailing UMA…….
Hi Simon and Gemma, I can’t believe how many boats there is in half of them look like they’ve been abandoned. Totally amazing. Anyway keep up the good work always enjoy the videos from Australia the thunder down under
Bravi finalmente si vede il ponte ( DEK) complimenti buon lavoro
Spent many hours riding in a 565 my Dad used to drive in the school holidays
G'day Crew,
Cool episode guys , great to see the deck taking shape . Also loved the new knife ,Jem seemed happy with it too.
Sorry about the SCORCHING HOT DAY ,
but here in OZ 24 / 26 is a beautiful day , we call 46 / 50 a scorcher.
One more , Simon's second pronunciation of stanchion was right , as to be staunch or strong .
That's what the Navy call them ,
but both terms do get used .
However , I was wrong once before ,so a dictionary or thesaurus might be standard practice in this instance .
Look forward to the next vid.
Respect....!
What!!!!!!! 26c is perfect work weather
Great work! Must be nice to have part of your deck ready to go!
Congratulations on getting started on decking. I guess 26 C is warm by UK standards, but here in Kentucky it’s been 35 C every day for a month!
That looks very nice...if I ever get a boat you two can fibreglass it any day.
For the stanchion holes, could you use a mortising chisel/drill? It should allow you to follow the profile of the side and get square corners.
For the holes for the bulwarks, cut some kingspan insulation and feed it through the existing holes the cut the end of it at the same angle as the deck when it comes through (before you fit ply).
Cut and fit the ply then dip the end of the cut kingspan and dip it in wet paint, feed it through the holes and it’ll mark the under side of the ply exactly when you need to cut the holes out. Bit of a slow process but it’ll definitely work.
Good on you and nicely done. To give yourselves more pot life to the epoxy keep the ingredients refrigerated till you mix them
Good work it becomes a very nice deck 👌👌
All your hard work is paying off nicely. Another step closer. Well done, you two x
She looks better and better every week. You guys are really hard workers and should be proud of yourselves…
Great to see the deck going on. It's looking brill you two.👍
Use bulldog clips on the fibreglass to add some weight to the edge. If you need more weight add fishing weights to the clamp arms.
What you could try is supergluing finish nails (pointy side up) into each corner of the stanchions hole and put the plywood down. It will mark the corners underneath the plywood. You just have to make sure the nails stickup the same amount. Then you could take the nails out with some pliers.
I remember watching in horror when you first started in the bow locker area. Handfuls of rotten wood were being pulled out and me thinking, "surely this boat has past its restoration date".
Having said that, I thought much the same when watching Leo struggling on his own, manhandling half a ton of boat keel! How wrong I was, I salute you all for sharing your adventures with us!
That razor blade is awesome that turns into a scraper that is a pretty nifty little tool
nice work - -love it when a plan comes together - what a team! - well done.
Another milestone. Visible progress is always encouraging. Your enthusiasm is more than impressive.
RE the stantion holes - I'd try cutting them roughly undersize from the holes you're already drilling, then grab a cheap wood saw and your angle grinder. cut a thin section out of the saw , about 12mm wide, something like a foot long with the teeth down one side. remove the teeth from the top 4 inches or so, and make a handle to fit that section. Leave the next 2 inches or so of teeth, that will actually do the cutting. then remove the teeth below that, to form a non cutting guide that will follow the holes "below deck". And saw away! I've often used hacksaw blades and a holder for the same kind of thing.
What you should do with a porous surface like ply is to pre-treat it with resin using a 10% acetone mix. This will sink into the ply and give you a good basis to apply the fibreglass.
Excellent , Fiberglass your deck time. Can I suggest the De Walt jigsaw as you already have the battery's and they are a great piece of kit. We had one in our Tool store before I retired and it was the most borrowed tool at the weekends. Some guys would 'Forget' to bring it back on Monday. Easy blade change and a lever underneath to adjust the base plate angle. Another thing that might be worth a look is the Trend Corner chisel. Its a right angle chisel for making nice square holes in doors for locks etc.
Fan-bloody-tastic
You have done wonders with that boat and i have had experience with comercial fibre glassing and you are doing it "right" . I cant wait to see Sarinda completely rejuvenated 🙂
For us uninitiated people who have NEVER done any form of fiberglassing... what is the reason for the plastic sheet you put on top of the glass mesh ??
Is it SIMPLY to give the resin a smooth finish ?
Or is it used for some other purposes also ??
CONGRATULATIONS ON THIS MILESTONE!! 😊
Amazing. All these years in the making. I honestly hadn't realized it had been that long since you did the roof and the breasthook.
26c is a scorcher of a day? That's just a nice winters day here in Australia. A scorcher here is 46c - 47c, and hotter if you go a little inland.
Funny how things like that change as you move around the globe.
Well, enjoy your mild summer as we climb out of our winter with around 20c each day.
Anyway, keep up the good work and all the best with the boat restoration and the rain. From Western Australia. :)
Amazing, you work so,so hard.😊❤
Thank you so much 😀
Get a router bit extension for the router then make an angle jig for the router base and that should make it easier to cut the stension holes
Wow! - a long day!
Ooh she is looking good
Super well done guys - its looking great and a water tight deck at last! Well that bit is!
Maybe a trim router with a tilting base for cutting the stanchion holes?
Its looking good well done i love watching you both bring the ship back to glory 😊
As an Australian it's rather amusing to see 26 degrees be considered as hot, 26 here is nigh on perfect, and I'd definitely fiberglass on such a day. Conversely our days are maxing out around 15 at the moment, and I'm holding off fiber-glassing on my boat because it's too cold!
Tip, get the other kind of roller that has like rings going around, rather than the kind that have slats going across, far easier to roll out the resin and you'll end up having to use less resin.
That's some kind of nice.
