Hey there - I'm the actor who played Charles Smith. It was nice to see these endings - I haven't played the game myself, so I appreciate it. I miss the gang. =)
@@ParaWiki Thank you very much! He's definitely one of my favorites.
Amazing job man, hunting with you was the best
I love the game, it has the best story in gaming history. Charles was one of my favourite characters. He had always something wise to say. You did a great job voicing him, it just felt great !!!
@@DutchPlanDerLinde I’m glad you enjoyed it!
This is so cool to see! Charles is a great character and you can feel his passion and emotion in each line. One of my favorite missions in the game involves going hunting with Charles and finding 2 men that were killing Bison for sport. I got chills from the anger in Charles’ voice when he confronts them. Thank you for your amazing work on this great game!
His tombstone should say “outta the damn way”.
'God Forgive This Boah'
How about "okay, catch you later then!"
Or I'll catch you later then

Charles was a real one from the beginning. One of the interactions between Arthur and Charles really stuck with me. It was the mission where you're going to scout Beaver Hollow. Arthur is sad/frustrated after a talk with Dutch and he walks up to Charles and says "Charles, will you ride with me?" and without even asking where to or what they were doing Charles says "Always." Charles and Arthur were the kind of friends that all of us want as well as the kind of friends we should be to others.
Yeah that were good buds, if they had been able to live a normal life I imagine they would've been really good friends, gone hunting and fishing together, that wouldve been nice, shame we don't get to see many happy interactions in the game :(
I love everything about charles to be honest, he's the type of guy who doesn't need to say anything, everyone who knows him already knows that he has your back.
@@spikey288 sometimes i wish this game had the interactions of gta 4 where you can take different friends out to go have fun at a bar or go bowling. imagine if we could do that but go fishing/ hunting with charles or get drunk in a bar AGAIN with lenny the possibilities man or just bringing someone along as a companion seemed like missed opportunity
@@Ronin.97 COMPANION ACTIVITIES
Yes! I played it two times and got stuck in my head, “always” without asking and without buts.
“You’re the best man i know among these fools” i recall Arthur saying.
Also, i don’t know if anybody has noticed this or not but, everytime Charles be sitting on fire in camp he calls for Arthur:
“Arthur sit down for while”
“You mind sitting with me?”
“Arthur sit here by the fire”
And of course, his condolences to Arthur’s sickness was the 2nd best after the nun.
“At least you know Arthur, you see the world clearly now and you can make things better. Hosea and the others didn’t get the chance to do so”.
God I’m so glad I went for high honor. I don’t think I would’ve been able to live with myself if Charles remembered Arthur poorly
I'm surprised no one really talks shit of Low honor Arthur (or as I like to call him Artie Loho)
TJ Knight and Micah would shoot you in the face as well
THE FISH 210404 but at least it’s because Micah knew Arthur was the better man
I honestly like the low honor ending, because "live by the gun, die by the gun." so i just keep my honor at a grey area, yet still have bad honor
Also want Lenny's last memories of Arthur to be good.
The first video game in my life where I legitimately felt *Grief* over the main protagonists passing. Ive been shocked, pissed, and outright confused at killing-offs before. But A.M. hit me man, I felt like I lost a part of myself. Truly Unique.
Hell yeah bro.
You didn't feel that way when John dies in the first one?
@@antoniov.258 Yep, I felt that way for John when I finished the first game. I literally felt exactly how the guy described lol
But I didn't warm to Arthur, his death didn't really bother me, plus I was siked as hell to get to play as John so I got over it fast lmao.

Sad thing is,
The ending where you help John get to safety is probably canon.
So Charles would’ve found Mrs Grimshaw.
But it would’ve taken a long time to actually find Arthur.
And yet he still looked for him, and buried him somewhere he would’ve loved.
And he made him an excellent tombstone with words that describe how Arthur really was.

V Charles is a tracker so it wouldn’t take him that long, just follow the bodies...

Always gotta have a Native American friend
His tombstone should've said "That could have gone smoother".

Was Charles there for that? Feels like he would've if he heard Arthur say that
Should have said: “OUTTA THE DAMN WAY”
“It stinks a coward right around here”
he had such a chip on his shoulder!
It must be weird for John to read through Arthur's journal and see how Arthur had been to witches coves, seen UFO's, found giants/ giants skeletons, saw ghosts, and gained acquired guns from the greatest gunslingers in the west including Otis Miller

the best part about Charles is that even though in a low honor run, and no matter how little Charles felt of you, he still gave Arthur a proper burial, and took time out of his life to even build a gravestone for him, Charles’s is a real one

Agreed, he was extremely loyal to Dutch and the gang, Lenny was one of my fav characters.
When Lenny died I exterminated those mf's like the goddamn pest control
That's partly what made RDR2 great, the harsh and unheroic deaths.
I kinda like when a main character dies like that. All the people we killed in our journey died with just some bullets, why one of us wouldn't too? I think it humanizes the character, and shows that we are just humans like everyone else. We all can die with just a bullet in our chest.

High and Low honor - Help John
High and Low honor - Go back for the money.

Vovó Aristides it just changes one line, they're both said on low and high low honour mentions how he stuck with john and high honour talks about how he went back for the money. I guess he did the good choice on the bad and the bad choice on the good to try and show this without mentioning it

There is though....
You must not have had 100%honor or something Cause i had and none of this happened.
Mine went like this:
Charles "he was a good man...as much as anyone of us could be"
John "getting sick like that has to rattle a feller"
Charles "rattle him or....give him some kind of understanding of what his life was really all about"
John "Yeah that makes sense"
Sad thing is, Abigail later died from an unknown cause only a few years after John's death, and Jack tracked down Edgar Ross and killed him to avenge Johns' death, Ross being a federal agent (even if retired) would likely spur a manhunt for the man who killed him effectively placing Jack on the run from the law much the same Arthur was in 1899 and his father was in 1911. What this all ultimately means is that there is no happy ending in this series, Arthur died in vain trying to give John and his family a normal life but John was never truly able to escape the reach of the corrupt law which ultimately lead to his own death 8 years after Arthur's , and Jack fueled by a thirst for vengeance (which is a fools game) hunted down and killed Edgar Ross, the man directly responsible for Johns death and effectively became an outlaw in his own right, finding himself right back at square one. It was all for absolutely nothing, every one who died, did so trying to save the un savable.

Charles is actually a very underrated character. I love him. He taught arthur how to hunt, he helped them many times, he also gave everything to save everybody and even helped the indians. He helped the gang escape Saint Denis. And he was shot first when he went to kill Micah
I don't think he's underrated; most people love Charles and recognize what he's done

I was so happy Charles and Sadie made it out alive. They were both my fave characters outside of Arthur. The whole game up to the end I had a bad feeling one of the two was gonna die. I was so pumped that neither did.
You probably won't see this but I just want to thank you, even though it's a spoiler for some, I accidentally saw something on a gmv video that (I thought) spoiled the ending but you just unspoiled it and I feel at ease
I was terrified the whole Epilogue because I played rdr1 first and figured that neither of them had plot protection on account of not being in that game, so if the game wanted to kill anyone off they would be the ones to go. So relived when they both survived though
They come pretty close, I got quite a scare on the way up the mountain to fight Micah because Sadie got stabbed and Charles was shot but they both made it in the end

Yeah, I wish it wasn't "go back for the money", and instead something along the lines of "go back for Dutch and Micah". I'm shocked anyone picked go back for the money on their first playthrough, it's obvious that Arthur isn't making it out alive and getting the money would be pointless if he's gonna die two minutes after. Charles is so underrated, the friendship he developed with Arthur from scouting potential camps to convincing him to help Rains Fall, I think, was far more deep than John and Arthur's were. It’s weird that John said he became a draftsman but in RDR1 he said he’s not into writing
An interest that most likely diminished over time for him. He probably took on writing to cope with the loss of Arthur. Journaling can be therupeutic in that way

I had High Honor and helped John escape. Never went back for the money since it would’ve seemed wrong to help John up to that point then go back for money.
Not really. Arthur distracts the pinkerton's in the forests which allows John to escape. Not to mention, Arthur goes out in a badass way. Killing lawmen and a knife battle with the rat.
What I basically did was that I decided to make Arthur have high honor and then make John have low honor later on so that I could balance out the experience, I went for the money as Arthur to make it seem like John was a bad person all along and make it seem like Arthur realized that all along but still respected him at the end of the day. Also because you get to give Micah a scar on the eye.

I can't play the game without my PS4 getting ready to take off
Really? It wasn't that loud for me
clean your fans lol
@@blizzit1211 if only you told me that a year ago when I still had my ps4

You missed a quote. My High Honour Arthur never went back for the money, so where is that one?
at the beginning, combined with the low honor version
@@meloo So High Honour no money = the first half of the Low Honour clip + the second half of the High Honour clip?
My Honorable Arthur stuck with Marston also.
@@GreatNinjaman same
my Arthur was a baddie w low honor but I still went with john lol
I remember when Arthur started to get sick I had a flash back of that poor man coughing into Arthurs mouth then I understood Arthur perfectly to me he was trying to be the man dutch wanted him to be and for that he scarficed his redemption in favor to free John and his family. I went from low honour to high honour and did my best to lead by example to save John from Arthurs fate of losing himself to the outlaw nature he had become. It resonates well with John's story in red dead 1 and makes John's death all the more powerful because just like Arthur he couldn't run forever but he sure as hell could lead by example to Shape jacks future. It almost ironic to think but I think John's death represents his redemption he was free to die guns blazing knowing he did he's very best to insure the safety of his family.
*imma go cry now lol*
@@nathanmcdonald610 you don't get a murder charge if it's a duel in red dead 1 at least.
I didnt rly care I just stayed low honor and kept robbing lol
if only javier was there to tell charles "hold up he said he wanted 'that could've gone smoother' on his grave"
Yeah
Notice:
Bad Arthur's grave have no flowers.
Good Arthur's grave has flowers.
The Arthur who helps a stranger who's been bitten by a rattlesnake, vs the Arthur who shoots a stranger who's been bitten by a rattlesnake
Get you a friend like Charles.
And more importantly...
Be a friend like Charles.
"I'm a bit of a draftsman myself nowadays"
lol okay John
Arthur Morgan has the best character development ever. He started as a regular outlaw who was not known to be kind, remember when the women said I didn't think you were this kind Arthur when he helped the man with his horse when they were on the way to Valentine. And he always got into fights. He was in many troubles but as the story progresses, you can see Arthur become good when you choose him to be good and he will begin to question his life. It was more powerful when he had the TB and he met the nun. It broke my heart when they met each other again in the train station.
There’s so much to do and discover in this game it’s overwhelming. I just started not too long ago and I love it.
That’s really cool I didn’t know the quote would change
"going back for the money" actually means going back for micah and dutch
arthur even says so
he wanted to take their money and confront them
and with high honor you get to take his eye
I hope we play as Charles in the next one. “I’ve had to put too many of the ones I love into the ground”
I had tears in my eyes when Charles said Arthur was a good man. My playthrough was wit good honor.
Low honour is better
I started the game by playing Arthur as a really bad man and then I gave him redemption after Hosea's death, I think that's the best way to play the game(story wise). It would have been heartbreaking to hear Charles call Arthur a bad man (they were like brothers after all)
I love the thumbnail of Charles just angrily pointing his hand out
I like how the scenarios in the vid have to low honor with Arthur doing the selfless act in the end and the high honor with Arthur having done the selfish thing in the end. That's solid stuff right there.
Charles is a real friend, I think he was most morally sound of the gang
Am I the only one who stayed away from spoilers so bad that I didn’t even know Arthur was about to die so I went back for the money.
I thought the story was clearly past the tipping point and John's part was coming soon, plus the TB--I was honestly surprised he didn't die sooner
Charles what a good Booah. But seriously Charles and Javier are very underrated.
Wait didnt Athur wanted ' That should ahve gone smoother" on his gravestone. I remember him saying that once
Too bad Charles is not riding with Arthur during that mission so He don't know what Arthur want
Only Javier and John heard it
That was a joke though, like sarcasm, you know, close death encounter type of joke
I really appreciate all the work they put into this game. I still play the story and always end up finding a new mission I never played before and I just think it’s absolutely amazing how they did all of it.
Always liked how Charles was the moral compass of the group. He subtlety steers Arthur to no be the bad guy he thinks he is.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.” Matthew 5:6
For they will be satisfied
Camille Varner is the other quote also from the bible
@@jefflowell6912 Yes. They're called the Beatitudes, there's eight of them. They're all in Matthew 5. Each grave quote is one of them.
Charles should've wrote "that could've gone smooter"
If you don’t go for the money there will be a different quote on his grave
What will it be
Yeah I swear my high honor arthur that stayed with john had a different quote
Penguin what was it?
@@NotLoZerish I cant remember I'll go to the gravesite today and if I remember I'll come back to this post and say what it is
I think it’s blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness
I actually hate seeing his name on a grave. It legitimately makes me sad. As if I were visiting a family member.
He was one of the only few people i trusted, alot of us really only trusted.
