  • The VisionQuest is a 50 mile ride in the Santa Ana Mountains hosted by The Warriors Society. The Warriors Society is a non-profit volunteer organization chartered with maintaining hiking and mountain biking trails in the Cleveland National Forest. This annual ride raises money for the organization and provides entrants a chance to test their endurance against the impressive Santa Ana mountain range.
This year's ride started at Blackstar Trailhead, went north to Sierra Peak, then double-backed south on Main Divide past Hagador and Pleasants Peaks. After several ups and downs on the Main Divide, the route dropped participants down their first main singletrack descent, the 2000 foot vertical Motorway (aka Maple Springs Trail), into Silverado Canyon. The second half of the route took riders up the mellow climb of Maple Springs Truck Trail, past Four Corners, around Modejska Peak and finally up and over Santiago Peak. Continuing south on Main Divide, the ride culminated with a nearly 30 minute descent down the heavily forested single track descent of Holy Jim trail.
This year, for the 49 miles and 9k of climbing, I averaged 8.4 mph with a moving time of 5:51:11 and just 9 minutes of stopped time. While this ride is not a race, its fun to push oneself against ones own limits; I think I pushed just the right amount as my legs were at the edge of cramping on the last flat ride to the finish.
If you would like to learn more about the Warrior's Society, support the organization by donating or coming to our trail work days, or participant in a future VisionQuest ride, please visit our website www.warriorsso... where you can donate and sign up for our mailing list.

@@darshahlu Nope. Well, sorta 😆 ... I rode past the group on an electric moto going up maple springs. Didn't realize the event was going on, apologies for the dust!

@@kevinberry4786 ah I think I remember someone on an electric bike. All motor vehicles were very careful in passing riders so thank you! 🙏

Wow, looks like it was a nice day for June, not too hot? We are in Idaho, I don’t know how you keep that pace up, congratulations, nice ride! Hey, did you get any ticks?

Not too hot. A high of 75 at most, but I started at 530am so I could be up and over the peak early before the high. Because 70 in the sun when you’re trying hard feels hot. I was descending HJ at 11am, so the timing worked out perfectly. No ticks! I faded with my pace on the second half of the route…just at the edge of cramping in the last flat ride back to camp. FYI I did Los Pinos on Sunday which was extremely grassy and bushy and also found no ticks… though I jumped in the creek fully clothed as soon as I got down, so I don’t know if there were bugs on me to be fair.

How have you never seen a rattler in your videos? I always see them when hiking

I’ve seen rattlers, tarantulas, foxes, deer, bunnies and more. Sometimes when recording too
